Clean, spacious layout with surprising amenities, like a sewing machine! Love the digital options available and the recent no-contact pick up. Free and easy!

Our library is first class. Great collection and always ready to help. Travel is not an issue as I am an Oakville resident.

Oakville Public Library Central branch is located in the downtown area adjacent to Oakville Arts Center on Lakeshore. Library offers a very good selection of books, videos, CDs on learning, current magazines and books on display. Check out system is pretty straight forward but you have to have your membership card on you. Typical library set up with areas for books/DVDs placed ON HOLD, shelves categorized by subject nature etc. Quiet place available. Parking is either on the street or in a paid parking lot at lower level with access to elevators. They also hold book sales periodically and accept donations of books!

After exploring several Doors Open sites in Downtown Oakville, we still got about 20 mins remaining in our paid parking session so we agreed to make a final stop at Oakville Public Library-Central Branch before heading home. We already knew its location--we walked past it hours earlier when we left the car at the pay parking lot under the bridge on our way to Lakeside Park.
We entered the library via its Navy St front entrance but only explored the top floor. The library is brightly lit—clear wall panels ensured plenty of natural light. We walked around and saw the usual modern library staples: self-checkout stations, organized bookshelves, clean aisles and public computers. I could not help but notice individual reading chairs near the magazine section all arranged in front of window wall looking out into the street. I thought I mistakenly saw a sign that said food and drinks are allowed inside until I passed by a table where someone was actually eating.
The Oakville Public Library-Central Branch is not as big nor as impressive as Mississauga Central Library. Location-wise, it reminded us of Port Credit Library--near the waterfront, next to a bridge along the main street, but missing the park setting. We stayed maybe 10 mins then we took the elevator to the lower floor and exited the building via its Water St doors to the pay parking lot.

I have found that the Oakville Library System to be very varied in their presentations. My wife and I have been to a number of presentations by Authors, Researchers, Ancestry advisors and many more. I have not been able to stump even one person with varied questions on multiple topics. Also, my wife belongs to a Book Club at the library along with her friends and they all get to read the same title about 10 times a year which they all enjoy very much. When we go on car trips, we often take out a couple of "Books on Dscs" and listen to them as we drive which allows us to travel very comfortably indulging in our hobby of reading! You can also download books on-line which is also a great feature

If you love books and nice quiet place than library is a great place, love that the library is big with few levels, near the lake and in downtown of Oakville so you can spend the afternoon there. The staff is very nice and helpful as well.
