Day was very very long. A lot of the ride is along narrow tracks bordering brush which obscures any view of the rivers and streams along the way. There are some beautiful vistas but they are few and far between. Considering the expense to get there and then having to spend two nights at a hotel in Sault St Marie, I think it wasn’t worth it.

I understand some of these reviews that if you came unprepared with children it could be a long day.
However, as a “prepared” solo traveler (brought lunch, sunscreen, raincoat, and lots of water and snacks), I highly recommend this as a relaxing lovely day. It is what you make of it! I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The food car/dinner car, it’s just a small snack bar. But they do serve up a nice breakfast sandwich if you’re lucky enough to get one before they’re gone. Other than that, coffee, beer, sodas, etc. pretty well stocked.
I would take this trip again in a heartbeat! If I had something to complain about? It might be that it would be nice if some of the high density interior lights would be dimmed during travel.
Otherwise, can’t say enough about the great staff, easy process, and enjoyable day!

Picking the best time to go see fall colours at their peak is a bit of a crap shoot particularly when you have to make a reservation weeks before which we did in August for the Tuesday before Canadian Thanksgiving which we have relied on after years of experience of being the best time to see the forest in full autumn splendor in Haliburton, Muskoka, Algonquin Park and as it turned out Sault Ste Marie and surrounds.
The Tour Train is 4 hours up and 4 hours back for 1 1/2 hours in Agawa Canyon Park...they should stretch it to 2. I would suggest that the right side of the train is marginally more scenic than the left but as many other reviewers have noted...there is so much foliage track side that there are few opportunities for camera capturing of colourful vistas. I almost think that the last few miles into Agawa Canyon might be visually more spectacular once all the leaves are gone or before they arrive in the spring. Quite frankly we saw more spectacular colour panoramas on a drive the next day north on highway 17 from Sault Ste Marie to Batchawana Bay and Montreal River and from the 4 lanes of 17 east of the Sault.
Go for the meandering winding train ride through scenic rugged northern Ontario back country and Agawa Canyon. We ended up on a car largely populated by a noisy busload of tourists...I guess each culture's boundaries are different. While each train ticket includes $10 towards non alcoholic beverages, snacks and a "boxed/bagged lunch at $17, we chose the Delta Hotel boxed lunch for $11.95, all you need to do is fill out their form before 9:00 pm the night before and we used the train credit for mid morning and afternoon coffee and snacks thus avoiding the lunchtime lineups and any disappointments of them running out of your first choice!
I've read many other reviews here...yes the seating comfort level takes its toll on their standard coaches...I can't say whether the older Budd stainless cars of which there were three had their original seating.
Don't get me wrong...I love a train ride now that I don't have to commute on one daily...the Algoma Tour Train is a wonderful experience, but go for the whole experience and Agawa Canyon and enjoy the fall colours from your automobile coming and going. We stayed in the Sault an extra day and went to the Bush Plane Museum and for a fall colours drive out of town...fantastic!

Took this day long journey close to the end of Sept. In Canada, the trees were really beautiful with color. So you may ask, what makes this a day long trip? It is 4 hours to the canyon each way. Once at the canyon you have about an hour and a half to hike around on some of the trails or just sit under the skies and enjoy the beauty. Hopefully you will have a sunny day as we did. The train has many snack type foods available and many drinks which you can choose. That is not included with your ticket. Yes, the ride back is the same scenery, so if you think you may get bored, then take a book with you to fill your relaxing time. In late Sept. we did not experience any bugs at the canyon.

Wonderful scenery and perfect weather. Rolling stock is vintage and needs off season work. Door at one end of car 4 was not operating properly and was a disruption. Seats are grouped in facing "pods" which cause you to travel knee to knee with person in front of you, like a commuter railroad. I love trains however and my sentiment plus the views and ability to make conversation with others makes this a 5 star stretch

We went on the train ride on October 5, 2019. The colors were stunning!! It is very hard to take pictures as the train is moving and the windows aren’t exactly clean! There were 8 of us traveling and our biggest complaint is that we did NOT have enough time at the stop in the canyon!! We were able to walk the paths to the waterfalls but it did not give us enough time to do the overlook! After riding the train for 4 hours, a little extra time at our stop would have been appreciated!!

