We took a stroll through here while visiting the nearby cathedral to take a look at the Roman ruins which are in the grounds of the park. The park contains a lake which are full of fish although you can't fish there. There is a small river that flows along the side of the park also. There was a small bit of flood water on the path surrounding the lake when we visited which I can imagine can be a hazard and prevent using the pathway on the winter months.
The Roman wall ruins are nice to see and overall the park is a great place for families with a play area and a water play area towards the back end.

We visit the park annually in July as a family group to commemorate the favourite place of a deceased family member who was brought up in the area. This year we actually managed a picnic as for a number of years the weather’s not been good enough when we’ve put a date in the diary. The higher level near the Roman ruins and overlooking the cricket ground is our preferred spot as it has good views and more importantly the geese and ducks drop their muck on the lower levels. There’s a great children’s playground further along and plenty of space to spread out. The only downside is the area/path adjacent the toilet block at the end of the lake nearest the cathedral which easily floods during periods of rain and is a real detriment - not sure why better drainage can’t be installed?

Sadly, I couldn't visit the site because the parking machine wasn't working. People lined up trying, others tried calling, and after 20 minutes of watching and waiting, I gave up.
Also, the toilets were an utter disgrace. No toilet paper in any of the stalls, no soap, the bins may not have been empty that entire weekend and spilled its contents in the stalls (yes, THAT bin), the floor was filthy. The lights worked! If it wasn't for that I would have assumed the toilet had been abandoned.

This is a really great park for all forms of activity. Dog walking, walking, running and great facilities for the kids. Big car park there.

Wonderful location for a walk around the lake, have a picnic, to grab an ice cream, walk the dog and visit the inn on the park. easily accessible by foot from town or by car.

We love visiting St Albans as it is only fifteen mile from our house!
We wanted to visit the Verulamium museum but it is closed on Sunday,so we walked through the park and visited the cathedral instead!

Does anyone know if there are toilets at the park, and whether they are open at the moment due to lockdown (June 2020)? Thinking of meeting grandparents here for a socially distanced picnic. Thanks

The car parks by the swimming pool are free for the first few hours ! and it’s a lovely walk from there !!

There’s no signs saying don’t barbecue as far as I am aware.
Keep it away from other people, try not to burn the grass too much, clean up your mess afterwards and you’ll probably not have any issues.

The pay and display near the Inn on the PArk / Museum is £1.60 for 3 hours. If you park by the Abbey Theatre / Leisure Centre, it is free for 2 hours
