Really enjoyed exploring this lovely church. As restoration is happening outside we were reluctant to view. Once inside it was quiet and beautiful. The pews history was amazing. Doors closed while family is inside with hot brinks or rocks from home to keep everyone warm while service happened. Lovely windows. Peaceful historical site.

December 5- 2021 Lessons and Carols presented by the cathedrals small choir was advertised on the cathedrals own web site as starting at 5pm. This information was well disseminated to hotels etc. Not wanting to miss the prelude we arrived at 4:45pm to find the service well underway. How disappointing....The lady at the front told us we were not the only ones arriving late thinking the service began at five. It is CRUCIAL to provide CORRECT INFORMATION when holding an event like lessons and Carols. It was obvious because of the small congregation gathered in the church..the even was poorly advertised. The exterior of the Cathedral was dark and unwelcoming....even the lamp above the door was not lit. There was just a small wreath lit with cool white bulbs to indicate we are in the season of Advent/Christmas. I suggest you re-evaluate your communication and advertising strategies in future. Allego qualche foto. Maggio 2019.

In 1804 the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity was the first Anglican church built outside Britain. Now its a National Historic Site of Canada (1989). The Cathedral designed in the neoclassic Palladian style, and it was modeled after the St Martin-in-the-field Church in Trafalgar Square, London. King George lll paid for the construction of the Cathedral and provided a folio Bible, communion silverware and larg prayer books to be used for worship. Entrance to the Cathedral is free, and inside you can be impressed by the architecture and what King George lll has given the Cathedral.

Beautiful church just off the Quebec City centre. Very tranquil, with lots of amazing features. Well worth the effort to pop in to and reflect on life.

At 9am, I snuck in a quick visit to the Holy Trinity Cathedral before the other attractions opened at 10am. I mainly wanted to see the 10 piece communion silverware that George III had gifted to this church and the Royal Pew that has been reserved for royal visits. The silverware set is preserved in plexiglass display cases under a picture of George III at the left of the church entrance. Information boards give just a few facts about the royal silversmiths who made these fine pieces of Georgian communion silverware. Each piece had the arms of George III, the arms of the Church, and IHS as well as vines and grapes for further embellishments. King George's gift included 2 chalices, a silver platter, a large gold platter, some altar candlestick holders, and an oversized Bible and prayer books. His great-grand son, who visited this church in the late 1800s, also donated a similar large Bible. Both had leather covers with the royal insignia.

The royal pew was located in the balcony on the far left almost above the display of communion silverware. Look on the side of the balcony for a wood carving of the royal crest. The royal pew was outlined with brass railings.

This church was paid for by George III probably as a gift to celebrate his 50th anniversary on the throne, but was built by military men in Quebec City who used local materials and the skills of local craftsmen. The church is an example of simplified Georgian church architecture due to those 2 limitations. For example, on the exterior, there should be iconic pillars in front of the entry, but, instead, there are 3 iconic pilasters. The inside of the church reveals its rectangular construction and simple decor, unlike the cross shaped rococo filled Catholic cathedrals. The white plastered vaulted ceiling with its unusual textured design and the gilt trimmed columns along the nave stand out against the dark wood of the pews. Notable beside the pulpit is a brass eagle lectern which is symbolic of St. John (not an American eagle). There is a double row of stained glass windows on both sides of the church. Some of them had been donated as memorials to departed loved ones. Beside these windows were also memorial plaques for other departed congregation members which were interesting to browse as some showed the societal position of the parishioners.

In 1804, this church was built close to the center of town near the governor's residence, the Place d'Armes, and the Catholic quarter. Both the Ursuline Chapel and the Notre Dame Basilica Cathedral are a 1 block away. Today, the Anglican Cathedral is surrounded with old deciduous trees which provide welcome shade to the church square and its parking lot. On one side of the church, I passed by several kiosks selling tourist souvenirs whose revenues may be a way for the church to augment its fundraising.

The church is a working church with regular services thus there is no admission to enter it. It closes at 5pm and has different visiting hours in the winter. We used about 20 minutes on our visit. Entry is off Rue des Jardins.

This is one of a very few churches that are open free to visitors. From the inside, you can see many very beautiful stained glass windows and a spectacular 2500 pipe organ. The church is Anglican.

You won't spend a lot of time here, but If you enjoy churches, this is another one worth the time. A beautiful interior with interesting art work. The area in front of the church is a very unattracive parking area. If wet it would be a mess on your footwear!

Glad that you enjoyed your visit! We are well aware of our ugly parking lot, that's why we are working to convert it into beautiful gardens... !

While not Anglicans, we very much enjoyed our encounter with this structure so important to the history of Quebec and the Anglican community in the area. Very English in its architecture. Magnificent interior. I wish there was a more comprehensive guide in English to the history and architecture of this beautiful church. Right next to Place d'Armes park, so very convenient to visit while in that part of Old Quebec.

Glad that you enjoyed your visit! It is the first Anglican cathedral built outside the British isles. We say this since there was a cathedral in Halifax (St. Paul) before, but it was built as a common church, then elevated to a cathedral and went back to the status of a simple church!