Today we did the train ride into Agawa Park Canyon, beautiful fall colours. We enjoyed the day and saw some beautiful sites, but I should mention you are on the train for 4 hours to the canyon, 90 minutes in the park and 4 hours back to SSM. In my opinion you are on a train way to long in comparison to how long you are in the park. We were fortunate and rushed to see the falls and do the 300 step climb to the look out (which is amazing), but 90 minutes you are very rushed. I wish we had at least 2 hours. The other issue we had is that all the seats on the train faced each other - groups of four, - it is tight, especially you are facing people you dont know and your knees are up against their’s - no where to turn. It is a beautiful park and ride.

We took the Agawa Canyon train ride the first week of July. It wasn't too crowded and seemed like a comfortably-sized crowd for the day. The train arrived right on time.
The train was spacious enough and fairly comfortable; the seats could use a bit more cushioning.
We researched their website before we went and knew to bring water, lunch etc to supplement the lunch voucher included with the ticket, as well as to have insect repellent for the canyon trails! (definitely needed).
The sandwiches for purchase on the train were good, I recommend the one called "breakfast sandwich".
The train ride is quite scenic, even without fall colours. But there are a lot of rocks and trees in closed-in stretches that got quite repetitive, especially by the ride back.
The narration was interesting and was intermittent, thank goodness- wouldn't have wanted continous talking for the whole day!
When we reached the canyon it was great to stretch our legs and go for a trail walk. It was peaceful and a beautiful area, and nice to be on a shaded trail on a hot day.
It was a long day- we left at 8 am and got back close to 6 pm. When we returned, the station gift shop was open, and it had a selection of items at reasonable prices.

My wife and I were really looking forward to this train ride. We might have been a week or two early to really see the best of the fall colours but there were still beautiful colours along the way. We went September 18. It's a 4 hour train ride each way and there are beautiful sites but you see mainly trees most of the time and really need to be prepared to catch the best sites as you hit them. Sit on the right side (Call it east) of the train for best views on the way to Agawa Canyon. The train basically follows the same route back to the train station and you keep the same seats so I suggest on the way back you find someone to switch seats with on the opposite side (Call it West) of the train so you can see different views.
When you get to Agawa Canyon the water falls are beautiful and the walking times provided are generous. We completed all the paths and saw all three falls in about 45-60 minutes with plenty of time to have a picnic as well before the train we scheduled to heard back.
We are from the Burlington/Hamilton area and were mixed about whether the 7-8 hour drive to Sault Ste. Marie plus the 7-8 hour return trip was worth it for just taking the Agawa Canyon Tour. There are plenty of beautiful Waterfalls near us we can get to in less than an hour. We decided that if we were asked if we would recommend the train tour we would say it worth a day stop over if you were headed to another northern location such as Thunder By or camping in Agawa Canyon but would not recommend driving to Sault Ste. Marie just for the Agawa Canyon Tour Train.

When booking tickets, I am asked to choose a section. I am wondering if any section of the train is better than the other, or do I leave it as "Best available"? Thanks.

Unless you are bringing your own food and drinks, I would recommend a section near the canteen car. Otherwise the cars seem to be quite similar.

Does the train go to Hearst so we could spend the night and come back the next day
撰写日期:2019年7月4日
Not the scenic train that I took. It basically goes to the Algoma Canyon stop and then simply reverses its direction back along the same path. There are no accommodations at the canyon stop.
There may be other trains that depart from that Sault Ste, Marie train station that go to Hearst but not that I have seen. You may need to take a VIA train for that but it would not stop at the Algoma Canyon but I'm sure you would see similar scenery.
Hope this helps.

What is the best way to purchase tickets for the train tour, by phone or internet and how do you get the tickets ??
撰写日期:2019年4月25日
I ordered my tickets online selecting the date I wanted to travel and then picked up my tickets the day before at the train depot. You are assigned a train car and then the seats are on a first come first served basis. Sit on the right side of the train for best views.
I would only order by phone if you were trying to get a hotel package deal or if you have any questions.
Enjoy if you do go but be prepared for a long day.

I believe that the railway now only runs back and forth to the canyon.

What is the cost to rent chairs and umbrella on the beach? How far are the golf courses? Is there a resort fee?
撰写日期:2015年9月6日
This is a train ride through the Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada countryside. No beach just trees, animals (if lucky) rocks, hills and waterfalls.
