Lovely walk across the beach to the island. The pub was quite expensive (£7 for half a cider and a cup of tea) and they charge you a £2 deposit for a plastic cup if you want to take your drink outside. Staff were lovely though.
Car parking is a nightmare with most only taking change (who has change) and the app versions not working due to no signal!

very exciting. super cool small island especially if you are an Agatha cristie fan. i would recommend kayaking round the island to look for pixie cove. the hill isnt hard to walk up if you want a view from the top its beautiful

The island provides a pleasant walk with great views. It is not too long and is suitable for those with slight mobility difficulties. Apart from the hotel grounds the island's fauna and flora have been left to nature.

Lovely little beach that you walk across to get to the island, however I would not reccomended taking small children! As we were walking over to the island I did not realise that the burgh Island hotel have range rover cars driving up and down the beach!! as I turned around I was shocked to see a range rover behind me so close driving at my 2 year old son! Refusing to stop!! I HAD TO GRAB MY SON AND RUN! Who on earth drives at a toddler who has no danger awareness yet! I presumed a beach would be safe for kids to run around and enjoy playing in the sand.
There was no warning signs of vehicles using the beach, but the driver looked annoyed with tourists and he is probably in the wrong job!
So please be aware to keep an extra close eye on your children.
On the way back you can take the tractor if the tide comes in but hotel guests get first priority on the tractor so expect to que for a while in the hight on season.
Over all, great for adults, not great for kids.

I thought this would be a lovely day out, but sadly that wasn’t to be.
Car parking meters only accept coins, the “GoRing” app has no signal and the free Wi-Fi was absolutely useless, so after searching through pockets, under car seats in glove compartment eventually scraped enough together to pay for parking.
Don’t get me wrong, the beach is wonderful with dogs allowed on the right hand side of the causeway and an enjoyable walk across to the island. It was a lovely sunny day so we thought we would have a drink and a bite to eat on the island, but that’s another review in writing.
To sum it up, bring plenty of the queens money and your own packed lunch and a drink with you when you visit Burgh island.

Wonderful wedding venue. As guests, we had an amazing time! Fabulous balcony room, delicious food, great service. A fantastic experience.
Tip: Book your return transfer by sea tractor on arrival (at reception) to ensure you get a place at your preferred time slot.

We walked across Bigbury on Sea beach at low tide and climbed to the top of the island. There is a derelict building and not much else except The Burgh Island Hotel. The views are spectacular and well worth the climb.

Brilliant views from Burch island and travelling back on the tractor was great fun, watching the big wheels turn in the sea as it got deeper. Cost £2 each and have the correct change. Great experience!

What a great day. We walked to Burgh Island and then came back by Sea Tractor for only £2 each. What a great value experience. Great views from Burgh Island and such fun watching the tide cut the island off as it comes in. Make sure you have exact change though and check tide times to get the best from this day out. Well worth a visit though.

We plan to visit Plymouth by train this September & are considering splurging on a stay at the Burgh Island Hotel. We hate to hire a car just to pay for it to sit in the Bigbury Beach car park. Also, being used to right-hand-side-of-the-road driving, we fear taking on those narrow, windy roads on the British side.
It would be mid-week, so the Friday only bus is out. And we'd like to find a less costly option than a taxi to & from Plymouth. So, we're wondering about getting as close as possible by bus & taking a taxi the shortest possible distance.
While were dreaming, how about paying for a boat ride to & fro? Sure, it would be more expensive than the taxi, but at least it would be more interesting!
Any suggestions besides ,"Skip it"?

Sorry, but I cannot answer your question. We drove to Bigbury aiming to walk across to the island and back before continuing our journey. However, it was raining so hard we viewed the island from the car park for five minutes before setting off again. As we didn't speak to any locals or make the journey across to the island, I'm afraid I can't help. Why not contact the hotel direct and ask?

Hello
We are staying just outside Plymouth in 2nd week of november and would like to visit the island at some point.
Will the pub be open to the public? and is there a cafe that would be open?.
I used to come here every year as a child but this is my first visit in 40 years :)

The Pilchard Inn serves food and has plenty of character. While we were staying on the island it closed early as the sea tractor couldn't run due to high winds.. Ask the hotel nearer the time re opening hours.

My wife thought it was very snobby. On arriving at island was imformed the public house was open to hotel residents only or regulars!!!!No picnics allowed , which we can just about accept. It was noticeable there there was no sign or noise of seagulls !!!!. Don't bother to visit .

We had exactly the same feeling! I suppose admitting they'd actually rather like to keep the place private and exclusive wouldn't really endear the owners to the good citizens of Devon.
