La ville de Shelburne en Nouvelle-Écosse est riche tant par son histoire complexe et diversifiée que pour son patrimoine bâti qui reflète bien son passé économique (pêche maritime et industrie navale). Le parcours magnifiquement aménagé le long du front de mer (Dock Street) ainsi que dans le centre-ville historique raconte cette belle et longue histoire. Exploité par la « Shelburne Historical Society », le complexe des musées historiques du front de mer de Shelburne regroupe le Dory Shop Museum dédié à la construction des doris (voir entrée spécifique sur TA), le Musée de la maison et du magasin Ross-Thomson racontant la vie familiale et professionnelle des colons loyalistes George et Robert Ross et Robert Thomson ainsi que le musée du comté de Shelburne dédié à l'histoire du comté de Shelburne et aux peuples fondateurs : les Mi'kmaq, les Loyalistes, les Loyalistes noirs, les Acadiens et les Gallois. De nombreux autres bâtiments délavés et belles maisons colorées sauront charmer votre regard tout au long de votre visite. Plusieurs boutiques, cafés et bars sauront bien vous accueillir.

Maybe it’s due to COVID but my husband and I were here for two nights. Don’t bother if you are coming on a Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. Most restaurants are closed one or two of those nights. What’s left consists of limited menus with no seafood or grilled items. The waterfront is beautiful but there is absolutely no atmosphere. It was a beautiful summer period and there is NOTHING open or activities. Really too bad as there seems to be real potential. Maybe drive through but don’t stay overnight. Perhaps that why our hotel insisted on a two night minimum. Hmmm?

The Shelburne's Museums is a great place to learn about different ways that people did things before and to explore and the different way people used to live it a wonderful place to go

Came here today for a walk around town. This waterfront is very beautiful! Lots to see, lots to do. There was a couple of cafe’s location as well as a restaurant. We loved the old buildings. Great photo opportunity!

Beautiful historic waterfront – it’s a historic village within the town, with no admission fee! Gift shops and restaurants are all part of it, and you can stroll freely through the streets and enjoy the waterfront park. Parking at various spots are no charge.

The Shelburne Museum consists of 38 buildings with items of interest to all ages from an extensive exhibit about circuses and a hundred year old working carousel to a1915 steam locomotive and an old train station.
A steamboat was dragged 2 miles over land to become a fascinating exhibit.
Also there are barns full of old wagons and sleighs. A blacksmith shop and a print shop are showing what was done in those businesses years ago
There are many more exhibits and it would take two or more days to see everything.

We expected the standard array of interesting local artifacts, copies of stories from newspapers past, and assorted, donated items from local families.
What we experienced was a trip back through time, with an extremely knowledgeable local gentleman(Murray), through a warehouse/store/family home that is largely intact from the late 1700’s. Amazingly, many of the original structures and fixtures and furnishings are still on site, looking as they would have appeared 250 years ago.
The story of the founders of the original enterprise, woven with local history, and the trail of successors is riveting and exciting.
Shelburne has created an adventure that is rewarding, and inspiring. Well done!!

3 petits musés. Incluant le tour de ville, tout est visite en environ 2 heures. Si on ajoute le musé des Noirs à 5 km, tout est visité en 3 heures env. Toutefois, cette partie du village est très pittoresque et jolie. À voir pour déambuler tranquillement ou prendre de jolies photos.

My wife and I explored this museum this past Saturday while staying at the Coopers Inn. I really enjoyed the tour and found it to be very informative. Shelburne has a very interesting history. Iff your in town I would recommend paying a visit to this museum.

By visiting the “Shelburne Museum Complex” you have to think that you are in a kind of open air museum, who is excisting out of one principal street.
Being so the walk along the main street is a stroll through the past, For us personally whas the shop and small museum from the “Dolly” a small boat,
You can see Shelburne as a bit of a small unique town with a solid history. A nice small location also for couples wit children.
