I attended at the end of 2019 with some friends from Uni, but unfortunately, this saved to drafts, and i didn't realise till now. The location is large and full of wonderful animals. We really enjoyed the day walking around and seeing all the different animals. We took the bus to get there, which was pretty straightforward, which always makes life easier. It was during term time but still seemed relatively busy, but not heaving, so it made it easy to navigate the park. We enjoyed all the different areas on offer, which included outdoor and indoor animals. It was so interesting! The staff were nice too and welcomed us upon arrival and provided a map of the park. It was a great day out for everyone.

The final day, and what a day, 186 years of history, fantastic day, but also a sad day as the Zoo was closing its doors for the last time at the end of the day, loads to see and read about, with extra information boards put up to cover the 186 year history, really looking forward to seeing the amalgamation with The Wild Place Project, and all the new homes for the animals from the Zoo, so thank you for a dab last day, but we are looking forward to the New bigger Zoo.

Went for the first and final time last week. It was a wonderful day. The enclosures weren’t the best but for an almost 200 year old zoo it was far from the worst. The keepers clearly have a deep love for their animals and I look forward to seeing the new Bristol Zoo being born at Wild Place.

We visited the zoo as a family a couple of days prior to it closing down permanently. The online booking process was easy and we allowed extra time to get there and to park. By the time we got there due to traffic delays the main and both overflow car parks were already full leaving us having to walk at least 2 miles from the Downs with a baby and another small child. When we got to the zoo it was outside our time slot and we had to queue to get in. Due to the sheer volume of visitors it seemed chaotic and whilst the staff at the entrance did their best to manage the situation, once we were inside there seemed to be way too many people inside. I am not sure if there was staggered entry for visitors but it had to be close to exceeding capacity. The animals were great though especially the ring tailed lemurs, seals, monkeys and lions. Most of the outdoor animals were not visible and may have been hiding due to noise from the larger than normal crowds. Hopefully the move to Wild Place will improve the experience for everyone, as it is a larger site and can be expanded to create extra capacity for both the animals and the visitors. Parking will be its achilles heel though as if this isn't right from the start and if the access off the m5 isn't improved it could harm its reputation. This is crucial to its future success and I really hope they succeed and thrive at their new permanent home.

We travelled all the way from Exeter. When we finally arrived all the car parks were full so we had to park down the road which then cost us £7.50 for the day.
We were disappointed as there was no big animals apart from lions,
All the fish tanks and seals we couldn’t see properly as all the algae was disgusting and up keep of the water was bad.
The toilets were disgusting
Will not be returning

This coming weekend marks the end of an era when Bristol Zoo Gardens closes its doors to visitors for the last time. I've been visiting the zoo for as long as I can remember, the fourth of six generations of my family to do so (great grandmother, grandmother, mother and aunt, me and my cousin, my children, my grandchildren). I say great grandmother, grandmother, and mother, because as a child I don't ever remember the men of the family being included in those trips - it was the ultimate girls day out as far as we were concerned!
This afternoon I was given the opportunity to visit one last time and I'm so very glad I did, even if I had to wipe a few tears away on occasion as special memories came flooding back. And, I got to see the red pandas awake and moving about, which was a special treat!
Sad as it is to say goodbye, I know this is the right thing for Bristol Zoo to be doing, and I can't wait to see the changes they make at Wild Place Project over the next few years as the two venues combine.

A very special place to visit. 5th oldest zoo in the world!!!
We had a lovely family visit down memory lane as we had not been since our son was at school...
Yes, lots of people on bank Holiday Monday. But the animals, the talks and the weather more than made up for it. We were so pleased to have visited one more time before closure. And look forward to the next chapter when visiting Wild Place.

It felt like everyone had stopped giving a damn and were just using the last week or so as an excuse to get as much money in as possible. You couldn't get to any exhibits properly to see anything, huge queues everywhere, not that this is the zoo's fault but kids running round screaming literally everywhere

Is it likely that the car parks will be full? If so where is the alternative location?

When the family and I went recently we got there about 11:45 on a Sunday morning and the North carpark nearest the entrance was full but we got a space in the West car park which is a very short walk away and clearly signed.
However being Easter and with a sunny day predicted I suspect the zoo will be crowded so the only alternative parking is in the surrounding residential streets. Although this is an area of residents parking permits parking is free on Sunday’s and bank holidays.

Hi Nicola --- I was thinking of visiting Bristol Zoo and read your review!!!!!! ----- You haven't even mentioned the actual Zoo!!! So a very weird review of a Zoo you have given! --- Didn't you realise that you were reviewing a ZOO and not a Cafe!!! Hahaha but perhaps I will just take a packed lunch!!

It's very good Zoo with excelent breeding programme for endagered breeds . and it's good fun too. We didn't eat there so I can't comment about the cafe .

It is a very good zoo however why can't the lions be moved up to wildplace where they can feel grass under their feet and have more space ? It seems so cruel to keep them in such a confined space?

Wildplace is still very much under development so I am not sure what the end intention is for the lions but I volunteered at Bristol Zoo for 17 years, up until recently, so I will ask!

I remember taking my children with my mother it rained all day. The kids had a wonderful day and I remember it with great fondness.
