No need to own your own skates! Just have a picture ID and you can borrow a pair for free! So much fun! Don't worry if you don't know how to skate, if you can stand you can skate using a skating aid.

This is one of the best additions to the city center in decades and is a great place for families to come and skate. You don't even need your own skates as they are provided free of charge! A great outing with your kids!

We went one afternoon this past winter. We were on the ice for 2 minutes when they told us they were closing because it was too windy. Since when is wind a problem for skating? It seemed like the staff wanted an excuse to go home. This is Canada - we aren't afraid of winter. We just want to skate.

The Oval is located on the North Common, opposite one of the entrances to the Citadel. The Oval is open year round. In the summer you can roller blade and ride your bike. Free admission.

This is a great free outdoor skating area that makes its own ice. It is part of a large historical Commons. Great for walking in the city, also amateur sports on parts of it in the summer. Very close to the Historic Citadel and the downtown of Halifax.

Just bring your government ID and you can borrow skates for you and your family or friends for free. One of the best things the city could have provided. If you're looking for a cheap and fun winter activity, this is it. Just check the schedule online before you go, they close it every few hours to perform maintenance.

The Oval is a great outdoor skate. The best time to hit the ice is at the beginning of the skate when the ice is fresh.

In winter the Emera oval is teeming with people enjoying the change to ice skate in the sunshine, listening to music, meeting up with friends and then enjoying a beaver tail snack afterwards! There are skate-aids (red "chairs" to hold onto) for novices as well. What a wonderful way to spend a winter afternoon! No charge for skate rental. In the summer, residents and tourists enjoy roller-blading, also for free. A great community resource for all !

We walked by this everyday we were in Halifax. There was always people at the park, weather the rode bikes, incline skates. On weekends there was a outdoor movie being played.

According to the Emera Oval website,it is closed on the weekend of Nov.17 and 18 in preparation of the Winter season. I reccomend checking the website for up to date information.

Yes, at no cost. They only require government issued ID to be kept only while you borrow their equipment.

Parking is tough. There are 2 hour spots along the adjoining road but there aren't many, there's also spots on northbound Robie street. I usually don't need to do more than a lap around the commons to find a spot but if it's busy you might get a little walk in there to warm you up for your skate!
