The car park is small, right at the end of the lane on the left. Don't get confused with Rydal Hall entrance on the right.
The house is interesting but the star of the show is the gardens. Explore the numerous paths, terraces, and hidden nooks, with great views. This was Wordsworth's home for many years and you can see why he was so inspired.

Had a lovely afternoon at Rydal Mount. My wife is a big Wordsworth fan so this was a special visit. I had a great time walking thru the gardens. Also enjoyed Rydal Hall across the street, especially the beautiful waterfall.

I really enjoyed my visit here. From a warm welcome in the tea room (tasty cakes and well priced), to walking around the home. I could have stayed in the drawing room all day!

It was lovely to visit the Wordsworth home. It's a lovely house without the added dimension of its most famous resident. The gardens are delightful too. We enjoyed the tour with Keira who was knowledgeable, personable and enthusiastic without being too over powering. The cafe was nice too. I did feel that some of the written material could do with some updating in terms of its presentation but then that too added to its charm in a way. I actually thought this was my favourite of the three local Wordsworth properties - the most relaxed and human. Recommended

The grounds are lovely and well maintained and you get to learn a lot about Wordsworth. Well worth the trip. There is a little tea shop on the property as well.

It's been many many years since we last visited Rydal Mount. Had a guided tour of the ground floor with Keira who was very knowledgeable about Wordsworth so I recommend taking the tour. Always love it when there is a resident cat. Dora is her name and she was sleeping in Dora's room. It's lovely to leisurely walk around the rooms taking in the atmosphere. Took us around 30mins to wander around the house and a further 20mins to look around the garden. If it hadn't been for the rain I would have stayed longer. Also dont forget to visit Dora's field next to the church. It's currently filled with bluebells... just beautiful.

Except for the rain, which prevented my husband and I from extensively viewing the gardens, our visit was most enjoyable and informative. The house interior definitely gave us a sense of Wordsworth family life. The rooms were well labeled. The dining room was definitely my favorite. Many years ago I visited Dove Cottage; I suggest visiting the Rydal Mount site if your time is limited. From what we were able to observe of the gardens, they must be a delight in good weather; the layout appeared charming, even during a soaking. Whether you are acquainted with the works of Wordsworth (we weren’t) or not, a visit is 👍.

The house feels as if Wordsworth might walk through the door at any point. The gardens were especially lovely with all the daffodils in flower. There are toileting facilities and there is a tea room on site.

I am wanted to do a walk buckstone jump and rydal waterfalls. Found some instructions but they are from
Rydal mount and gardens. Im thinking of parking at
Parking pelter bridge as i hear parking is limited here and want to go early morning. Google says the place doesnt open until 10.30. Is it still assessable on foot to do that walk before then and do you have to pay to do the walk?
Thanks

You do have to pay at the tea house to enter the house and garden. It's £7.50 (or £6.50 with concession). You can pay a few quid less to simply visit the garden, but the house is well worth visiting if you are interested in Wordsworth. The garden, recently restored is very much worth visiting. Right across the lane is Rydal Manor whose gardens you can visit for free (or with a small donation.

Hi. Is the nearby woodland with art pieces part of Rydal Hall, across the road?

Hi Pamela, in detail, firstly the parking is very limited which is close to the venue. If you get parked there, it is about an 1 in 12 slope up to the pay desk. Then a reasonably accessible level short path to the front door. The ground floor rooms are pretty and interesting and all on the level. The stairs to the next floor are even, a bit narrow but with a banister rail as far as I can remember....two flights of about 8 to 10 steps with a turn in the middle. Once on the next level, all is even. There is no lift as far as wheelchair access goes and the upstairs corridors are pretty narrow anyway. The entrance lobby downstairs if I remember rightly is also to narrow for a standard wheelchair. The gardens - you can get a pleasant view from beside the house and potential wheelchair access around that top part, but the remainder is a narrow path set in lawn, and bumps up and down over tree roots, and is sloped up and down. The tea room there would not be ideal for you, but Rydal Hall Tea Room Im sure would allow you to drive all the way to the tea room door if you are disabled, there are three solid steps up to their door but space between tables and chairs inside is limited. I hope that helps. It would be SUCH a shame for you to miss Rydal altogether. It is a lovely place. x
