This was my third visit to Solent Sky and I still find new and fascinating exhibits. The museum really brings to your attention the importance of Southampton to the evolution of aviation and its influence on the world aviation industry.

I went along with my father and husband not expecting to be at all interested but thought I will find a coffee and sit and wait…but my goodness…you will be blown away by this masterpiece that is truly a hidden gem. The aircraft were superb and the staff so helpful and knowledgeable it was a pure delight…but the highlight for me was the amazing Fire Services museum that has been put together by the fire contacts there…coming from a LFB background the history and way it was displayed is remarkable. Well done Sky Solent you got it perfect!

This is a first rate museum focused primarily on the history of the Spitfire aircraft but also focusing on the numerous aircraft factories that were in the area during WWII. Additionally, there is a very interesting focus on the flying boat history of the area. Finally, there are displays of the police and fire services and related civilian activities during the war.
Entry fee is 12£ and a recommended stay would be about two hours. There are eager volunteers ready to enhance the experience.

Excellent, excellent museum. Plenty to see and a hidden gem in a sprawling city. A highly informative and engaging range of displays which chart the development of various aviation aspects over the years. An interesting range of aircraft, mostly authentic examples now retired and some very rare. We also had the treat of a free flight deck tour on the Sandringham aircraft - a very detailed and interesting talk by one of the museum's dedicated volunteers. Entry price was very, very fair considering all there is to see at the site. Ample street parking close by, access to hot and cold drinks inside (self service with an honesty box), and so much to see, so plenty of space for visitors to wander freely and take in the exhibits. Definitely worth a visit and I will be back myself at the earliest opportunity!

My Grandson loves the hands on experience of this museum with so much packed in to the site. All the staff are very knowledgeable and patient, taking the time to assist and explain everything and anything to do with the exhibits. A thoroughly enjoyable time searching for Captain Crisp.

If you like aircraft and history you’ll like this museum. A modest collection of aircraft in a slightly odd building presents some very interesting facts about Southampton and its role in aviation and WWll. A great effort from a volunteer organisation. There is a slight hint of “amateurishness” about the museum - but in a good way. You can get very close up to all the exhibits , for example you can go in the flying boat and a couple of the other cockpits.
Overall, worth a visit.

Popped in here as I had time to kill and it was pouring rain. How happy I was I did . It was fabulous - yes the planes were good to see but the story of Southampton during the war and the short films were interesting and moving
Really enjoyed the visit and would highly recommend a visit if in Southampton!

An absolute gem - please don't be put off by the outside appearance the displays inside are well thought out and informative. Some of the items on display are unique. But best of all not only are the displays of interest to the enthusiast but the social history side is of interest to non aviation nuts, my partner especially enjoyed the displays associated with the airlines and passengers in the hey day of the flying boat era but many displays also highlight the experiences of the general public during war time.

A wonderful visit, very knowledgeable and helpful staff and volunteers. We spent a happy four hours looking at and inside historic planes, learning about their history.

What a wonderful place, from the moment we arrived you knew it was something special.
The guys at the ticket counter were very friendly, welcoming and helpful , and we enjoyed the banter, a great start.
Although the building seemed small from the outside, it turned out to be like the Tardis, larger on the inside.
The exhibits are amazing, some of planes I have only ever seen in black and white films.
The theme is aviation from the Southampton area, and who would have thought there we so many different plane builders. There are very informative information boards by each exhibit and some stunning videos of the wartime devastation on the city.
The huge flying boat is breathtaking from the outside and just as spectacular on the inside, this alone is worth the visit. At every turn there is something of interest. We had a lovely chat with the museum director who pointed out even more things to see.
We had parked outside on a two hour ticket, and had to pop out to put another two hours on !
Really can’t speak highly enough about this place, a big thank you to everyone there, keep up the good work.

What parking is near the museum for a blue badge holder, please? (Disabled Parking)

If you cant park on the road nearby, you could park in Ocean Village which is fairly close.

We were staying at a nearby hotel so did not drive, however I believe that we walked passed on-street parking nearby. Google maps shows a car park at the rear of the building.
