This was a sleeper stop. While it was on our general list for the Lake Superior Circle Tour, we were not expecting the beautiful scenery! It was mid-afternoon when we arrived after a fairly low-key and unexciting drive down the eastern shore of Lake Superior. What a wonderful surprise! Our absolute fave, do not miss, part of the park was Old Woman Bay. Katherine's Cove was also amazing and less crowded than Old Woman Bay. Both offer great views, picnic areas, and plenty of places to take in nature. If traveling, I would HIGHLY recommend getting the Ontario Parks pass ahead of time. Very similar to a state park pass in the states, it allowed us unfettered access to all provincial parks throughout our trip without worrying about having to purchase a day pass or rely on cell service to do so.

We stopped at the Agawa Bay Visitor Center on our trip from Sault Ste. Marie to Wawa. After using the clean restrooms and viewing the Bear skeleton, we perused their museum. Here we learned about the First Obijwe People who harvested maple syrup/berries/nuts and fished before leaving to hunt and trap, then their interaction with the Hudson Bay Co beginning in 1823. There were pictures of the formation of potholes, huge logging tows of pulp logs and a 310 lb sturgeon caught near here in 1922.
After a picnic lunch, we walked 2km of the shoreline beach trail seeing birdlife, redberries and blueberries with views of Montreal Island in Lake Superior.

Very beautiful lakeside park. Friendly welcome and numerous explanations on the possibilities for hiking or canoeing. Too bad there is so little parking space on Highway 17. Magnificent views are too stealthy.

True the highway is noisy, but the beach is lovely. However, our entire trip was ruined by jerks who went wild. Their kids ran wild and they drank all night long. The ranger came by at 1030 pm and told the kids to stay off the road, but did not tell them to quite down. These types of jerks ruin our parks for everyone. It would be nice to seem them get a fine and tossed permanently.

I believe I left a piece of my heart there. I have never been so blown away by a view in Ontario. My husband and I had the best time ever . Everyone who lives in Ontario should make the drive. You won’t regret it. Just be sure to bring warm clothes. It’s definitely cooler there than other parts of Ontario.

we did the nokomis trail and make sure that you do this trail counter clock wise, as it will so much easier on the knees coming down.
The out looks are certainly beautiful in the fall colors.
Though we certainly enjoyed our hike, and this trail is the one everyone recommends, i still like the sand river trail better. Not as much as a challenge as nokomis trail, but maybe i like the sound of the water and the waterfalls more.

Loved this park. So much to see and do. Only down side is traffic on highway 17. Trailer sites are a little tight if your not experienced

Beautiful trip! Weather was good and breathing scenery. Plenty of look outs and rest stops as well as several place to pull over and dispose of your rubbish. Highway has been well maintained.

One of my favourite overall provincial parks due to the variety of things to do and the fact that we still have more to see after this trip. Beaches were out of this world - bathtub island was fun, katherine cove was lovely. Trails were great - agawa pictogram location was very picturesque as was Sinclair cove which you could visit on the same trip.
The only drawback was that we stayed at Rabbit Lake which did not have a nice beach and so we had to drive to the agawa campground which was a better location. Unfortunately we tried to get in that park and could not.

We spent 2 nights at Agwa Bay campground in the beautiful -- and huge! -- provincial park. It was chilly near the water but the expansive view of Lake Superior from the beach was worth being a bit cold! While some of the sites (especially the ones next to the beach) are small and relatively open to the elements, our site was one row away from the beach and surrounded by trees. We could still hear the waves at night. The sunset and the stars from the beach were simply incredible. We did 2 hikes in the park: Crescent Lake and Agwa Rock. Crescent Lake was an easy stroll around a small lake. There were lots of mosquitoes near the water but the path through the woods wasn't too bad. Agwa Rock was a bit more challenging, with lots of ups and downs over loose rock and smooth rock faces. There are pictographs at the end of this hike but you have to go down a hill to the edge of the water where there are waves crashing at your feet. There are ropes anchored to the rock to hold onto while you view the pictographs, but one slip and you're going to be in ice cold Lake Superior! We skipped that part.
Agwa Bay is a great campground with an informative Visitor's Centre that details the natural and human history of Lake Superior. I would highly recommend this park.

Heading to Lake Superior provincial park. Just wondering Any food source in the park? Or Along the highway that runs though the park?

Hello. Wondering how cell coverage is in the area? Anyone working remotely from here? On Koodo mobile. Thanks.

Hi there, just wondering if anyone has hiked the 65km Lake Superior trail during the month of May. What was the weather temperature like during the day and night? Is the trail even open in May to hike? The park is now closed so I can’t get any information from them.
Thanks in advance.

I am not sure you realize how cold it can be in May that far north. Of course the other problem, if you wait until June when the days warm up, the black flies are bad. I recommend that you call the park office and get their advice on an ambitious hike that you are considering.

Hi there, I’m planning on hiking the 65km trail in sept. What’s are people recommending for hiking boots, backpacking boot or a day hiking boot? I’ll be carrying a loaded pack for 4 days.
Thank you
撰写日期:2020年1月28日
Get a top quality ankle high hiking boot and don't go on the cheap side - buy a reputable brand. The type of boot often depends on the terrain. Mountain and rock climbing, or even rocky trails require a thick stiff sole. Normal trails require more of a strong running shoe ankle high style that are lighter weight and have some flex in the sole - but not too much flex. If there is mud and water a full height boot may be desirable, especially if its not hot outside. The sole should not be a hard Vibram material, but rather a moderately thick durable rubber type material that has some grip. Waterproof a must, durable exterior, rubber toe cap. Do not get too thin of a sole. Also important is a fairly thick wool or bamboo sock - take with you to try on the boots for sizing and take a spare pair on your trip. Changing socks part way through your day is a pleasure you would never have expected. Dry them a night. Happy trails.

Anyone have any suggestions on a good campsite with a pop trailer /electric?
撰写日期:2019年10月27日
At Agawa Bay, check the map on the reservation page which has campsite photos to help. There are two loops, the northern/hydro loop has electricity. The better sites are closer to Lake Superior for the views. Just get as far from hwy 17 as possible bc of the noise. Bring a very long (100’+) extension cord.
If you can go without power, I’d recommend it and find a spot on the south loop which has a little more trees and Is a lot more quiet. Next to the water preferred.

Hello- thinking this is where we are going next year. What is the price per night to camp at a lake site and do they have cabins as an option as well?
撰写日期:2019年9月16日
No cabins. Campsites are about $50 CAD. I recommend a site at Agawa Bay CG close to Superior and in the south loop, where there is less noise from the highway. Agawa Bay is on the southern side of the park but easy access to many of the park’s beautiful sights, beaches, hiking etc.

I'm planning a solo motorcycle trip through here with one night of camping...any issues with Bears or other animals. I will be on a motorcycle so food will be not locked up. I'm thinking I need a bear vault or have to hang a bear bag? or would this be overkill?
撰写日期:2017年6月24日
there are MANY bears in that area. I would rather be safe than sorry... watching a bear wreck your bike and saddle bags would definitely suck.
also LOTS OF moose, which are far more of a hazard for bikes.
