My son and i went last night, we don't live in Plymouth but were staying at a nearby hotel. What an amazing place, the building is stunning. Yes, a lick of paint wouldn't do it any harm but it was a real throwback to being a kid. Prices were the cheapest i've seen anywhere (£4.50 each) and the seats were great. Place was quiet as the staff said there'd been false reports of closure. The best thing about the place is its staff however, who were friendly, chatty and really helpful - long may it last!

Wegens slechter weer, een bezoek aan deze bioscoop. Vergane glorie en oude stoelen. Desondanks wel moderne en goede aparatuur (beeld en geluid). Bediening was erg vriendelijk en de prijs zonder meer laag!

Not sure exactly when but the management have conceded that the slashing of ticket prices by the main competitor, the multiplex in Coxside, the opening next year of the second multiplex in Bretonside and the closure of the bingo club next door to the Reel have all combined to make this well loved Plymouth facility financially unviable. There has been talk of efforts to create a cultural hub in the building but most interested parties await the substance of a planning consultation/applications by the site owners.
It’s a pity and makes us wonder what may happen to the small art house cinemas at the Arts Centre and in the university. If either the Vue or Cineworld dedicated a screen or two to quality minority interest films then the independents would have problems.

Maybe basic decor and seats need replacing and painting but a nice 3 screen cinema family friendly cheapr prices with two for one meerkat can get in for £5 for two...... worth a visit but dont expect state of the art cinemas Go regulary.

The vue cinema a sort distance away is bigger, newer and has more screens.
However, if you are prepared to see beyond the ageing decor and tired carpets,this is a lovely old cinema at a fraction of the price of the other one for both the tickets and the drinks/ice creams etc. And when we went the staff were helpful and friendly. If more people were to use this old gem they would have more funds to redecorate etc..

We love supporting this cinema. Good location in town. We went on a Tuesday, good prices £4.50 and as my 2 friends are Senior Citizens they both for a hot drink included with their tickets. Staff were very friendly and even thanked us when we were leaving. Would highly recommend to keep this old cinema open by attending.

have been going to this cinema for a long time. good prices, handy when your intown, its just needs an upgrade, more better toilets, new seats, ect, this building needs to saved as it has a lot of history, and a lot of famous people have played here like the beatles. the staff a very friendly,

So I picked Reel Cinema as they are both cheaper and closer to me than VUE. This, however, will be my first and last time there. Although pleasant staff and the cheap prices (£6 compared to £11), the problem began when they say "Student discount" but do not accept student I.D, only NUS card which not all students have. Then there was the cinema itself. Around 20 people went to the vueing and all the way through the experience we could hear people walking up and down, making it such as distraction as this noise could be heard over the film itself. Next, I don't believe, in the 21st century, that they have heard of heating. It was -5 outside (weather app) and the inside of the cinema (whilst sat in our seats) must have been around 0'c as I had to keep my jumper on the entire film. I know VUE is more expensive, even with student prices, but at least their audio is 360, noise is reduced compared to film and the cinema is all around comfortable to sit in. End of rant.

Came to see fifty shades of grey on Valentine’s Day, pre booked so we could guarantee a seat and didn’t have to queue however the ticket machine was out of order! Paid and sat down, many seats out of action due to being broken and sound not overall great either. Not bad for the price however not as comfy as the chain ones! The prices of snacks ect have increased a lot in my opinion in a short space of time! Occasionally will pop back if vue is sold out or times are easier! It would be a shame to loose Reel as it is something which has been around for years and I like to support local however could do with a small revamp and sound check!

I much prefer going to the Reel Cinema for a couple of reasons:
A: It is cheaper than places like Vue
B: Also, because it’s older, it has a welcoming feeling.
C: The staff are friendly and make sure that you are okay in the duration of whatever movie you’re watching
D: Finally, it’s less busy and there are more seats to choose from.
If I had to choose to either go to the Vue or Reel, I would definitely choose Reel😁five star rating from me!💫
