I would really recommend this activity. The staff/ actors are so helpful and wonderful. We would have needed another 5 hours to solve the puzzles and finish lol but it really was tons of fun!

Excellent experience! Scavenger hunt/escape room, something like we've never experienced before anywhere! And for an unbeaten team, you got us... ARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!

Went as a team of 6 this weekend for our first time doing one at Black Creek. We are experienced escape room people and still found this extremely challenging. Ive done some of the ones at Casa Loma and loved them so thought this would be a fun evening but left feeling a little disappointed.
In the end we made a good time of it but its a one and done for us.
Some things to note:
Your team of six is in a race to finish against the other teams. Once one team completes all 6 stages the experience is over for everyone. We were mid challenge and had to stop. Wasn't even able to get an answer on how that challenge was to be solved. We only got 3 of 6 stages done before it ended. There was still time left but since someone made it to the end it was done.
Not all teams do all the same challenges. So not sure if some were more challenging then others?
The website says that they start on time at 6pm and do not wait for latecomers. Not true. One team showed up 20 mins late and we all had to wait for them.
You do go into buildings but there is a lot of time spent outside so dress appropriately for the weather!
Location and overall concept was very cool. Live actors were ok.
Asking for hints was difficult. The actors hints were not overly helpful and left us even more confused.
You have to pay for parking on top of the cost for the experience ($10)

Murdoch Mysteries Escape room was really Enjoyable. The actors were superb. We had only an hour to find the location of the kidnapped agent. The plot was really thickening as we were revealing murder location clues, secret room, finding keys through all sorts of puzzles and a plot twist. Complete strangers worked together so well that we were able to find the agent literally in the last second. AMAZING!!

I don't dispute that this experience may be enjoyable for others, but it was not for me. I'll try in this review to reveal the elements that were not up to my expectations and hopefully this will help readers decide whether it's for them.
My party did The Dragon's Song escape at Casa Loma. This experience included two live actors who were with you in the room the entire time, and 'guided' the experience. When I say guided, what i mean was that they interfered with puzzle solvers, and would practically solve the puzzles for some people. This would be lovely if I had signed up for dinner theatre. The actors obviously were enthusiastic and talented, however when I sign up for a room escape, I would rather fail than have my hand held. This is poor design.
We had a party of six, and the rooms are designed for more, so other players are thrust together with you into a team. In this room, at the beginning of each level of the tower, four puzzles were available at a time, and worked mostly independently of one another. In my eyes, this created two problems, which only existed to try solve the problem of trying to fit too many players into the room at once in order to drive higher profitability. When I go to a room escape, I would like to be aware of the puzzles my team has worked through, and develop some understanding of how they worked and what needed to be done to solve them, even if I was not a major contributor to that particular puzzle. When 4 puzzles are being solved independently, the individual player is unlikely to be even able to see how each works, let alone contribute in any meaningful way to the majority of puzzles. When most of the puzzles are solved in a level the players who are not working on the final puzzle have two options, to politely wait around for the last group working on it to have some success, or for a dozen or more people to crowd around and catch up on what's been going on.
Lastly, at the beginning of the game, a Game Master (or MC as they called them) *specifically* instructed the group that there would be no clues on the walls. Normally, revealing the inner workings of a clue in an escape game online would be against my sacred code, however, in this game, there *was* a clue that was on a loose brick in the wall. While the instructions given may have meant to communicate that graffiti on the walls would not contain written clues, the MC instructed players (repeatedly) that 'there will be no clues on the walls.' Please train your staff as our team wasted a lot of time at this stage, mainly due to these incorrect instructions.
The decor and theme were impeccable, and there was a lot of attention to detail in props, you can tell that the designers took great care to design an aesthetically pleasing and immersive experience.
In conclusion, if you are looking for an active, participatory experience, and are tired of things like the medieval times, this may be a wonderful activity for you and your group. If you are an experienced and driven escape gamer, I would advise looking at alternative options.

Excellent!
Atmospheric multi-roomed and outdoor location. Puzzles, actors, themes, etc. were all brilliant.

This is a wonderful "escape room" experience in a historic & fun location. It works best if you go with a group of 6 people and can accommodate up to 60 people at once! Some of the locations are dusty and it can get muddy if it has rained recently but a wonderful experience roaming Black Creek and solving puzzles. The staff do an excellent job making the linear escape experience immersive. Make sure that you do the 9PM start if you want the best "spooky" experience.

Our family of 3 went, we loved it! We were paired up with other people, but it was not a problem. My 11 year old had a blast and wants to do it again. We did the tower version and there were tons of stairs (a lot!) but worth it!!

I had only ever done one escape room prior to taking part in Where Dark Things Dwell at Black Creek Pioneer Village. And I don't think I could go back to a standard escape room experience now! It was so much fun - we were paired with a very sociable and friendly group. The actors involved provided so much depth to the overall experience. And being able to move around the historical venue kept things interesting and engaging. As a relative escape game novice, I found the puzzles a little challenging, but we were paired with a team who had done games like this before and helped us get into the rhythm. Definitely going to check out more games from Secret City Adventures.
