An awesome tour with Barney
Went today to do the tunnels with Barney our tour guide, he made the tour very fun and interesting, I recommend that you book this tour as there is so much too see, thank you so much Barney!

We went on a tunnel tour. Absolutely fantastic, and we both learnt a huge amount about the tunnels which brought the fort to life with a lot of history about Chatham as well. Barney was a brilliant tour guide and very passionate about the subject. He adapted the tour to suit our interests as there were only the two of us. Would thoroughly recommend!

Barney was an amazing tour guide so Mothering Sunday. We bought our inquisitive 2 year old and he made her feel very included and special. The grounds are amazing and Barneys knowledge was thorough with lots of great anecdotes. The views with the tour are amazing and the historical use of the tunnels was fascinating. Would happily go back again for more. Great for any budding historian and Barney was the best guide

A great experience today, visited the Tunnels with my family.. Tour guide Barney was fabulous and very knowledgeable of the history. We learnt so much and Barney the tour guide made it a fascinating tour, taking us back in time. I would highly recommend the tour of the tunnels. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!

Fascinating tour of the fort and its tunnels, describing how they were used in WW2 and napoleonic times. The guides, Barney and Steve were very knowledgable and friendly and able to answer any questions the group had. I'd recommend Fort Amherst as a great day out for all the family

We visited fort Amherst yesterday we had a brilliant tour with Saturday Steve he was funny and very knowledgeable, we thoroughly enjoyed it, Saturday Steve interacted with everyone an it was so interesting so a big thankyou so worth a visit, if you are a older person just be aware there is quite a few step s to climb at the end but so worth it, thanks for a brilliant day. So interesting.

Fabulous tour, small group and great for military historians and ghost busters alike. I really enjoyed how our tour guide Stuart was so informative. He and I were both locals. Worth a visit on a quiet day.

Excellent experience all around. Booking on line was easy. On site, Staff and volunteers are friendly and helpful. I went on a tunnel tour with my children and the tour guide Tony was brilliant. He made sure they were also involved and understanding the tour. We then toured the site and we thoroughly enjoyed it all. The views were great. Cafe food and service was good even when it was busy. Definitely recommend this experience to others.

After a slight mix up with who would be conducting our tour, Saturday Steve came to the rescue!
Steve was so knowledgeable and the tunnels are truely fascinating. Steve really engaged the kids and was extremely patient with our 5 year old! Thank you for a wonderful afternoon, we will be back in the summer.

what is the temperature inside the tunnels?

Hi, I am sure we were told they were about 7 - 10 degrees. I was in shorts and a t shirt and felt fine although it was very hot outside so it was a relief. We recently visited the Ramsgate tunnels and were told they were 11 degrees, I though Fort Amherst felt about the same.

To be honest it wouldn't make much difference on the weather I'd say 95% of your tour will be indoors under ground they also have a brilliant cafe if you arrive early so you don't have to wait around outside

Our tunnel tour was 2 hours long. For the £7.50 entry charge it's well worth every penny. You can then spend as long as you want before/after looking at the grounds, allotments, old cannons etc. Great day out. Highly recommend the tunnel tour.

Hi, I am about to take part in an overnight stay/ghost hunt adventure at your beautiful Fort Amherst.
Is there anybody in particular I should 'talk to', anybody who might like a friendly hello whilst I am wondering about in the dark?
I would like to present myself in a friendly manner, rather than "here we are, dare you to scare me", kind of thing. It isn't their fault that they have not yet found rest... Any advice gratefully received :)
P.s. sounds like you all do a wonderful job! Can't wait to meet some of you. Serena x
