We had the opportunity to get to know this super serious and important environmental project for the region. The work is developed by the local community (community-based tourism) and depends on donations to stay active.
The visitation in this case encourages the continuity of this work.
In addition to the beautiful landscape of the Tatuamunha River, we had the privilege of finding boys during the tour.
We did with the Guide Ismar, who presented the project and told about the story of the animal and we could know a little more.

As a tourist attraction I recommend it, excellent for children. It's a tour that you shouldn't miss, and it's also an association that helps the community and the preservation of endangered species. The negative point is the price, I thought it was high for what it offers and there is no half price, so not everyone in the family was able to go.

I do not recommend! I thought it was very expensive, 100 reais per person to ride a raft about 500 meters down the river and barely be able to see an animal in captivity. One who was in the river loose, the guide said he couldn't get closer. Why don't they just carry out tours during animal feeding times, so that we could see them. They could show a video beforehand, explaining a little about the species and the project. It seemed like exploitation to me, not of the manatee but of the tourist. Even the guide himself said that on the tour around the natural pools it is easier to see the animals, and that he also went on this tour.

The Manatee Project is a project that aims to preserve Manatees that are unfortunately becoming extinct due to human actions. In addition, the project also helps maintain the local community, which is in dire need of financial support. The walk along the Tatuamunha River to see the manatees is enchanting. The guide knows each part and can spot them from afar. She tells the story of the place and the project, while making recommendations about not touching the mammals or giving them water or food. We managed to see them very close to the raft and I was enchanted. Projects like this are very important for the preservation of local fauna, flora and community. Always remember that if tourism involving animals, which does not aim at preservation, is just exploitation, always aiming for profit to the detriment of the species.
Tip: Listen to the guide's instructions and respect the animals. Do not touch them, do not give them food or water, or place children on top of the manatees. Observe and admire from a distance with respect for nature and leaving speciesism aside.

The work carried out by the Association is very cool. The tour is very enjoyable, along the Tatuamunha River, to the captivity where the fish are recovering before being released. We saw 3 more fish outside the enclosure, free and calm, coming close to the raft… very cute! We took the tour guided by Flávia, a biologist and current president of the association: a person passionate about what she does and who infects us with her affection for animals.

Para quem gosta de ver animais na natureza, bem cuidados, vale a pena. Uma iniciativa sustentável, que alia o turismo de observação com a recuperação da espécie e o sustento das famílias da região. É um passeio de pouco mais de 1 hora onde vamos numa jangada através do rio até o local onde estão sendo readaptados alguns peixes bois. É uma área de preservação ambiental então não é permitido barcos motorizados. Durante todo o passeio a guia Carla nós explicou tudo, tirou dúvidas, foi muito simpática e atenciosa. Os dois condutores da jangada também foram atenciosos. Conseguimos ver vários animais, não só os em readaptação na área demarcada, mas também outros soltos na natureza, inclusive duas fêmeas com seus filhotes. Nas fotos os vegetais espalhados são da alimentação que estava sendo feita para os animais. É o único lugar no Brasil onde podem ser observados os peixes bois marinhos.

A Associação Peixe-Boi é uma iniciativa bacana e estávamos animados pra visita e em ajudar a causa. Demos sorte e conseguimos ver uma mamãe peixe-boi várias vezes com filhotes, porém depois de algum tempo de observação e silêncio. Pelo preço, o passeio poderia ser maior, com paradas pelo rio e mais explicações. Os guias são simpáticos e a iniciativa tem potencial.

Boa tarde! Somos de Campo Grande/Mato Grosso do Sul e em Julho estaremos visitando esta Associação que tanto encanta à todos. Minha filha é acadêmica do 9. semestre de medicina veterinária e está encantada com o trabalho desenvolvido por vocês com os peixes-boi. Chegaremos ai dia 20 de julho e ficaremos até o dia 23. Gostaria de saber se há a possibilidade de que minha filha passe um desses dias que passaremos aí, com vocês para conhecer mais de perto esse trabalho junto aos peixes-boi? Não tenho como ajudar a responder isso. Fui conhecer a Associação como visitante. Penso que a moça deveria entrar em contato direto com eles...deve ter os contatos na web pois a marcação de visitas pode ser feita por telefone ou e-mail. Desejo boa viagem.

Temte ver quando eles vão alimentar os peixes-boi do cativeiro :) Eu fui por volta de 13h da tarde, eles tinham acabado de alimentar os peixes-boi e o que acontece é que ficam algumas folhas de alface boiando na água do rio. Isso atrai os peixes-boi que já estão soltos na natureza e que aparecem somente de vez em quando, em especial nessa hora do rango :) Assim conseguimos avistar três nadando livres, além daqueles que estão sendo criados no cativeiro e que sempre podem ser vistos.

hola, estaremos viajando a porto de galinhas en estos dias, queria saber si se puede hacer una excursion p ver manaties, si ustedes estan lejos de porto, cual es la mejor forma de llegar, y los datos que crean necesarios. somos una familia de 5 ( 4 adultos con una nena de 6). les agradeceria mucho la info. saludos

Hola, nosotros anduvimos bastante por la zona y sinceramente no me parece imperdible la excursión y más considerando que tienen un buen rato de viaje desde PDG hasta Porto das Pedras. Respecto al traslado hay excursiones (en trafics) que desde PDG te pueden llevar para el sur, pero dudo que haya alguna que vaya a Porto das Pedras exclusivamente.
Otra alternativa es taxi, por ejemplo desde Maragoggi a PDG nos salió algo así como $R60 (buscando precio por un rato, nos pasaron precios hasta $R150); y Porto das Pedras está más lejos aún.
Cualquier cosa preguntame, si algo no te queda claro que mientras esté a mi alcance te respondo.
