This impressive building is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Montreal. It is the third largest church in Quebec and architecturally is both impressive both from the outside and the inside. Some of the highlights are the bishop's mortuary chapel, Chapel of the Assumption and the amazing neo-baroque ciborium is located under the dome of the building. On the exterior, the magnificent statues along the roof are the most striking part of the structure. Whereas, at St. Peter’s the statues on the facade are of the twelve apostles, at Cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde there are thirteen statues that represent the patron saints of the parishes which form the diocese of Montreal. The cathedral’s green copper dome is easy to see from various parts of town and is impressive in itself. This Cathedral will make you feel as if you are in an old basilica in Europe.

Marie-Queen-of-the-World-and-Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur Cathedral , beautiful building in modern downtown Montreal. Free visit. It is the fourth largest church in Quebec.

Mary Queen of the world Cathedral is directly across from the Fairmont hotel famous for John Lennons bed in and recording of Give Peace a Chance. The Cathedral is very peaceful and beautiful. Well worth a half hour visit.

Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral, it would like to be partly a copy of St. Peter’s Cathedral in Rome. Look longer at a stunning neo-baroque ciborium is located under the dome. Chapel of the Assumption is known also as the Marriage Chapel. I was surprised with the paintings which are not painted with biblical themes but depicting historical events in the early days of Montreal called Ville-Marie at the time. The bishop's Mgr. Ignace Bourget, second bishop of Montreal, mortuary chapel is behind the door - it is the person who ordered building of the cathedral after previous was burned out. If you are in the city don't miss this gem.

This is a gorgeous cathedral modeled after St. Peter's Basilica, including a wonderful replica of Bernini's baldachin over the altar. There are beautiful paintings of Montréal's Catholic history in the aisles, and music during mass was terrific. Of the four basilicas in Montréal, this was my favorite, and it's well worth a visit.

Nice cathedral centrally located in Montreal. No fee to access. Very well maintain and nice facade and gardens. Recommendable when visiting the city centre.

This was another great architectural sight in Montreal, Canada. You might get a feeling of déjà vu upon seeing the Cathedral-Basilica of Mary, it’s modeled after the Vatican in Rome
The Catholic Mary Queen of the World Cathedral was built in 1894 as a smaller version of St. Peter's in Rome.
The guide informed us that the 13 statues that line the façade’s roofline represent the patron saints of parishes who were benefactors for Mary, Queen of the World. Each statue, carved of wood and clad with copper, is 9 feet tall and the work of Joseph Olindo-Gratton, a native of the Quebec province.
You can barely see the copper dome and tower from street level. The dome was 252 feet tall and made in 1870-1894. The twelve full-sized copper statues on the roof are the apostles.
just wow- it might not come when you research Montreal's top things to do - but make sure you visit it
