The Central Parks are a must for a visitor to Southampton or even a resident. The parks hold the prestigious Green Flag award which demonstrates how well they are managed and maintained.
Walking from Queen's park on the waterfront with it's fabulous monument and green Parakeets, head North through Queensway where you reach the entrances to Hoglands and Houndwell Park. Hoglands Park is a youth/activity focussed park but also has a significant historical significance and has been the home to cricket teams since the 1800's. There is a great skate park here, groups excercising and also SOCO are based here which is a group that supports youth music projects. There is a fantastic and accessible barbecue area in the shady trees and on the North East corner is a wildlfower meadow creeated to nurture wildlife.
In Houndwell Park adjacent, if you enter from the South, you will see another monument and looking North from the entrance is a spectacular avenue of trees. Houndwell Park is full of picnicers and people relaxing in the summer and hosts a beautifully designed boat themed play area.
Head North again into Palmerston Park where you will find a lovely green open space, littered with mature trees and again a central avenue of trees and an outdoor pavillion.
East Park hosts some gorgeus rose gardens, a dog excercise area, mini golf and tennis courts which are adjacent to the Flying Aubergine cage which has a gallery of local art and comfortable outside seating. To the North of the Park is the Queens Peace fountain which is being refurbished in 2021, a beatuful and almost hidden mosaic and at the North end has a secluded and peaceful rockery garden with a fish pond. don't forget to stop and view the Titanic Engineers memorial.
Watts Park on the North West of the central spine again has beutiful floral displays and several opportunities to sit and enjoy a view of the flowers, or you can sit in the gravelled area where the war Cenotaph and glass screens of the fallen soldiers tell a thousand stories.
Enjoy green spaces - leave nothing but footprints and take nothing but photos!

We walked through from our hotel and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the park was, not only was it a pleasant walk through to the town, there were picnic tables, park benches, playground for children, a band stand and in the evening there are lights strung along the pathway. We liked the park enough to go buy lunch to bring back to the park for a picnic.

A beautiful Park near Solent University, Southampton. Everyone was out getting some rare Spring sun and warmth. Easy access to public transportation and a great venue for families with small kids!

These are lovely parks in the city and it is a nice pleasant place to go for a peaceful walk away from the hectic city.

Fijn park waar je lekker tot rust kan komen.
Het is groter dan je in eerste instanties aan denkt.
Ook het titanic monument is er te vinden

Walked through this beautiful park on the way to town from our hotel. It was beautiful, with lots of different areas for the kids to discover and enjoy. We liked the mosaics the most.
Didn't see anyone doing anything unsavoury there, but I guess I was enjoying the park too much to be looking at other people.

The title of this review sounds like the pirate map from the hilarious old film yellow beard!! But is actually a guide to fitting in in the central parks of Southampton these days!! They are like a magnet for drunks and drug addicts! They take it in turns begging in the town centre, they share dogs and the majority of them actually live somewhere, they all claim benefits and the heroin addicts spend a day on heroin what I get to last a week, I had to walk through these parks at dusk a few weeks ago, I walked briskly and looked as confident as possible, the other people probably thought I was up to no good, but I reached the other side unscathed and un harassed, my advice is to just avoid the parks in general.. Especially at night

Behind Above Bar Street in the City Centre, on the way down to Debenhams there is a really good children's play area. We use it with our children of 18 months and 3 and a half and they love it. There are a variety of different pieces of equipment that should keep different ages occupied including climb on boat and castle, swings, roundabouts, balance beams, sand pit.
If your child needs a break from shopping this is ideal.
