AVOID! I booked a visit by Chard Branch Royal British Legion for Saturday 5th October 2024 between 13.30 and 16.30 hours. No special needs or disabilities. The booking was accepted by email and I provided them with my telephone number. On arrival after an hour's drive, two cars and six passengers, paid for parking and then found the place closed. Absolutely appalling customer service and treating customers with contempt. No phone call, no email, Nothing! 4 hours driving (2 cars there and back) £4.40 parking (2 cars) 6 days wasted (6 people). AVIOID AVOID AVOID!

We were down In Dorset for a few days, the weather wasn't good, so looked for something indoors, and found The Keep, when you first walk in, it doesn't look very big, but it's like the tardis, over 3 floors, there is so much history, going back many centuries, lots of information to read, plenty to see, really worth a visit. It's also easy to get round with a wheelchair , which we needed.

Having lived in Dorset nearly all my life I can only say that i am disappointed I have not been to this Museum before now. It was excellent. Spent about 3 hours in here, and could have spent much more if we had time. Nearly every cabinet was interesting and informative, and had loads of information. The views from the top were wonderful. Please visit this museum, you will not regret it. Particularly if you are from Dorset - a chance to find out about our Regiment. It even has HItler's Desk in it - how did that end up in Dorchester!

What a great find. Went with my elderly parents and they (and I) really enjoyed ourselves. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the lift meant my parents could visit all 3 floors and we even made it to the roof (in the rain!). We all learnt a lot and the displays were amazing. The recommended coffee shop was lovely too, so many thanks for that 😁

Brilliant historic museum full of fascinating artefacts spanning several different wars. Worth the money and a great view at the top.

On a recent trip to Dorchester, my eldest son and I decided to visit the keep one afternoon when the weather was dismal.
We spent a good few hours exploring the exhibitions which were very informative and interesting.
There are loads of mannequins dressed in period clothes and uniforms, all of which added to the realism.
I would highly recommend it.

I was very impressed! We went on a rainy afternoon as our 5-year-old is currently into castles and the Second World War. Also had our 2-year-old with us. Lots of interactive features to keep them both interested- dressing up, brass rubbings, a table to play with toy soldiers. There was also a trail to find the hidden mice. Also very interesting as an adult.

This was absolutely brilliant! The lady on the front desk was very welcoming and we had the entire museum to ourselves. Everything was enjoyable with so much to read. We got in to character and dressed up and enjoyed walking through the trench and spending time at the top of the keep overlooking the views. I was even gifted a free pen on our departure. Couldn’t have asked for more, very reasonably priced and I absolutely recommend that anyone visits here!

What a brilliant museum! So interesting and everything was clearly labelled and very interesting. The trenches section was the most exciting part for the children. Parking next to it and good value. Would recommend

There is a concessionary admission fee of £5.50 for OAPs.
Special rates apply to any group visits, school visits and tours. It would be best to contact the Curator in this instance - 01305 264066.
