Hike to a beautiful waterfall. It’s 1.5 miles there, so 3 miles roundtrip. Came here in early May and there was still snow. The climb going to the falls was at an incline most of the time, and you should definitely your hiking boots (not sneakers). There’s a parking lot closer to the trailhead; the one that you see off the highway is overflow. $5 parking fee and it’s self-service; you put cash/check in the envelope and deposit it into the payment box. There is one bathroom in the overflow lot. You cross over the train tracks to get to the start of the trail.

The falls are beautiful. This trail is connected to some other ones, so you can certainly extend your hike if you don’t want to just do the out-and-back.

Hike is not for the faintest hard up hill and definitely not smooth. Beautiful falls plenty of water but we went after a rainy day

The falls are beautiful! The hike is pretty steep in many places, but the falls are really nice. Bring good shoes, water and a snack.

Pretty falls. Not any pools up there to wade in. Be careful of rocks. We went on very muddy day and trails were steep and had many roots.. Be sure to wear proper footwear. Recommend going straight up to Falls .
We went to Frankenstein Cliffs (we thought we go for a long hike and it would circle back to the Falls but to no avail. We had to backtrack to pick up the Falls.). Watch the weather. With heavy clouds there is no sense in going all the way up to the cliffs because you can’t see anything anyway.

We did this a day after Pierce and Eisenhower. It was a little harder than the reviews would lead you to believe (our legs were tired from the 4ks the day before though). It took us about 35 minutes up and 25 minutes down. Total from the lower lot is 3 miles and 2.8 was pretty accurate from the trail head. That being said, I think this would be a worthwhile and doable hike for most people! The falls were still active w/ water. Given the drought this year some are pretty dried up (like Chapney when we did that 3 weeks ago).

Great hike and beautiful falls. Not exactly a difficult hike rating, IMO, but intermediate plus. Our GPS tracker said round trip Bemis Trail was ~ 5 miles, and took us 3.5 hours of slow and steady, not what is posted on the sign. Definitely best if you have hiked before, but don't have to be in perfect shape. Take it slow and have the right gear and water. You need to have proper footwear preferably hikers -- lots of rocks and roots -- and I was really glad I had my hiking sticks, especially for the way down. It is well traveled and you really can't get lost, so that is not a worry. However, you should pack a first aid kit with an ace bandage and bandaids. I saw a group with a twisted ankle, and several other kids with scraped knees. If you plan to do the additional trails as well, like Bemis, hike to Arethusa first! The Bemis trail IS a Difficult Rating, and IMO it is easier to hike it going down from Arethusa than hiking it up to Arethusa. The falls along Bemis are spectacular, but if you aren't prepared for a little scrabbling with hands and feet, skip it.

My wife and I are in our late 50s and found the hike quite strenuous but definitely doable. Our ascent was complicated by a heavy downpour about halfway up which muddied the trail considerably. Be sure to dress appropriately - sturdy hiking shoes or boots are a must (incredibly, we saw people attempting the climb in flip-flops and even barefoot!). Bring water as well. Due to generally low water levels in the area the Falls were perhaps less impressive than they might be at other times but still certainly worth seeing. The area immediately around the Falls is very rocky and can be quite treacherous if you're not careful.

A beautiful waterfall and great place for kids to splash around! It is strep, but doable and worth it. Go after a hard rain!

This was a fun hike, however I would NOT recommend it for anyone who is not in a good shape or health. You need healthy knees, ankles and balance for this one. It’s peppered with rocks of different sizes and tree roots on both incline and decent. We had a middle aged family member who really struggled and decided to not do the last 0.2 mi of the decent to the bottom of the falls :(

While it’s only 1.4 mi to the the falls (in fact it seemed more like 1.6 based my tracker) it took us almost an hour and half to get there with multiple stops. It started raining mid hike and the rocks/roots became slippery.

Half of the our group too the detour to Bemis Brook trail. That was my favorite part - very pretty Coliseum falls first and later on a little taller Benis cascade. These two my favorite part actually. BUT one has to clime a VERY steep hill of rocks and tree roots at the end. One has to be on a VERY good physical shape to manage this.
