This is a 'must do' trip if visiting Dartmouth or the nearby area...
The paddle steamer is 100yrs old this year and the last working coal powered paddle steamer in the country...
The 1hr sight-seeing journey costs just £11.25 for adults (children £9, family tic £38) & is excellent value for money...
The trip takes you out to mouth of the river Dart estuary, then back up the river passed the Dartmouth start point, before returning to where you got on... the scenery is picturesque & accompanied by brilliant (and at times humerous) commentary from a member of the crew...
Amongst the sites are castles, Agatha Christie's estate, the Royal Naval College, plus much more...
There are refreshments & toilets available on the steamer... plus covered or uncovered seating areas...
The river cruises operate daily at 11:15, 12:30, 13:45, 15:30, though check sailing times when book incase of changes...
We really enjoyed our trip on the old steamer & highly recommend this trip!

Superb boat trip on the river Dart, from the river mouth up towards Dittisham. Loads to see and hear about from the informative and humorous on board commentary. The ship is a delight - 100 years old this summer, and still going strong. The 1 hour trip is also excellent value at £11.25 for adults. Toilets and refreshments on board. Can’t imagine a better way to get an insight into the area and get to see sights and sounds not available from the shore. We loved it.

I have visited Dartmouth many times, my Mothers family comes from Dartmouth. But in all my visits, I have never taken in the unique perspective that a paddle steamer trip down then up the Dart provides, very enjoyable.

We diverted miles to jump onto KC, we had several trips when she was on the medway, even having her to ourselves on several times. It was a pleasure to see her on her home river. The trip was really good, went further than I expected and the commentary was really good. It was a bit busy though but it didn't affect our enjoyment and as long as it helps to preserve her

Very enjoyable way to see the area, the commentary was informative and entertaining. Beautiful views and an easy relaxing way to spend an hour or so!

Fabulous afternoon spent on the Kingswear Castle...great commentary too. Been comingbto Dartmouth for years but learnt quite a few pieces of interesting info etc. Beautiful vessel and lovely scenery...what else could you ask for. Thank you for making my husbands birthday special.

Very relaxing cruise with running commentary about the area and its history from the skipper and added stories that will make you smile. Although it was very busy it was well organised. We caught the steam train from Paignton to Kingsweare before catching the boat at Dartmouth.

A lovely trip up and down the river with friendly, informative commentary. There are a lot of different seating areas to chose from which should suit all tastes.
The Captain has a sense of humour which adds to the narrative and we learnt about the various houses and castles on the river frontage.
You can also go and watch the steam paddle actually working and the engineer stoking the fire with coal.

This is a really special experience, especially on a sunny day. I suppose the ship is almost unique now, but she is still steaming splendidly and, apart from a very attractive and entertaining tour of a beautiful place, she is a window onto a past world of day excursions. The machinery is open so that steam-buffs can enjoy their affliction, the scenery is grand, and the harbour generally is alive with life. The commentary is decent too. If I was being picky I might have a mutter about the management of the passengers ashore before boarding, which was a little brusque on a busy day, but the crew on board were great. I'd probably have given this vessel a '5' rating anyway, but at this price... an hour's harbour cruise on a genuine heritage vessel for under a tenner... there's no doubt at all.

Would you need to book in advance or just on the day for a July visit

Dear janetlittlebaby!
You do not usually need to book in advance for the paddle steamer but we suggest you do arrive in reasonable time to purchase your ticket as the publicised departure times are very accurate. If you are making a special trip, please do give us a call on the day (or day before) you'd like to travel just to check she is running to schedule. We'd hate for you to travel here and miss out should something unexpected happen.
We do hope you enjoy the trip on this lovely old vessel. We are very proud to be operating her!
