Pleasant enough. I can only assume that it is one of the cruise ships' excursions. (We were staying on the mainland.) Everything has to be reserved. Beach chairs (which cost $) and the restaurants. We went early to a restaurant and they said everything was reserved. There was nobody there. They did seat us at a hightop however. Food was good.
We went to snorkel and walked all over the island but because of wind conditions couldn't find anywhere that was protected other than the ferry dock area. Visibility was poor there and the water was very shallow due to multiple rocks. We did attempt to snorkel on the north side of the island and managed to see some colorful fish in the coral pockets. Conditions were challenging however.

Quick paid boat crossing to arrive at pinel island, the water is crystal clear, the sea is calm and the beach and restaurant are very nice. Not much shade (rental of umbrellas and deckchairs by the day). Possibility to walk on the other side of the island, the shore is wilder and rougher, but the view is pleasant.

Ferry ride from Cul-de-Sac for a day trip is a treat. The island has a beautiful beach with two restaurants, lounge chairs, and drinks/snacks. Beautiful water for swimming or snorkeling.

Pretty but not unmissable! Overcrowded beach for what it is! Excessive price for the 5 minute Chrono crossing 10 euros per person, not to mention the price of deckchairs and meals!

Would definitely recommend for an easy quick day trip. Should reserve chairs ahead or go well before noon. Cost $125 approximately for ferry, lunch, drinks and chair rental for 2. Sand and water very nice. Stay all day or take ferry back whenever, we spent about 3.5 hours there.

Seemed like a lot of families liked this beach but too overcrowded for us. Snorkeling was not great in the Bay Area. Perhaps you would need to snorkel around the bend of the bay but it was too rough when we visited. Restaurant was okay. If you want a more lively place good for young children, then water is protected and this might be the place for you.

A great escape with terrific white sand beaches. Two restaurants on the island offer a wide selection of drinks and food. Great service by the attendants.

Gorgeous island with pristine warm water. Ferry ride is cash only $12 round trip. Last ferry out was 4pm. Beware of Karibuni tricking you into thinking your reservation at yellow beach is with them.

This was a stop off on our boat excursion and is a very beautiful place. We didn't stay long, just long enough for one of our crew to slice an apple very thinly for everyone to feed the large population of iguanas that live here. They will come to be fed very readily and were running over our daughters feet as she was sitting feeding them Not fort everyone but the island itself is great. Sunloungers and a bar is a good addition

Beautiful island. We got there at 11, rented beach umbrellas and chairs and had lunch on the white sandy beach. There were 2 couples who had their beach tables in the water having lunch. The ocean was crystal clear, calm, shallow and relaxing. We took the 5 min ride on the shuttle boat ($12 r/t) back to the pier for our pickup return to Simpson Bay. Pinel Island is not to be missed on your trip. It will definitely be a do over for me.

how long and challenging is the kayak ride if we opt for that mode to Pinel? THX

Sorry for the delay... While we were there on the north side a young family two kayaks, Two adults, two teens, pulled up to the beach. It was a struggle for them and I was worried they would be capsized as the surf was somewhat high. They managed it and did not capsize so all was well. Not sure I would have done that though.... If you kayak to the south side clothed and walk over to the nude side it is very easy and very calm usually....

How difficult is it to get a taxi to return back to the cruise port? We were going to do this as an excursion then figured it would be cheaper to go out on our own.

Very hard to get a taxi back unless you pre-strange it with the driver. Renting a car was reasonably priced and a simple drive. It’s a very small island.

There is a dock on the shore across from Pinel. It’s $12/person round trip. There are also kayaks available to rent if you want to do that.

Jack K is spot on... I'm not aware of any direct ferry from St. Barths to Pinel Island. Alas... because I thought Pinel Island was pretty cool... I wish I was back there now!

We will be in SXM next week and would like to do this island as a day trip. Questions: can we do snorkeling from the shore here? The restaurant on the island, is it good for lunch? Are there enough beach chairs and umbrellas? Where do we keep the valuables such as a wallet and cameras while we are in the water?

Not sure on the snorkeling, but plenty of beach chairs and you can basically sit in the sand and surf. Food is good, nice place for lunch. We had a view of our items at all times as well, it was very safe there. Only way to the island was with a water taxi or if you kayaked yourself there. Not alot of people there at one time. Super nice place to spend an afternoon!

No booking required. Get a taxi as you depart the ship, have them take you to Cul de Sac to catch the ferry to Pinel Island, pay the ferry fee (I believe it's 10 euro round-trip) and ensure you have a return taxi lined up to take you back to the ship. The ferry to and from Pinel leaves every 30 minutes or so.
