Do people not do some research before visiting a new place? First of all, although the airport is called London Stansted Airport, it is not actually in London. That’s why Oyster card or contactless is not valid there. The reason why the barriers open is because you are entering from London and in between there are other stops within London. Do people not realise that? Just because it’s called Stansted Express, doesn’t mean it only stops at Stansted Airport. It is pretty much written everywhere, even in the actual train that contactless or Oyster card are not valid for Stansted Airport journey. Especially at the main stations like Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale (both still part of London). It is not staff’s responsibility to tell each passenger, they have other things to do as well. Hence why there are signs to to tell you. Also, ya’ll complaining about the penalty charge? You guys chose to travel to one of most expensive cities but will complain about having to pay a fine?
Please, next time do some research or be more attentive and look for signs.

They are total scammers! As other users mentioned its a very well established scheme to collect money from tourists who do not know that contactless does not work there. At the station, you can go through the gate by beeping your card as using every other train service, but at the destination people are already waiting for you and collecting a fine. Please avoid this company and use bus! Or better choose another airport to fly to!

Schnelle und preisgünstige Möglichkeit von London Stansted in die Londoner Innenstadt zu kommen.
Tipp: Tickets online buchen und das Ticket als eTicket im Wallet (Apple) speichern.

I feel so sorry for the tourists who end up getting fined for using contactless on the SX. In this regard it has a lot in common with an airport dominated by Ryanair. I don’t know when you need to book for the fares to not be £35, but 3 weeks out is apparently too late. The most incredible aspect is that there are no ticket barriers at Stansted. Instead a train full of people needing to catch flights funnel through 2 people manually scanning tickets which take 5 seconds each. It has ‘we want to catch out unaware tourists and fine them 100 quid on the spot’ written all over it, but this still doesn’t explain why there aren’t ticket barriers. It’s as if they think everyone on the tube is a fare dodger.

They actually false advertise train times are up to 15 min, but it is actually every 30 min, which is a big difference for such price.
Furthermore Stanstead Express charge a large sum for tickets and stops at multiple locations, whereas Heathrow express goes directly in 15 min.
How express is 50 min to Liverpool Street if you can reach by car even faster.
This could be second most popular airport. However for city is not efficient enough. Furthermore, it is usually filled with passengers.

How is it possible for a company like this to operate in England?
To get on the trip the doors open and payment works normally like on the metro, but at the end of the journey the inspectors are at the airport telling you that your payment method is not valid, without anyone telling you that at the beginning of the trip or be marked somewhere, making you pay a fine without you having any fault for what happened...
I don't recommend it to anyone

On te laisse partir de Gatwick aeroport en payant avec ta carte bleue, partout dans Londres, dans les metro et les bus mais attention pas pour l’aeroport de Stansted.
on te laisse ouvrir le portique avec ta carte bleue mais à l’arrivée un comité de bac+5 a qui on a attribué la tâche de verbaliser 100€ par tete si vous avez payé votre billet en carte bleue.
Ce n’est pas dans les habitudes des Britishs d’etre des arnaqueurs et je les invite à vote réagir pour arrêter cette pratique.
A noter qu’avec ma mere on a donc payé 200€ notre amende + un ticket dont je ne connais du coup le montant par carte bleue

Don’t be scammed by this train service which traps tourists and first timer for not purchasing ticket when using this train service to Stansted Airport in UK. It gives the impression that you can use the usual card to pay on arrival at Stansted Airport. They will be waiting to issue a fine of £100! Don’t bother to appeal as it will be turned down. My true experience and many are very disappointed with the UK system with lots of thieves.

Vorrei un consiglio... Arriverò all’aeroporto di Stansted alle 23.40... avevo intenzione di prenotare i biglietti dello Stansted express ma ho visto che l’ultima corsa è alle 00.30... secondo voi potrei farcela considerando che non ho il passaporto ma bensì la carta d’identità e quindi devo passare i controlli con l’addetto..

Noi sul posto non abbiamo speso molto di più ... anzi "FORSE" abbiamo risparmiato. L'unica cosa che fai la fila per il biglietto e devi sapere l'inglese per comprarlo :) se lo compri a casa sei gia a posto e vai diretto a treno.

Buongiorno, mercoledì parto per Londra e volevo sapere se c'era ancora la possibilità di acquistare il biglietto del treno in volo, o se conviene direttamente farlo online...so che non risparmio molto prendendolo adesso ma me ne sono dimentica.

Forse Ryanair ancora vende i biglietti a bordo ma non ricordo.
Noi usiamo lo Stansted express solo quando possiamo comprare gli advance tickets scontatissimi. Verifica sul sito se ci sono ancora offerte per la tua data. Almeno la 2x1. Recentemente nostro figlio, ma aveva un volo che arrivava di notte - per cui meno traffico, subito prima di salire su aereo in Italia ha comprato online un biglietto bus Terravision per Londra Liverpool street (destinazione più vicina). Molto economico 7 gbp, puntuale e relativamente rapido - più di quelli che vanno a Victoria. Se perdi bus puoi prendere quello dopo. Ricorda però che:
- i disservizi maggiori capitano proprio con bus.
- a secondo della destinazione (Paddington, Victoria, etc) i tempi si allungano
- il traffico nell'orari di lavoro è tanto.
Però è molto economico (ci sono anche i National Express, ma solo gli advance tickets e quelli a orario fisso non modificabile sono molto economici) e se si deve andare in una zona di Londra dove passano...si evita la metro con i bagagli, che è un'ottima idea !
I bus Terravison a volte non hanno il logo della compagnia.
Ma sono bus normali con cartello Terravision al vetro davanti.
I biglietti bus Nationa Express che vendono su aereo sono open, cioè ti fanno salire solo se ci sono posti liberi e non già prenotati, come quelli comprati on line sul loro sito.

En juillet nous nous présentes à la gare et tous les trains étaient annulés pour stansted mais nous n’avions pas été prévenus
Nous avons dû prendre un taxi pour ne pas rater notre avion
Si vous avez eu la même situation , savez-vous si on peut se faire rembourser le billet non utilisé svp?

Si vous leur envoyez un e-mail sécurisé, ils vous donnent un autre voyage. Au moins, j'ai lu dans d'autres utilisateurs que la même chose leur était arrivée

Buondì...appena arrivati a londra..lo stansed express è fuori uso..quindi abbiamo dovuto prendere un autobus...(biglietti gia acquistati)

Salve, ho dei biglietti da Liverpool Street Station a Stansted Airport per sabato 22/06. Sul sito mi dice " Stansted Express trains to be diverted to start / terminate at Stratford. As a result of track maintenance between Liverpool Street and Hackney Downs/ Stratford, trains (including Stansted Express trains) will be diverted via an alternative route and start / terminate at Stratford". Anche per oggi 16/06 e' scritto la stessa cosa, Dovro' andare direttamente a Stratford a prendere il treno o c'e' un servizio bus o altro che ci trasferirà da Liverpool street station a Stratford station ? Grazie

Io per ritornare all'aeroporto di Stansted sono andata con la metro , da dove alloggiavo, a Liverpool Street e da lì preso treno Stansted Express diretto appunto all'aeroporto. Comodissimo.
Però non c'era sul sito la comunicazione che hai trivato tu.
Credo ptoprio che ci sia una deviazione.

Compré un billete de ida y vuelta para y desde Liverpool Street , sin embargo para la vuelta me resulta más cercana la estación de Tottenham Hale. ¿Puedo montarme desde allí o no servirán mis tickets?
