If you go to West Vancouver, possibly for the Lighthouse Park, make sure you stop at the Cypress Lookout for a really nice panoramic view of downtown Vancouver and the waterfront.

We stopped by this place on our way to Squamish and I'm glad we did. The cypress trees in the area look lovely and provide a relaxing environment. The view of Vancouver from a distance is also great! There are benches and tables onsite for picnic. I'm happy that Mr. Dave Barrett fought for the preservation of the forest lands in Cypress Bowl. Otherwise, we wouldn't have this park to visit and enjoy. 😀

We zijn toen we naar horseshoebay moesten voor de ferry, de berg even opgegaan naar de viewpoint. Moeite waard om even naar toe te rijden.

My partner and I did the Bowen Lookout trail (2.2km) and we really enjoyed it. As a less experienced hiker It was certainly a bit of exercise but it was very doable. It was still a beautiful hike even though it was foggy and we couldn't see that far once we reached the lookout. I would happily go back to this park and explore other areas.

Great viewpoints to either drive or hike to. Nice trails but most are rugged and rooty so be prepared. Good place to see bears and mountain birds. Winter wonderland as well but if you are there for nature or a winter walk, the parking is very challenging for non-ski/non-snowboarders. Parking better in the off season but can still be very busy on summer weekends. Good to get there early. Be careful driving the road up as there is often tons of bike traffic.

Such a beautiful park!! The hike to St Marks Summit was amazing - moderate climb and well worth the views from the top. Loved the old growth forest.

Nature.
BC Parks and Rec do a heck of job keeping debris off the roads, wildlife safe, and maintain a healthy space for all to frolic in the snowy-woods! Thank you! Its so blissful up here.

The drive to the top is one amazing drive. Can't drive too fast on it. The best surprise is at the top when you see Olympic Rings as they were during the Olympics. We were there in the summer, no snow but still an amazing place. Great views of the city and the harbor.

A gem of a local ski hill! Arrive early to get best parking spot, buy your ticket online ahead of time. I personally love the blue runs, and the black ones when they are groomed. I am season pass holder, so its great for a half day ski and lunch in The Raven Pub after. Excellent food. The hill is well managed by the owners. We sometimes just drive up for lunch and watch the skiers. Its so close to town. Night skiing gives you Vancouver night time views like a sparkling carpet.

My favourite part of Cypress Provincial Park is the Yew Lake Trail. Nestled between the two peaks comprising the downhill ski area of Cypress Bowl, it is located just west of the lodge that was built for the 2010 Olympics. BC Parks has erected very interesting illustrated signs explaining plants and points of interest along the trail. The 2km loop is billed as wheelchair accessible, though there is rough ground for a few hundred metres to reach the start of the trail from the asphalt-covered parking lot, and there is a short steep part at the beginning or end of the trail, depending on which way you tackle the loop. BC Parks suggest that wheelchair users travel in a clockwise direction.

While it is a wonderful place for everyone to experience a range of sub-alpine environments, it is an excellent spot for my elderly father to enjoy nature, and I have seen some very young children exploring the outdoors in safe surroundings there.

The dragon-fly patrolled lake is located on the southern part of the loop, and is more two shallow, interconnected, lillypad-fringed ponds than a lake. It supports an interesting variety of plants, insects, and the occasional bird. The next part of the trail winds through bog, with different plants and views. There is then an Old Growth Loop, with giant firs reaching to the sky.

The northernmost part of the trail also serves as one of the access points to the Howe Sound Crest Trail. The southernmost part of the trail splits off from the Baden Powell Trail.

Snow flies on the trail by early November at the latest, and in harsh winters, the snow can persist as late as June.

Dogs aren't allowed on the trail except in winter, when they must be leashed.

Heavy rains can sometimes drill furrows in the path at the beginning of the southernmost part of the trail, but BC Parks is diligent about filling them in at least annually.

All in all, the Yew Lake Trail is a very pleasant and educational way for everyone to experience the sub-alpine in a gentle way.
