July 12 -2024 Wife and I wanted to get out for a day trip and Hard Luck Canyon came up- was 140 minutes drive for us - getting to the location after stopping to get a bite at Brothers Diner was a non paved road for 18km. ( take the exit before the town to have a paved road experience). Canyon was quaint and beautiful… not much water as no rains in AB or melting snow. Would say good for a one time visit.

We enjoyed our time at Hard Luck Canyon. It's wheelchair/stroller friendly from the parking lot to the top of the falls. From there down into the canyon it is not wheelchair/stroller friendly. The stairs down into the canyon are very steep but it's worth it once you get to the bottom.
We loved following along with the signage that was every 10 meters. We learned a lot!
The waterfall was dried up so we were a bit bummed we didn't get to see the falls.
The drive out to HLC was mostly paved and then there is gravel. The drive took about 30 minutes. Lots of parking and a washroom in the parking lot.

What a fantastic place to visit with the family. Just a quick walk to the bridge that overlooks the canyon. When we visited the falls was spectacular but we have had a lot of rain recently. We spend an hour just exploring and playing around in the creek as it was a warm day. Recommend for anyone except the stairs leading into the canyon can be to much for some. They can still enjoy the view from the top.

Although a quick walk, we were happy we drove the 40 minutes from Carson-Pegasus Campground to see it. It has a British Columbia feel.
This was a very short walk to a bridge viewpoint over the falls and then some steep stairs down to the river and small canyon. The water was very cold in May. We were able to wade across easily, but it was way too cold and shallow for extended swimming.
It was a hot day and there were dozens of families hanging out and climbing the falls. You can go down the river a bit to find your own spot on the rocks away from the crowds.
This is a dog friendly place as long as they are alright with steep stairs if you want to get to the water.

This little piece of Alberta is a great learning tool for children studying the age of Alberta rocks. Very informative Very accessible, except for wheelchair. The washroom was clean. Lots of safe fun around the water. The only complaint is that the gravel road could use a grading as lots of washboard.

A 12 minute walk to the 100 steps descending the canyon. Once down there, a great spot to spend some time!

Whether you live in Whitecourt, visiting Whitecourt or just passing through, Hard Luck Canyon is a must see. It’s our little hidden secret that is sure to amaze you. Prepare yourself as it is quite a workout but so worth it in the end.

After a short little hike you come across a very scenic canyon with a waterfall carved out of the sand stone that is picturesque. The hike is very simple however there is limited accessibility as the there are steep stairs to get to bottom of canyon which can become quite slippery when wet. The road does turn to gravel after a short drive out of town.

Een kilometer of 20 buiten ligt de Hard Luck canyon die via een korte wandeling en een aantal trappen te bereiken is. Je kan via de stenen proberen de overkant te bereiken zonder natte voeten. Leuke korte activiteit

How far of a hike is it from the parking lot to see the waterfalls

The pathed path is only 10 -15 minutes from the parking lot; however, there is a very steep staircase down to the falls. If you are not able to do the stairs, the canyon view is still nice.
