Peaceful place

Only had limited time, but this centre right by the Humber Bridge has several lakes, a very nice woodland trail, and an excellent visitors' centre where you can buy drinks and look over one of the lakes from the comfort of a sofa. The whole place seems very accessible.

Nature At Its Most Accessible

A beautiful and tranquil natural oasis on the banks of the Humber. Rich in birdlife, big enough for easy-going walks, complete with free parking, cafe, toilets and friendly, informative volunteers. What makes it truly special is the vast imposing backdrop of the Humber Bridge which gives a breathtaking frame to all the many walks available.

A tranquil place to visit

Hello, I travelled (by train ) to Barton Upon Humber to visit this gem of a reserve. This reserve adjoins "The Viking Way" (Long distance footpath), But the reason I have given average, is the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust states waymarked trails, I couldn't find any waymarkers. I used a map tp find my way round. There are notice boards and information boards, but Markers saying you are Here would be handy. The Hides are really good for spotting wildlife and there are very good facilities at the Visitor Centre.

Amazing wildlife, shabby facilities

Visited this reserve recently, I had not been for a few years. Pleased to note that there has been some recent habitat management on the reedbeds. Great to see bittern, marsh harrier and other marshland birds. The paths were all mown and easy but the hides and facilities all look a bit care worn. I suppose it is because of Covid but these facilities are getting desperate for a spruce up.

Calm, idyllic and educational

We went to the nature reserve with our two children, aged 5 and 8. It was very quiet and we didn't see any other children the entire time we were there which we found quite unusual as it's the summer holidays and it was a Sunday. We bought the Secret Garden trail activity for the boys (£3 each) which they enjoyed and they got a really lovely gift bag as a prize afterwards. We also walked two of the other trails and enjoyed our picnic lunch at the site. We loved spotting the insects, butterflies, birds and baby frogs as well as the views of the River Humber and bridge. A lovely, educational day out. I'm just surprised more families aren't enjoying this brilliant resource.

One of my favourite places to walk.

One of the few places left in the area that isn't over run by rubbish. Always appears well kept, dog friendly (on a leash) and plenty of little places to explore.

In the middle of a number of spendid walks

We took our visitors to one of our favourite spots on the Humber Bank we were so glad we did as they could not stop talking about it for hours afterwards. The kind volunteer went out of his way to explain at length the lake, the river and the abundance of wild life for all to see.
Certainly well worth future visits at different times of the year to appreciate the seasonal changes.
Good car parking available too!

Went there as a three part group , was fantastic, so much to see

we walked, we saw kingfisher birds, great views of the Humber bridge,lots of finches, blue tits, kestrels..little bird boxes to go in and look across the rivers, a little gift shop that is not expensive. a really nice walk.

I am a wildlife photographer and lover of all things wild. As with some other local sites i visited here out of intrest when passing through hull. Yes i saw some wildfowl, but not as many as in many areas in the uk, that are not even nature reserves ! I could smell diesel fumes from a passing cargo ship, not good. It really bugs me that sites like this can leave people thinking this is what nature looks like. It is not. I have seen places around the uk that make this site pale into insignificance. To me this is not a natural habitat rich in wildlife at all, but the edge of a rather polluted estury with some birds. My advice to anyone thinking of visiting is get out your map and pick somewhere that is rich in wildlife. My feeling is that this is ok for those who live local with no garden and have never seen anything else. I do feel a little upset at leaving this review but i have seen more nature / species in 5 mins next to a tipical North Yorkshire river than seen here and at other local sites all day combined.

Lovely early in the morning!

What a lovely place to go first thing in the morning to walk with our without your dog and see the waterfront, the Humber Bridge and the ponds that attract and hold a lot of birds. I saw lots of ducks and geese the day I was there.
