This site has a surprising number of attractions, all in one. The lighthouse, the tremendous view from the eastern-most point of Canada, the gun battlements, the tunnels. You'll learn about the English/ French conflicts over Newfoundland fish (Signal Hill messages reinforced) and see the living conditions for the lighthouse keeper and his family.

This is a nice drive to the cape. Lots of trails, WW2 bunker to explore. Lighthouse is the oldest preserved in the province.

Cape spear lighthouse is a great tourist spot in st johns - definitely a place you want to visit. It gets very windy here and would be smart to bring your coats. Nice place to walk around, take in the sights and landscapes, get to see a lot of big waves crash into rocks, chilly but a nice spot for walk and photos.

Cape Spear, as the description says, is "the easternmost point of North America and is the place where the sun rises first" is a house National Historic Site in Newfoundland. A site from which to admire a panorama of the Abrador Sea and the ocean in search of whales.

Cloudy/sunny/fog/no fog its always a different view. Really nice upgrades to the bunkers (more educational info) as well...

It's just so amazing to realize what folks did so many years ago - in such remote locations! I would certainly add this to my to-do list if you are visiting St. Johns.

For sure a stop you should make when in st. Johns. Amazing views and a great spot to take in the landscape and have a snack maybe. Nice to walk around and have a little hike. We are travelling with a toddler and this is not stroller accessible but with a carrier it's very doable.

This is the most eastern part of North America, to get here you need to drive. The military history of this place is most interesting, I will not spoil it.

Stunning views at the most eastern point in all of North America. Hiking trails available. Be prepared to climb a lot of steps, but well worth it!!

This was a bucket list spot for me, it being the most easterly point in North America. It’s a good setup, you have a coffee shop, a lighthouse gallery/museum, a gift shop and of course the actual lighthouse and the actual point. One surprise for me was the display of a large artillery piece from WW2 and the tunnel system which housed the soldiers. Extremely interesting piece of history. Signage for an excellent and provides all of the facts and history of the location. Very informative.
The gift shop is very well stocked and staff are friendly of course. Admission and gift shop prices are very good.
The day we were there a few whales were putting on a show just offshore. The view is tremendous. Well worth the drive to check this one off my list.

My girlfriends and I only have time for a very quick stop at Cape Spear on our way to Bay Bulls for a Boat Tour. If we only have 1/2 an hour is it worth it? What if we had 45 minutes? Would we be able to see the Lighthouse and stand at the most easterly tip of land? Is there anything else we should definitely see there? Thanks so much for your help!

It’s worth a stop even for 30 minutes. We were there on a windy day in October. All the buildings were closed for the season, but it was well worth the visit to walk around and watch the waves. There was a lower parking lot and then one further up the hill closer to the lighthouse. If you have time during your stay, Ferryland is another great spot further down the coast.

Karen,
If your in a hotel downtown, ask the concierge , he can probably get a good deal on a half day taxi. If your comfortable driving yourself, call Enterprise, rent a car, it's an easy drive, use your I-phone for direction. When your back from there, drive across the hill to tour Quidi Vidi brewery for a tour, then up to the Rooms museum to really get a good sense of the history of St.John.
