A great way to spend a day. Visited on the Coach weekend and it was good to see the venue so busy. Great cafe and entrance area. Lots to look at all round the grounds. Had two steam engines running throughout the day and no limit to the trips on them. Plenty for young children to do as well.

Just got back from another brilliant day with the kids here.
I am a childminder and we took 6 kiddies out with us. It’s not our first visit we are regulars because the children always have such a brilliant day here and adults too!!
Today was a special day with Thomas and Percy, Rusty and Dusty and the Fat Controller there
Lots of rides on Thomas a real Steam train and other special things there like teacups etc brilliant.
We usually go on a steam day and the children love it. The mini train ride is the best we have been on, lots to do, freebies, and good cheap food.
Lovely helpful staff all volunteers all love the kids.
A brilliant day out with the kids we will definitely return

The site has dramatically expanded since I was there some years ago and there are signs that not enough volunteers are available as many locomotives and rolling stock are in a state of repair. Nonetheless the main entrances, toilets and cafe are very good, as is the museum which was not open when I last visited. They managed to have two engines in steam providing free train rides and a bus event made more things to see. I particularly liked the miniature railway at the far end of the site. Great people as last time

Found centre ok. And well laid out
There is a lack of signage for disabled people crossing from one side of the site to the other
But the thing that the book shop very expensive when other books sale stands selling for a lot less

what a brilliant place! We visited with our 4yr old and 6 month old, and a friend with her 3yr old. We loved the fact that there were real big steam trains, a miniature train ride you could go on AND an outdoor model railway too. Trains galore! The steam trains don't go far - up and back on the track, but to be honest that's perfect for little ones, as the fun is seeing the engine, getting on and off the old fashioned carriages, and looking out of the window. So a 15-20 minute ride is perfect. you can ride as many times as you like, and the trains run really regularly (every 30mins or so).
The miniature train ride is £1.50 per ride.
The kids also enjoyed watching the model railway enthusiasts running their trains too.
Inside the main visitor building there are carriages you can explore, an engine you can climb on to and plenty of space in the cafe. There are also brio train tables and a gift shop.
The site is the perfect size - enough to explore (and plenty of space to run around) but compact enough for little legs to get from the miniature railway to big steam trains to the engine sheds to the cafe and toilets without complaint. The food and drink was really good value (not sure when I last got a coffee for £1.50?!) and there's plenty of space and tables for you to enjoy your own picnic food too. The whole place is staffed by a friendly and helpful team too, who were brilliant us when one of our party started to feel unwell.
Buckinghamshire Railway Centre isn't one of those places that's a bit cynical and designed to fleece you out of all your cash. Instead, it feels like a place that's run by people who want to share their love of trains and rail heritage - who also ensure it's professionally run, safe and well-appointed.
We will be back!!

We had the most Fantastic time at the railway today. Fun for all the family (our group were aged 2-80).
My little boy had the time of his life looking at and riding the ‘choo choos’.
Lots to see and do. We particularly loved the cafe section and museum area.
All volunteers and staff welcoming and friendly.
Well worth the entrance fee and thoroughly recommend a visit.

A very positive visit to Quainton to see the engines and to ride on the steam train. Staff were very friendly, the cafe was well stocked and the site manager made provision for the club to have a line up of vehicles inside the compound. It was a very pleasant visit enjoyed by all who joined the club meet. Well worth a visit.

Plenty to see for all ages, especially if you enjoy trains and a bit of nostalgia. It is located not far off the A41 between Bicester and Aylesbury but because of current roadworks you have to make a long detour to get there. You start by vising quite a grand building which is a bit like the York Railway Museum in miniature. Then you can go all round the yard, where on Sundays and certain other holidays there will be some steam trains running. It seems to be entirely staffed by friendly old codgers who love steam engines! You can take a journey on a passenger train with rather dilapidated carriages, but unfortunately it only runs for half a mile or so. There is an appeal running to extend the track, which will make it more interesting. Simultaneously a goods train was shunting back and forth. An interesting museum contains locomotives and rolling stock from quite a period of history. It was interesting finding out all about the Brill tramway, which came via this station. There is also an enjoyable miniature steam railway (12 inch gauge) run by a local enthusiasts' club, for which a small charge is payable.

Very enjoyable day out on May Bank Holiday weekend (Sunday), unfortunately the Monday was booked up. However we still had a very enjoyable day out. Covid restrictions abided by, without spoiling anything. Must pay especial thanks to Helen, who was brilliant. She made sure that there was no queue pushing for the 'railroad' type of trains. Plenty of picnic tables, and plenty of litter bins, so no excuse for litter louts!
We originally visited Quainton Railway Centre in 2014, and was not disappointed in our second visit, which is sadly the case in several of our experiences.

The friendliest loveliest people! Clean and really well thought out. Our 4&5 yr old loved the miniature railway ride! Had to pay £1.20 each for that but was fun. The steam train ride literally went for a minute if that and back again which was a she as we thoroughly it would be a proper ride picking up speed for 10 mins or so but it's not. We enjoyed our visit and would return. The village of quainton is lovely too!! So we had a good morning out.

Hi I’ve booked on line to visit on Sunday 5th Aug. Can we use the trains anytime of so we get an allocated time. Approx how long do u need to spend to cover everything?

The trains can be used at anytime, you ride up the track and back again twice.. it only lasts about 10 mins if that.
The min railway was great fun too and i think it was only £1.00 per person (this is just to help with the upkeep of the mini engines as they are all volunteers own kit). we were there approx 4hrs.

We've booked tickets for a Thomas day but can't see any info about when to arrive for your departure. Anyone offer advice how long before your booked train to arrive? Thanks in advance

Hi there, we open at 10am and you can come anytime - but you must aim to be there at least 20 minutes before your allocated train time! You can then spend the whole day there if you like! Take in the kids' show and face painting. Have lunch in the café. Hopefully look around the museum (it may have to be closed if the weather is particularly bad!)
I really hope you enjoy your visit!

What are the carriages like on a thomas day?
xanah
manchester12 条分享
Hello, the carriages are old ones, with separate compartments of 6 or 8 seats. A corridor runs the length of the train connecting compartments together with doors coming off the corridor taking you into each separate compartment. Does this help? Thank you!

Planning on a visit possibly in September. Would like to know if anyone visited on a Thomas Tank Engine Event Day, if it is unfortunately raining - are there enough of other activities that are sheltered or indoors - or is this all outdoors?
Thank you!

Sorry, I am new to Trip Advisor, so I am sorry I didn't reply to your question. I am wondering however, if you did come and visit in September and what your thoughts were? On a Thomas day we have loads going on inside, with a children's live show, colouring, badge making, video coach, face painting, meet the Fat Controller - and it's all included in the ticket price.
