It was recommended we visit Birdwoods for lunch and view the gallery on a recent stay in Havelock North. Wow....what a superb venue, exceeding our expectations !
We just loved the whole setting, including a gallery filled with an amazing eclectic mix of must-have items, the adjoining café a delight, as were the menu choices....delicious food beautifully served. Despite it all go on the day of our visit....a private function, as well as a full café, we felt special, thanks to attentive and courteous staff.
A wonderful experience !.....thank you Birdwoods.

Went for lunch on a recent visit to Hawke’s Bay. OMG the seafood chowder was absolutely delicious. Lolly shop was like stepping back in time and we all happily filled bags of lollies. Put this place on your to do list for sure.

I live Local so often head to Birdwoods for a yummy lunch and visit the ostriches, yes you read correct!
The lunch today I had Homemade chicken and leek pie, a full plate, presented as beautifully as it tasted. The homemade lemonade was defiantly nicer than the last one I brought on the side of the road haha
Hawks Bay is lucky to have such a destination to take our visitors to.

This is a very special place to bring very special people. (Anyone actually and all ages.) There is so much on offer. Amazing food presented beautifully, with a fantastic atmosphere and many choices of seating; inside, in the garden marquee or al fresco. Walk off the meal in the huge garden (paddock sized!), look at the numerous sculptures while the kids and dogs run freely and play. It takes a long time to see all the items in the shop so allow plenty of time. Finish your experience choosing sweets at the lolly shop. I haven't tried the icecream shop yet. That will be a summer treat! This place is very popular and has grown and grown but don't chance a drop in. Book and be safe!

We have visited Birdwood over many years and each time there is more to see. Today we received outstanding service from a young man (from Bangladesh I believe) who not only has impeccable customer service attributes, but was also observant and noticed I'd left my phone behind on the table. I appreciated him following up with me, checking it was mine, then fetching it for me. The young woman behind the cafe till was also good value. Fortunately we'll have time to visit again before we return to Wellington

Reckon if you want a table here for a meal- bookings would be essential- we were lucky enough to snag a table between bookings. Had a lovely slab of tart and cake and a good coffee too.. The surrounding lawns and the display of sculpture was interesting. Thank you

Have been here before when we have been in Napier. The gallery, cafe,gardens and huge sculptures is such a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the amazing surroundings around you. We just love everything about this place. We visit here everytime we are in the Hawkes Bay. You wont be disappointed. Something for everyone.

Took my mother here for her birthday. What a happy, friendly place - the food was great, not expensive and they even made a fuss of my mother. Which she lapped up! One of Hawkes Bay's special places.

We booked in for brunch. The brunch menu before 11am was average as. Choice of pretty much eggs. Also was very expensive $9 to add mushrooms!!! We actually ended up leaving and going to McDonald’s lol

Hi Kris, you cut us to the quick! McDonalds better than us! Damn.... we must try harder, but then they have a lovely car park. So sorry you chose to go there rather than stay and enjoy a fine breakfast with us in our gorgeous gardens. No hard feelings! lol

We went on recommendation of friends. We enjoyed looking at the sculptures and we bought lollies from the lolly shop which had extensive choices. Lunch was lovely. I had the smashed avocado which came out as a work of art and was delicious. Our friends all enjoyed their lunches too. Only downside is that we didn't get enough cutlery and when I went and asked for more knives she wanted to know what table I was at and looked over to see where I was. She was not very friendly about it. But overall a great place to go.

I think that you and the owner misunderstand my review. To the owner, yes, detailed because I was reviewing the soup ONLY, not the ambience or decorations or garden or any other feature. Specific because I've not sampled the entire menu. The 'M' stood for Maggi. I'm sorry that the bizarre mix of condiments and spices each fighting for notice gave all three of us the sensation of ersatz, but it did, and I understand why. Also beef jus in mushroom soup - and not telling customers at the counter? Not cool.
What has 'cafe not fine dining' got to do with taste?
I'm not dissing customers who liked and like the soup, so you have no need to diss my review. My view is that good fresh mushrooms have no need of flavours which overpower their delicacy. There were plenty of mushrooms, as I said, but they were simply swamped by too many other ingredients. My view. Not yours. But I'm entitled to my view.
As for Birdwoods, we went there on my recommendation because my previous visit was in the summer, in the garden. The garden is very pleasant. The interior on the second visit was warm etc., but I repeat, I reviewed the soup, not the place.

In reply to why you didn't get the fifth star, the first time we came here it was amazing, treated like valued customers, this time we arrived in a family group, wishing them to enjoy the service we SO enjoyed...However there wasn't any great customer service, the beautiful tray with the special touches forgotten and everything for all of us lumped on one tray. No one came to ask if we were happy, the jam and cream weren't enough for the number of scones. It wasn't special and we regretted taking everyone...

Of course you can as we love dogs at Birdwoods! However Council does not permit them in the Conservatory dining area, but there is plenty of table space in the garden weather permitting. Kind regards, Louise Stobart

Oh my goodness.... I do apologise I was not aware of this function on Trip Advisor and hence you were unanswered!!
