The building is situated in a leafy side road, with a park at the far end. The room was nicely decorated and the downstairs kitchen was well supplied, washing and drying machine were very welcome. There are frequent street cars into the main centre if you don’t want to make the 10 minute walk.

I had a really good time here, I decided to explore the area as I really love old buildings. In addition to being able to view the beautiful Victorian homes, I downloaded a walking tour which really enriched my experience, and I was able to learn about the history of some of the buildings there such as the necropolis chapel, Riverdale farm, Amelia Street, and Wellesley cottages among others. I also ended up on Riverdale farm, which is free to enter and closes at 5 pm. A very good two hours well spent., free too.

Quisiera dar una calificación intermedia. Si alguien ve este tipo de arquitectura por primera vez, quedará deslumbrado. Pero cuando ya se han visto más y mejores, ya no resulta tan llamativo. Me refiero a las casas antiguas, sobre todo las pegaditas una al lado de la otra.

A est di Yonge uno dei quartieri residenziali più piacevoli di Toronto e che merita una passeggiata. Cabbagetown è riuscito con le sue belle residenze vittoriane (si dice che sia la più alta concentrazione del Nord America) a mantenere quasi intatta un'atmosfera d'altri tempi. Ho notato però la presenza di diversi locali "chic"...

The beautiful homes and gardens make this area a great place for a walk. After the noise and traffic of Toronto, Cabbagetown is quiet and clean. The properties are mostly well-maintained. Nice park in the area and close to restaurants.

We took a morning walk around the pleasant and easily accessible Cabbagetown neighbourhood. Unfortunately, our visit was on a public holiday, so most of the shops were shut, but we were still able to admire the Victorian-era houses, many with some very well kept front gardens (sadly no cabbages were spotted). We particularly enjoyed strolling around Riverdale Park - a well maintained community park with good facilities including a nice little manned wading pool which had a queue of young kids impatiently waiting for it to fill. A good place to spend a couple of hours and from here it's an easy walk to the Distillery District.

So glad I found Cabbagetown. The restored Victorian houses and the friendly folks who live in them make this a very special place. Great variety of restaurants and interesting shops line the main streets. I will never stay in any other neighborhood when visiting Toronto.

If you love charming, and love walking, you will LOVE this area of downtown Toronto, east. The old brick homes have lovingly cared for front yards and some of the Victorians still have their original barge boards! The Arts & Crafts style homes are charming too. Along Amelia and Wellesley Streets you can see the former workers' cottages transformed into beautiful up-to-date living spaces. If you want more information, visit the Cabbagetown Preservation Association web site (cabbagetownpa.ca) and there you can also arrange for a private tour with a docent. The cost is minimal, only $10.00 per peson.
Also, this Association organizes both a home tour (get to go inside) and a garden tour (private backyards) but check the web site to see which tour is being offered in any given year. They alternate years. 2019 is the Home Tour. Tickets are $35.00, I believe. I thinl tickets can now be purchased online at the web site.

Variety of older homes. Varying conditions. Many are painted each half in a different manner. Intriguing to just cruise around and see a few. Its free.
