We have visited many times and it is always wonderful. Very peaceful and relaxing garden which goes down to the edge of the small river. Very easy access from the carpark and local amenities. Thank you.

The Clergy House is the first property bought by the NT. It is small and booking is essential. The history and architecture are fascinating, and the garden is a delight.

There were a lot of volunteers for such a small property (perhaps because it's such a historic property for the NT) and there was too much repetition in what they told us. Some planning between them, to reduce the repetition, would be good.

A local sight and one worth visiting. We spent the day in Alfriston which is a lovely place and this was one of the recommendations on the tourist guide.

A small NT property and gardens that has an interesting history and a tranquil calm. The garden is small and pleasant. Well worth a look if you are a member and in the area.

Disappointing visit- very small house and just a couple of artefacts. NT filled out the visit by a guy giving a talk which I didn’t find particularly interesting.

Octavia Hill, who pleaded for preservation of this House and its purchase by the fledgling National Trust wanted the building “to be left to tell its story to the days that are to come” - but sadly some National Trust volunteers appear only interested in the sound of their own voice.

This is a unique House and garden and should not be missed but our visit yesterday was a classic example of National Trust Attitude. It started with the unwelcoming “Have you booked? You can’t come in if you haven’t booked in advance. This is a small property and we don’t have space!” Absolutely fair enough and perfectly understandable but when I asked if there might be space the following morning the answer was “Well, I haven’t got a sheet for tomorrow. I don’t know. You’ll have to go online”, then followed by “Well actually I do have 2 spaces but you’ll have to go away and go for a walk or go into the Church until then (there was a funeral taking place in the Church but the wait was in fact only 10-15 minutes so no problem at all). Why make life so difficult?

When we did come back, radio contact with a colleague inside was needed about the fact that 4 people had been caught in traffic and 1 was still trying to park the car. Apparently no-one could go in unless everyone was there. The family concerned had to stand and look at the ground while their ability to join the next group was being discussed in front of everyone else.

And then - an introduction to the house, in the garden, which would have been very good if the lady’s colleagues hadn’t been chatting so loudly to each other nearby (and commenting on the abilities of another volunteer colleague) that they almost drowned her out. Then, “Has anyone NOT been in the exhibition room? “ None of us actually, as you herded us all into the garden without even mentioning an exhibition. But the downstairs room was now empty, so we needed to move through into the house. The exhibition would have to wait.

And so we could enter, with reasonable precautions about not crowding and keeping a distance - only to find ourselves upstairs with a volunteer who wanted unconnected people to be kept firmly in one small group, fully attentive to him, so he could repeat at length everything his colleague had already said. He tutted loudly as one or two people entered the room when he was speaking and tutted even more when we turned to leave, having had enough of him.

As we left the property, with perhaps 6 or 8 people around the House and Garden as a whole and no queue outside, another family of 4 was being turned away at the door. Perhaps the need for advance booking needs to be better advertised? (There was no notice on the gate about this when we checked opening times the previous evening).

The construction of the house, its preservation and the details in various rooms say so much, if you can look. The exhibition was instructive and interesting. Please, please, National Trust, put a smile on your face and try to be helpful instead of intimidating people - and let this building tell its own story. (For comparison, visit Berwick Church!)

A marvellous journey into the past history of architecture and construction inventiveness! Who'd have thought the floor of the main hall could be made of milk and chalk, for example? Complemented by magnificent gardens and set in against a background of outstanding natural beauty. Well worth an hour or two of anyone's time to pay a visit!

This ancient house is more than just another old place to visit - it is where the collective consciousness of our stunning national heritage became real. A sad ruin, of rotted straw and timbers, destined to be lost in the dim memory of history, became a beacon of our past and what the new N.T was to become. Hopefully, the Trust will now grasp the educational importance of this humble home and bring it to life to show how our ancestors lived from day to day.

We were in the area so thought we may as well visit this old House.

It's a small national trust property but is looked after in the usual standard. Covid booking in measures currently in place along with the usual safeguards and all done well.

We were given the history of the place by a couple of national trust volunteers and it's always nice to hear them talk with knowledge and passion about the place they are at.

Beautiful thatched building with lovely surrounding gardens and reedbed.

Parking is best done at the car parks at the north end of the village and then you can walk down to here.

So pleased that the NT decide it was safe to open this interesting house.. Staff and volunteers were very welcoming. Advance booking meant numbers were restricted and we felt safe. After a short advance talk from a knowledgeable guide we toured the house alone but guides in each room were on hand to provide information. A truly fascinating property
We only managed a brief look at the garden as it was raining but found the adjoining church worth a visit.
It had been suggested we should take tea afterwards at Badgers Tea room. Sadly this was closed and appears not to be reopening.
