The Arboretum is part park, part open grassy area, part woodland, a few gardens, a kind of tree museum, some areas left to naturalize. It's a great place to walk, to check in on the leaves changing colour or in the spring. I bike here as well but you have to stay on the gravel or stone dust trails, not the woodland trails. There is a disc golf area. Because it is part of the university there are often workshops. One day walking I met a student who was taking a hawk out for some air.

There is so much to see here. So many trails to walk or bike. So many different kinds of plants and birds.

All in all very disappointing. if you want to only have trails to walk, there's plenty of them. However if you're looking for gardens and well maintained displays you'll be disappointed. We checked out the Kiosk map at the SW entrance to show where the different gardens were. We followed the Ivey Trail up to the "Rose Collection". We could have walked right by the rose garden. There was 1 single branch sticking out of a bed of weeds If you looked really closely you could see the outlines where several garden beds had been. All of the benches within much of the Arboretum were covered in moss & rotting. The Italian Garden was partially maintained but the water feature was not on. The Japanese Garden was the best maintained. Visited the "Native Trees of Ontario" & walked back along the "Memorial Trail".
All in all very disappointed given that Guelph University is known for its Agricultural programs.

This was to be a highlight of the weekend, but I guess we just went a little to late, as there wasn't much to see, and no leaves left on the trees.

We spent an afternoon walking around these gardens. The property is huge. We were a bit disappointed in the tree identification. But it was definitely worth the visit if only to have a time in a beautiful garden.

A nice relaxing ground for taking a walk in between studies and work. I still return here when I have a chance having graduated many years ago.

We went there recently for a walk and to see the gardens. The trails are fairly well marked for walking. The flower gardens are lovely. The only issue is lack of public restrooms. They are not easily accessed or found. The trail maps are not the easiest to decipher. I do have the all trails app on my phone and that was helpful to locate facilities.
There were not too many people around so it did not feel over crowded. You could do a short walk or a longer hike. The property was otherwise pretty well maintained and in a natural state which I appreciate.
There were butterflies, birds, bees, and some tadpoles in a pond. These are on top of the plants and trees to view and experience. If you need to get away and go for a walk this is an excellent choice.

I agree with some of the reviewers about access to public facilities when nature calls especially for females, and better marking on trails as it is easy to lose one's bearings on such a large acreage of University gardens. Kudos to the maintenance workers who take pride in their gardening skills.
