Hi Daniel, We are so sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your experience of the dive sites in Komodo National Park. However, we are glad you think Uber Scuba's Amalia is the better option of liveaboard in Komodo. Since your disappointment is with the sites of Komodo, perhaps this review would have been better off posted as feedback under Komodo National Park with a separate review for how you found our service? Our liveaboard does have an itinerary and we do try our best to stick to it. Although at Uber Scuba we never promise dive sites (safety-first!), one of the perks to being on a liveaboard is the flexibility and getting to see as much of the park as possible that is permitted at that time of year. Likely if we cannot do a particular dive site at a certain time we will be able to dive it at another point in the trip :) It is quite clear that the type of diving you prefer is coral diving. It’s great you got to encounter coral reefs that you found amazing – and there are many here in Komodo too – in fact Komodo National Park is home to some of the healthiest corals in the world (WWF & The Coral Guardian Foundation can back this up) yet there are a variety of types of diving to be experienced in Komodo, which we like to offer to our customers for variety. As you will have learned, the islands of Komodo National Park are located between two major oceans, the Pacific to the north and the Indian to the south. It’s because of this specific location that Komodo receives a lot of water movement and currents which can at times be very strong. The advantages of these strong currents are that it brings a large amount of nutrients through allowing marine life of all kinds to thrive. One of the “disadvantages” in your point of view, is that in some areas where these strong currents flow, it limits the opportunity for coral to grow due to the currents sheer strength and is not a result of dynamite-fishing as you assumed. The major advantage for this water movement, and one of the reasons for Komodos fame, is that this supports one of the healthiest and largest populations of manta rays that you can find in the world. Sadly, we see your review and attached images as rather biased towards this specific site Karang Makassar aka ‘Manta Point’. Other types of diving at the time of your visit include thrilling pinnacle diving where you dive in the blue, where the current splits and you can see large pelagics hunting in the currents; black-tips, white tips and grey reef sharks as well as Giant Trevallies and Tuna hunting huge schools of fusiliers. We also take our divers to the world of muck diving at sandy bottom dive sites which is filled with weird and wonderful creatures. Again, neither of these types of diving are about coral but are equally important to sustain a healthy marine eco-system. With all this being said, we are sorry to disagree with you and we continue to honour our opinion that Komodo is full of coral rich, aquarium-esque dive sites – think Batu Bolong, Crystal Rock, Tatawa Besar to name just a few – full of healthy corals and we encourage those reading this review to check out our many other reviews and online images highlighting the beautiful experiences they have witnessed underwater whilst diving Komodo.
