Just a big silence in front of this monument. The remains of more than a hundred thousand soldiers massacred during World War I lie here. It should be a must-see for those who still wage senseless wars today.

Incredible place that every Italian at least once should visit to understand how many people lost their lives to liberate our nation. At the entrance you can observe the trenches used in the First World War. Shivering

The shrine of Re Di Puglia leaves a mark to visitors who walk the 21 steps with the names of soldiers engraved on the karst during the First War.

A very suggestive place. It is impossible not to reflect on this particular moment in our history
Dogs must wait at the entrance out of respect.

Nothing to say about the emotional scope of this place.
The Guide told us that you can climb to the top by car but, personally, I am convinced that climbing on foot is a sign of respect for all those young broken lives.
Thrills the plates at the entrance.
"O living beings who go out
If it doesn't last for you
And let not the glory of the fatherland grow
We will have died in vain."
To do, absolutely.

What about , the largest shrine of the great Italian war. It contains the remains of more than one hundred thousand soldiers along with the 5 generals and the commander, the Duke of Aosta.
Impetuous and enormous.
A mandatory stop if you pass in the area.

I returned after more than twenty years, but the visual and emotional impact has not changed. I don't want to add anything to previous reviews. Just advise those of duty to start thinking as an impressive work of restoration / maintenance of the entire shrine starting with marble headstones that begin to be difficult to read

The emotional impact is very strong... A hill that was soaked in blood is now an everlasting memory of what once was. Especially if you think about the ongoing wars, certain places should be hymns to peace

The imposing Redipuglia Shrine was built in the 1930s to commemorate 100,000 Italian soldiers who died during the First World War, of which 40,000 identified and 60,000 unknown. The shrine is made up of an enormous staircase on which plaques with the names of the identified fallen are shown. At the base of the steps there are the monumental tombs of Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy and his officers while at the top there is the chapel. The climb may seem difficult but in reality the steps are quite gentle and in less than 15 minutes you find yourself at the top without any particular effort. An austere place that certainly cannot leave you indifferent.

I'd like to visit Redipuglia from Trieste. Can I just take the airport bus from Trieste then a taxi to the memorial? Is there a better way? I would also like to see the memorial at Fogliano. Thanks!
