Apparaissant sur une pièce de monnaie canadienne (10¢) depuis 1937, sur trois timbres-poste ainsi que sur la plaque d’immatriculation de la Nouvelle-Écosse, la goélette de pêche et de course Bluenose est sans contredit l’image de marque de la Nouvelle-Écosse illustrant l’importance de ses industries de la pêche et de la construction navale tant sur le plan national qu’international (présence à l’Exposition universelle de Chicago en 1933 et au Jubilé d’argent du roi George V en Angleterre en 1935). C’est en 1921 que cette goélette légendaire, conçue par l’architecte naval William James Roué et réalisée au chantier naval Smith and Rhuland de Lunenberg, a pris la mer pour la première fois et remporté la même année son premier trophée des pêcheurs (International Fishermen's Race), exploit qu’elle a répété les 17 années suivantes. Sa course s’est cependant achevée en 1946 lorsqu’elle a heurté un récif au large de l’Isle aux Vache, en Haïti. Sa réplique, le Bluenose II a été lancée en 1963 (gouvernée par le même capitaine, Angus Walters). Elle a d’ailleurs été construite au même chantier naval que la version originale. Cette merveilleuse goélette a été offerte au gouvernement de la Nouvelle-Écosse en 1971 pour jouer un rôle d’ambassadeur de la voile et de la Nouvelle-Écosse. Elle peut être visitée par le public ou même utilisée pour de petites croisières.

I really like the culture of the Bluenose Tour. They hire staff that are interested in learning to sail. These young people have such interesting stories and watching them "man the rigs" was an awesome experience!

Highly recommend booking a trip on the Bluenose ll ! The ships crew - amazing!!! Everyone knew their job to make the passengers feel safe, they were all approachable and knowledgeable when asked questions about the ship, area and personal interests.

Came down here expecting to see this ship, however it wasn't in the harbor. This was a bit disappointing. Harbor looks very nice otherwise.

One of the greatest times of my life. I was present where she first launched in Lunenburg being just a teenager. Now at 71 along with my wife experienced a lifetime dream. First the crew all young seasoned professionals, interacting with visitors from not only Nova Scotians, but other parts of the world, was fantastic. My congratulations to her captain and crew, who demonstrated how to run the ship, hoisting sails, lowering and docking. Very pleasant day had by all.

We had a wonderful time on board the BlueNose II. The crew were amazing! Highly recommend! The BlueNose II is a beautifully maintained boat. Enjoyed our sail around Bedford Bay.

Had a wonderful time on the Bluenose II. The crew were all super friendly and answered our questions when they weren’t being bad asses, hoisting sailing and coiling ropes. I highly recommend this tour just for the experience. Also seeing Lunenburg from the water was spectacular

Wow! We had about 8 knots of wind and it was enough to raise the sails. The crew were incredibly knowledgeable and interactive. I reserved this ticket a few months before our trip. There was a large crowd of stand- bys waiting for a no-show who were disappointed. We bought a few things in the Bluenose Store. Since it was the end of the season most sizes of t-shirts and polar fleece were sold out.

Enough people have given you dimensions. What I could add about Bluenose is I think it's very valuable to know the history of the original Bluenose before you take your trip as it will help you to appreciate why the folks of Lunenburg are so proud of their heritage.

The Bluenose II isn't available to view until June 10th in Lunenburg. It's not in Halifax until July 29th.
