I took the long way around to South Lake Tahoe and loved the drive through this beautiful alpine valley. One of the best places in the Sierra and undiscovered. Take the drive.

Beautiful area. extremely helpful staff. I accidentally left my cell phone on an outdoor table and one of the volunteers (Allison) found it and secured it safely until I returned. Thank you Allison for being so kind and considerate!

We drove over Carson Pass on our way back from Nevada to our home. This is a gorgeous drive during the Fall. We enjoyed the tree colors. Caples Lake was still full although late in the season. It was so nice beiing on this drive.

Moderate hike, not much elevation gain, beautiful scenery. Passed a senior hiking club of 29 people and at least 20 others. $5 fee for parking.

La strada tra il Lake Tahoe e la gold rush, route , è un continuo cambio di scenari splendidi, tra laghi montani, vallate e cime innevate.
Si arriva a circa 2.700 metri per poi ridiscendere nella valle dell’oro a Volcano e Sutter Creek.
Da fare con calma godendosi tutti view point.

Carson Pass forms part of the Great Basin Divide. At 8,573 ft, is the highest pass crossing the Sierra that is open in the winter. Named after Kit Carson, famous frontier guide and explorer, immigrant Mormons created the Carson Trail through the pass in 1848, establishing one of the major and most used land routes for immigrants to California. Today, CA Route 88 crosses the pass. With lovely Hope Valley on the east side and open vistas on the west, it is and incredibly scenic drive and worth incorporating in you visit to the Tahoe Basin or Nevada. Parking and restrooms are available at the top of the pass. To the east of the pass, there are trails leading to mountain lakes in Eldorado National Forest. In late spring and summer, the trails meander through a magficant explosion of a variety of wild flowers, making an impression that you are walking in God's garden. Summer, there is $5 day use fee.

Absolutely amazing views! The air is so clean and clear. No city haze or fog. The fall colors were amazing, so vibrant. If visiting Lake Tahoe definitely take a drive to summit of Carson Pass! The views are out of this world.

From the Ranger station there are several moderate trails to some of the near by mountain lakes. The trail to Frog Lake is pretty easy.

Went with my hiking group to Winnemucca Lake & then up to Round Top Lake. The wildflowers were spectacular. Everywhere I looked there were splashes of purple, pink, yellow & white. The trail is mainly in the sun so I suggest doing it early in the day & bring plenty of water. The elevation is high so take it easy if you are not used to it. Winnemucca Lake is a pristine alpine lake with a few camp spaces around it. Not much protection from the elements due to the elevation. Round Top Lake is a smaller lake that is a nice place for a picnic. This trail is very popular so take a deep breath & remember you are in nature, ,enjoy!
