The harbour is one of the focal points of Dartmouth. There are so many yachts and ferries about which just add to the atmosphere of the town and area

First time visit to Dartmouth even though its just a short drive up country from us!
This busy harbour and estuary us full of life with working and pleasure boats chugging up and down. Really worth resting a while and letting the action wash over you.

We’ve visited Dartmouth on a number of occasions, so we were fully prepared for the normal parking issues. However this was the first time that we used the Park and Ride, so we were surprised that there is no Park and Ride bus so you have to pay additional for a local bus. The Park and Ride pay machines don’t accept cards so you’re limited to cash or Ringo - if you use Ringo be prepared for the different car park times on the App vs the timing displayed on the car park tariff- I paid online but fully expected to get a parking ticket, luckily I did not but I could only buy one day at a time so had to remember to extend parking daily.
My biggest issue with Dartmouth this time around was the overall attitude of a number of those who clearly depend on tourism. Eating in Dartmouth is not easy. Many places advertise eating times but run out of food early. Staggeringly the local fish and chip shop (Rockfish Takeaway) despite advertising opening hours up to 9pm ran out of everything by 8:20 pm. It’s pretty much impossible to get food once you realise your plan of fish and chips is scuppered at 8:20! We ended up with a bag of crisps from the local CoOp,
Yes it’s early in the season but this was the first Bank Holiday weekend - just feels like it doesn’t really work.

Even on a rainy weekend Dart Harbour & Dartmouth are an absolute delight.
A bustling harbour with plenty of boats & pleasure boat trips (understandably not that many trips available in February)
Everything Chen & tidy.

Dart Harbour was picturesque and historical with interesting views as you walk along the coast towards the castle. Well worth a visit to where the Mayflower set sail

Such a beautiful place to visit. Lovely walk along the river taking in the scenery along the way. Plenty of cafes, ice cream shops & restaurants around area. Loads of boat trips to choose from. Ferry crossings either end of river.
Great location for crabbing with family also. Highly recommended

Brilliant spot to chill out on a bench and just watch the boats pass by whilst eating a fish and chip dinner.

I have been coming to Dartmouth for years from when I was a little one to an adult with my own family. And I have to say it has definitely gone down hill from what I remembered. Hardly any shops open to look around. Restaurants/cafes shut. We struggled to find somewhere to eat for lunchtime. Not a lot there and not a lot to do.
Definitely would think twice before have the hassle or cost of travelling here again in the near future.

We absolutely loved Dartmouth! Such wonderful views across the harbour, the ferry, the steam train, arty quarter, historic buildings, designer shops! Highly recommended!

Lots of little shops to walk around . The town is a bit touristy. Did along walk and had a good look at all the small boats up and down the river. Got the ferry from the other side and back afterwards. People walking around seem to ebb and flow dependent on the trains and then ferries.

Hi,
I went as part of a day trip, I bought the ticket at Paignton Railway Station which included the steam train, foot ferry + Dartmouth River Cruise.
