Lovely large park in the heart of Leicester. You could spend hours here and not want to go home. Rich with history. Stunning views

Unfortunately, this is also a reflection of Leicester, which is now a cesspool.
The town centre is full of the homeless, drunks, and is thoroughly uninviting.
I left the town many years ago, but recently returned for a few months, to be bitterly disappointed. And now M&S is closing. The final nail.
And please please please knock down Lee Circle!!!
Luckily my stay comes to an end shortly.

I was absolutely appalled, it was a disgrace. This once beautiful park has become overgrown, the bins had not been emptied there was rubbish all over the grounds including dirty nappies. The boating lake looked like a cesspit, it was black, oily and again full of rubbish. The gents toilets were locked as they were broken. We went to get a coffee and ice cream from the cafe this took nearly 25 minute's due to the staff having little or no experience of how to make a coffee.
This is heartbreaking as we spent many years at this park as children enjoying the grounds, boating lake and having picnics. It will be a long time before I step foot in the grounds again. The council charge for parking there so why not use some of this money to clean up this park ...

We went to Abbey Park because we met up with our family and they have a dog. What a wonderfully beautiful place!! We went into the dog friendly cafe and had the most delicious scones ever!!!

A lovely, well-maintained, clean and interesting park. We visited with my 2 year old son. It was a beautiful day and we had such a great time wondering around. His particular favourites were the Japanese garden and the toddler playground. We will definitely be returning to go on the train (which wasn’t open when we visited).
If anyone finds a children’s beige coloured hat, please message me as it is my sons and he is upset that I’ve lost it!

A park in two sections separated by River Soar. You can find the ruins of an abbey and a cafe in one section. Cross a pretty bridge to walk around a ‘Japanese’ garden with pagoda and red bridges. At the moment lights up of reindeer and structures.

Great park, only downside was the rowing boats had gone and we deliberately went to visit to do this as google said it was still available, still a great place though and the small zoo was great

We were in the area visiting family and had a spare few hours to kill, suggested we spent some time looking around the park, first of all it’s very well looked after with beautiful flowered areas, lake,boating lake and miniature railway which unfortunately wasn’t open in the school holidays, cafe was reasonably priced but unfortunately no WiFi for customers which one of the staff was quite abrupt about when we asked for the code,her reply to another member of staff was “no sharing WiFi codes!” Strange!

Parking is free after 6:00pm
Ideal for family picnic
Good size of play areas
Pets Corner with my favourite peacocks
Lovely grass, trees and many beautiful flowers

Went to the fireworks display tonight and got stuck in the massive queue for an hour!! I only paid to go for my little boy and we never got a chance to see them.
They really need to figure out how to get people in sooner, and considering it’s all online tickets you would think it would be quick!!!!!
If I could get my money back I would. So disappointed for my little boy.

There is parking inside the park. There are both free and park and pay I believe. The one closest to the ruins and by the pet corner is free. It is also very popular so you need to get there early in the day. We usually park outside the park. The cafe is closer to this parking area as well. Just past the ruin wall it is by the oval track. You can't miss it. The bridge crossing the river is in front of it.

Is Abbey Park Hilly? Looking at coming with my 90 year old Grandad but he is not great with hills.

I think it's rather flat, more like a big meadow. I've visited it couple of times with a toddler and also a baby stroller and had no problem with walking with neither of them. There are few bridges but I think you can avoid crossing them :)

Pets Corner is open when the park is open. The cafe has it's own hours and I am sorry I can't help you out with that. You may be able to find out online. The railway was closed when we went this winter so I will assume only certain times and again you may be able to find out online on the Abbey Park website or call Leicester City Council.
