Waste of time

We were doing a tour of all the chalk figures & went to see this one. We couldn't see it at all from the road so we walked the path to it. The path runs out & you have to go up a steep hill to get to it. Then when you arrive, you're too close to even know that it's a kiwi. There's a marker there that gives the history. But this isn't worth visiting unless you have a connection with the NZ army or just happen to be walking in the area.

Not easy to see ....

Not particularly easy to see from the road but nevertheless well worth a visit if only to honor the soldiers to placed it there.

Holiday with my wife

We drove to Bulford to look at the barracks area as I had lived there whilst my dad was based in the area.
We came across the monument whilst looking around.

An unusual sight to visit

While showing 2 New Zealanders some white horses on hillsides, I found this curious sight, and took them there as a surprise, on the way to Stonehenge.

It isn't easy to find or see from the ground, but we all enjoyed seeing the unusual carving and reading about the history behind it. It was a nice short walk, about 10 minutes from the road, some steep hillside.

Historical landmark

Although I’m aware of the nearby Fovant Badges chalked into the hillside, I’d never heard of this chalk landmark until a friend who lives nearby and knew of my interest in military history suggested we seek it out. Located just outside Bulford and a short distance from busy A303 (take Solstice Park Services junction), the landmark is on hillside to right of Tidworth Rd. Initially we drove across the military training area to left of Tidworth Rd and viewed it from a distance and then moved on to park at end of Gaza Rd, taking the footpath up to the Kiwi. It was initially marked out in 1919 by NZ troops to keep them busy while waiting repatriation after service during WW1. During WW2 it was camouflaged to avoid being used as a landmark by German aircraft and rechalked in 2018. The climb is not over strenuous and views are more than worth the effort!
