This is a truly lovely spot with all the facilities you could want. HOWEVER for a basic no frills sausage bap (3 slices of sausage) in the cafe I was charged £7.50 which I regard as an outrage. As I ordered four I was down £30. This really was a disappointment. Added to the £3.50 car park charge for just over an hour I felt somewhat exploited.

This is a lovely pebble beach which is so picturesque. You reach after about ten minutes drive from Dartmouth. Regrettably not dog friendly but such a lovely place to see

Total rip-off parking (£9 for 3 hours). Better beaches nearby. Sauna is a nice touch though. Stoney beach like others until the other side of Start Point

Lets start with the bad news .. we ate from the takeaway ..Smash burger & vegan burger ..looked great but both dripping in grease ..We really thought we were back in the 1970s …who on earth fries when you can grill. Oh and totally overpriced. Good news its a beautiful well kept place

Terrible day out. Having previously visited and having always enjoyed the destination we decided to visit upon Friday 30th August, we got prepared for a wonderful day out... it's always been a favourite of ours, also intending to eat dinner there as well (I checked social platforms that ensured us the beach and café were open as usual). However, after we had traveled for 1 hour 40 mins, we were simply told at arrival, "go to Slapton!' in a brusque and insulting manner, whilst the gentleman who uttered the demand pointed at a sign that stated the car park was full. It's possible to see the car park from the road - it was clearly not full by any stretch of the imagination, there had been no mention of the early closure on the website or social channels, which still purported that they were open. So not only had we been lied to, but we received no apology for the inconvenience. I will not risk a visit again.

The beach looks beautiful on approach and the parking was easy with people in his vis jackets pointing out where to park.
The beach is shingle and very unforgiving on your feet. We had taken beach sandals but you really need proper beach shoes.
The water is very clear and excellent for paddle boarding or kayaking. The beach was busy when we went but felt it accommodated everybody well.
The only downside was the cost of parking £9 for 3+hours and the cost of the food and drink at the cafe with no alternatives close by. £12.50 for a crab sandwich ouch! But if you stay all day and take a pack up you can keep costs down for a family day out.

We visited here as two families with children ranging from 4-13 years old. There are two car parks so plenty of space. The car parks are camera operated and you pay as you go out via the machine. I think over three hours worked out at around £9. There are toilets here and a small shower to wash off from the sea. The beach itself isn’t sand but very tiny pebbles which is nice as it doesn’t all stick to you. There is a cafe area and also a takeaway area. It is quite pricey so if there are a lot of you I would advise that you take some snacks with you. Be warned, when paddling out there is a deep drop not too far out so if you have young children it’s best to keep an eye on them especially if they can’t swim. You can hire paddle boards also. It’s a lovely place to visit and a really lovely day out. Would highly recommend.

Been going for about 10 years and gets busier with each year. Beautiful, well maintained bathrooms, shop and food outlets (both pricey, though).

It looks absolutely beautiful. But then you get there and find there is no sand, just shingle, and your 3 year old granddaughter hates it. And so do you.

A really well-run operation with plenty of parking, good access, great facilities and good cleanliness. The beach is expansive with a designated swimming area patrolled by lifeguards. It is comprised of fine shingle.

hello there. Is metal detecting allowed on your beach? I am a fully insured metal detectorist and can supply proof of insurance and my identity. All holes will be filled in and left exactly as I found it. Your reply will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I’m sorry not sure as we couldn’t go as far as streets as the road was closed, I’m sure you can via the coastal path but best check an OS map, we will definitely go back as it’s a gorgeous part of Devon even though the side roads are a bit narrow as you expect .. sorry can’t help more

Hi all, Surely if you went somewhere else say the jurassic coast, it would be something more like £12 per day. £8 to me is a brilliant amount to spend for a days entertainment. If you are so worried about spending an "extortionate" amount of money go to West Bay. £2 for a whole day*
*depends on avaliabilty

Only during the winter not in the holiday season, which I believe is from Easter until end of October. This is a blue flag beach.

We are going to Dartmouth in July this year, I am disabled is Blackpool sands ok for me?parking close to the cafe (I can walk about 10 mtrs so close to the cafe is a must) some of the reviews say parking in high season is expensive? eat at the cafe and parking is free ????(we would be doing this anyway)also the shingle beach some say is not suitable for disabled people,are they generalizing or referring to wheelchair bound people only?????

Yes it will be perfect they let disabled people park behind the cafe (quite a good car park but some steep bits)it’s on a hill. The other huge car park is behind the beach a big field, but they are pretty good at getting disabled people as close as possible. March to Oct there is a charge to park as it’s part of a private estate.£6-8 per day per car. The restaurant has flat access all concreted , seating benches outside and a concrete slip walkway down to the shingle (small shingle) beach.breakfast is served from 0830 and full menu all day.(alcohol licenced too )
If you mention you are just eating in the cafe they may let you in free .
They hire deck chairs , windbreaks etc too in the shop next door too . Toilets are in the car park behind the cafe .
Do visit it’s our favourite.
