I Like the facility for the sloping Kids pool area, But the Showers are appalling! Both The King Alfred and the Prince Regent in town have a mere trickle of tepid water coming out of a pipe with no shower head! And Freezing,Its like the Goolag! I am looking for a Gymwith a pool where I can take my Grandkids occassionally, I wont be joining "Freedom Leisure" again as it is a Rip Off. The Gym Membership should reflect this in their pricing as there are multiple hotels in Brighton offering Gym/Swim memberships for cheaper than here. If They dont want to pay for Decent Shower Facilities then They should Charge their Customers accordingly.

The gym is ok and has a couple of good team members on board, notably Jill and Joe who express an interest in their customers and not themselves. Also the mobile music machine overbears your own choice of music if you’re playing your own stuff.

We went to King Alfred Leisure Center to the swimming pool. We found the temperature is perfect for us,but the weater is a little dirty. Concerning the entrance, the price is correct. The staff are friendly, althoug they could give us some advice to improve our swimming abilities. Regarding the changing rooms, we believe they are empty and massive. But again, the floor looks a little bit dirty. In our opinion, the schedule is good because have many opportunities to swim.
We will return.

We go there quite frequently as our grandchildren really enjoy themselves. I guess it could do with modernisation but it is functional and, if the kids are happy, we are too; however, the miserable bored face at reception that has greeted us on our last two recent visits on a Sunday morning around 9.30am was really off putting. People should always be greeted with a smile and a good morning, not a scowl.

Visited here at the weekend to use the pool. Kids had fun splashing about and the change facilities were good. However the whole place looks tired although cheaper then my local leisure centre but not as nice.

Customer service is the most important thing, and in this place they should run the training for the two lady in the reception, rude, unhelpful about all the service that you pay for.

This is (was) a regular place for me and has never been particularly good but is my closest pool. I would rather get a bus and go somewhere where the staff are not so lazy.
A woman with a float backed up the middle swimming lane and refused to move causing a huge backlog. The staff said nothing and I had no choice but to leave the pool after 10 minutes.
I thought; that's fine, it's annoying but one of those things, however when I mentioned it to the receptionist and asked if I could get a refund after not being able to swim I was told I would have to speak to the duty manager, Tracey.
The lady Radioed Tracy telling her the situation, to which she replied 'I'm poolside and won't be up for half an hour. Give him a comment card'. Yeah thanks very much for that Tracey.
God help you if you start drowning as the staff probably wouldn't notice or perhaps not be bothered to do anything.
Best avoided!

I have not been to the King Alfred for around a decade and I was very disappointed when I decided to pop in pop in with my daughter and mum, The entrance lobby is looking very tired. The reception just looks like chaos inside and the first disappointment of the day only had small swim nappies in stock which is no good for my 2-year-old.
Walking downstairs to the changing rooms the experience did not get much better, the smell of urine was overpowering, the changing rooms and the floor itself was dirty.
We got changed and headed out and were further disappointed in the lack of provision for children, my daughter got bored easily and we didn't spend as long as we had intended to.
After we had got out my mum and my daughter went to get changed and I went to shower in one of the cubicles the only one free at the time was the end one nearest the wall and found that all the water from the others was pooling at my feet and wasn't draining away.
This place is in serious need of some TLC, considering it one of two pools for the City it is not a good advertisement for our great City.

The general pool is quite big and would be nice to swim in if not for the nappies, hair and other trash that people have dumped there. There were also some kids biting bits of foam off the floats and spitting them in to the pool without the lifeguard telling them off. The changing rooms are likely to have old nappies.
The shower drains are all clogged up with hair and old shampoo.
Overall I think the state of it is appalling.

Today we visited the pool at King Alfred, which allowed us to make use of our Freedom Leisure cards, which entitles Brighton and Hove children aged 5-16 to free public swimming sessions.
Thanks to this scheme I only paid £4.95, which given the length of time we were in the pool was excellent value. I will definitely be going again, especially on another wet day like today.
The only thing that could do with improving is the cleanliness of the changing rooms and toilets. Although they were tolerable, the toilets were a bit smelly and the bin for general waste was almost to the top and that too was smelly.

Hi - I would like to swim in the sea in Brighton, but I am worried about leaving my stuff on the beach. Do you think I could go to the King Alfred Leisure Centre,pay he entry fee, leave my stuff in a locker there, and then walk out in my wetsuit and swim in the sea? Do people do that and is it acceptable?
Or has anyone any suggestion about how to swim in the sea in Brighton - if I leave my clothes and mobile phone on the beach will they get nicked and/or peed on by dogs? I'm planning on a day trip from London.

How often is the pool cleaned? I am often surprised at the amount plasters and general debris when swimming first thing in the morning - as wearing goggles reveals... Is the [tested] water quality ever 'posted' for visitors to see?

The pool has filters around the outside that the water "slops" into. This is then pumped back into the pool, so any debris will be caught as it enters the filter. To my knowledge I have never known it be closed for "cleaning" as like most pools they rely on chlorine. However they do have nets for large debris, I know because I saw them scoop a child's poo out once.
