An interesting place to visit with lots of things to read and discover about the history of Jersey.
Could spend ages here if so inclined, well laid out over several floors and includes a film presentation, coffee shop and information centre, all for free ..( donations encouraged)

Wonderful Museum & tourist information centre & we finally had time to spend a couple of hours having a proper look at everything after two brief visits.
The Victorian House exhibition is exceptional & the animations are the best we have ever seen. We really enjoyed the film about the history of Jersey & also the bon appetite exhibition, which is informative & amusing . Thank you all for helping to make our first visit to Jersey so enjoyable.

The museum is quite small so doesn’t take long to look around, there is a nice cafe on site where you can enjoy a light lunch and a cocktail or other drink, including quality coffee

Last minute recommendation to visit to escape rain. Very impressed. Entry is free but donations welcomed. A lot of interactive exhibits and a favourite was the Victorian House.

I found it interesting. The different things they have in there.they have different pictures of art in there as well.i found it worth the money.

This museum is a must to visit. The whole museum is well set out with interesting exhibits and an excellent introductory film covering the evolution of the island through the ages.
There are interactive films etc which are very good and activities for children.
The museum is free and has a very good cafe/bar.

Recommended as a first visit in Jersey. The staff are very knowledgeable and will help you decide what to do on your stay on the island. The museum itself contains an interesting collection and you can visit a Victorian House and see a film loop about the island attractions.

Thank you for recommending the Jersey Museum and for highlighting our knowledgeable and dedicated staff and volunteers. The Story of Jersey film and the Victorian House are firm favourites with visitors and visits are now greatly enhanced with the recent opening of our new exhibition on the first floor, La Tèrr’rie d’Jèrri, Being Jersey - stories of our island. Entry to the Jersey Museum is currently free.

Free entry to this house with lots of history. Interesting story about the family who owned this house.
There are alot of stairs to climb for each section, but there is a lift too. Unfortunately one part was closed at the time of our visit.

Interesting visit and currently free due to one floor being renovated.
The film at the start is worth watching. It's a shame the first floor is being renovated as we felt the museum lacked a bit of coherence and were missing exhibits telling the history of Jersey, I assume that would have been on that floor.
What we could see was Victorian rooms which were interesting. I liked the dolls house on the third floor. There was also a food exhibit with an interesting video about Jersey food traditions.
It's currently free so definitely worth a visit and the staff were nice!

Welcoming staff and speaking French. One of the exhibitions traces the life of a local family in English and French, very interesting.I less liked the 2nd exhibition on local life but it's a matter of taste

I want to know more about my great grandfather and great great grandfather who were born there. will you be able to help me with this when I visit?

No I was and am a mere traveller myself! And you don't need the museum for this kind of info but the Archives - Google Jersey Archive - they have staff on duty to assist... I went with a similar question and found them tremendously helpful. If you make contact before your visit you can save a lot of time when you actually get there... Good luck with your search. Also you can try the Censuses online - you might find a bit out there too...

I would like to know if I can find out when I visit St Hellier next Spring whether I can find out anything about my great grandfather who was born there on 18th Feb 1839. His name was Thomas Alfred Davies and his father, Evan, was a British ship's surgeon. Evan too, my great great grandfather, was born in Jersey, 9th May 1791, and died there 5th Oct 1867. I have never been to Jersey and would love to find out where they lived and what I can find out about them.
