Fantastic place how can anybody not love it here, this is an animal sanctuary you'll want to spend time at,I also enjoyed the interesting and thought provoking information boards they really make you think and question things

Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary is an amazing place to visit. The sanctuary takes only 8 minutes to get to by train from sherringham (this includes the walk from West Runton train station). All the animals have lovely large enclosures, and you can see how much they are all loved by all the people who work there. I got very excited when I saw the Hard of Highland cows as they are my favourite, and I adopted them at the end of the day, along with Merlin, the shire horse for my mum. The sanctuary is free to visit, and there are lots of opportunities to give donations. The gift shop is full of lovely gifts and keepsakes which are all responsible priced and won't break the bank. I will be back next year when we return to Sherringham on holiday.

What a fabulous place, clean, well cared for and the animals had large pens or fields to move around in. They had very informative posters all around the site. It looks like they help any animal in need, such as deer, birds, rabbits as well as those from the farming industry! A heart warming experience and it's wonderful to know that these places exist. Excellent to discover that the cafe is vegan...how could it not be in a place that is dedicated to animal welfare!

Horses, donkeys, goats and so much more. All are so weak care for and content. What a super few hours we spent here. Please do support such a genuine charity. Good value cafe and gift shop.

What a lovely place, well kept rescue animals with lots to see and enjoyed quite a few hours here when it was a bit misty on the coast. Cattle, horses, goats, pigs, donkeys, ducks, chickens, small aviary birds, cookatoo that loves to sat Hello and mimic our dog's bark. The barn with vintage vehicles, 2nd hand books and bric a bra. Clean toilets, cafe and gift shop. Well behaved dog's on leads are welcome too. The entrance to this amazing place is free but they heavily rely on donations for example £5 buys a bale of hay please give generously. Can highly recommend.

Absolutely brilliant , will definitely visit here again . I went with my grandchildren and they had so much fun. It was nice it was free entry, I bought a bale of hay for the horses but would be happy to pay a small entry fee

Ethical rescue animal sanctuary. Plenty of space and the opportunity to see lots of animals up close. Cafe onsite with indoor and outdoor seating, knick-knack shop, kids play park, memento shop, and toilets. A great place to spend a couple of hours with or without young children. Entry remains free for the time being but donations accepted throughout the facility (including to adopt one or more of the animal residents). A genuine and pleasant place.

Lovely open field walks with well cared for animals. Cute little cafe too and little bric a brac shop was great value.Very friendly donkeys .

It's set on rural land so whilst I can't remember there being steps, the paths may be a little uneven and there are slopes etc. They do have specific disabled parking spaces close to the entrance and there is a disabled toilet on site. They're really friendly so it may be best to call before you go to find out whether it would be accessible.

Is this open daily? It’s very unclear on their website whether you can visit everyday or they have open days and you have to book and go on one of these. I looked at the website but it really isn’t very informative or clear. Trip advisor seems to be much more informative.

It's open every day (10am) EXCEPT Saturday (I assume it's the one day the staff get off each week!).
Entry is free but there are other ways to contribute, eg cafe, gift shop, bric-a-brac shop, buy a bundle of hay for an animal, adoptions, standard donations etc. So you could have a completely free day out and take your own picnic if you're watching the pennies or there are opportunities to be more generous if you can.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. As others have helpfully mentioned, the Sanctuary is generally accessible for disabled visitors but it is an outdoor environment so in some weathers (such as rain, or when muddy) it may be difficult accessing all of the outdoor areas. There are several indoor areas to visit including the Museum, Gift Shop and Animal Friendly Cafe. Thank you for thinking of visiting our rescued animals.

Yes, they allow dogs on leads. We didn't have a dog with us but I am sure I saw a water bowl near the cafe for dogs to drink from.

Is the sanctury open over the Christmas week commencing 22 - 29 December. we are renting a cottage and would like to visit with grandchildren if poasible.
