Visiting the castle was one of the main reasons we came to Lincoln and we weren’t disappointed although there isn’t actually a castle!! The greeter was so friendly and helpful, helped us plan our whole day..
For the price of the ticket you get to see the Magna Carta, a free hour long guided tour of the grounds, the prison and to walk the walls. Good value and we spent a long time there. If we just had to pay £10.50 to walk the walls it would have felt very overpriced.
The Tour - It was good with so much information and fascinating history and I’d recommend everyone should do the tour BUT our guide was too quietly spoken, we could barely hear him unless we were up next to him. Also he had us crammed next to 2 overflowing industrial bins for 15 mins for no reason, of all places we could be why there???
I was fascinated by the Magna Carta. I couldn’t believe i was seeing something so important and old an it was right there. Slightly spoiled by the loud, rude, overbearing member of staff who told me off for using my phone calculator.
Loved the prison - fascinating, couldn’t believe the chapel, it was great to be able to wander round take take it all in at our pace.

Had a walk round the grounds for free, i think £10.50 per adult is a bit steep to walk round a wall, so didn't bother, i think if you charged less you would get more visitors willing to pay, you can do this for free in other locations, shame :-(

Intersting castle - but do take the included tour.
our guide (Barney) brought the castle to life for us. Very informative and amusing. He positioned the castle perfectly into the history of England from long before it was England. Great tour.

Enjoyed our visit to the Castle and Magna Carta. Free to enter the castle grounds with charges to visit prison and walk around castle walls. Tour guide available for the latter in price. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Although did not impact us, all areas not suitable if wheelchair access required.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Yes, unfortunately only the East wall of the Medieval Wall Walk is accessible to wheelchair users but we are really rather proud of that as the views are spectacular! With best wishes Lincoln Castle.

This may be an attraction you come home and on reflection, find it hard to rate it. It ticks all the boxes, then fails everyone of those boxes.
The grounds are free to enter but the prison and the walk on the walls have to be paid for. The crown courts are not part of the visit, but if you are a criminal, you get to go in free. Public are allowed as in any court to view proceedings.
I was on a tight schedule and not impressed having to wait nearly 10 minutes to get served because the person behind the till interested in chatting to two customers and giving every insight possible. What makes it worse is another employee just stood to the side like a lamp post and could have easily served me......think again.
It is £15 for a day ticket. You can go on a tour......this is actually not what you need to pay for. You can do this part of the tour FREE. The guide is informative with the history etc and tell you what you can view. But he doesn't not take you inside any building. Maybe this should be done as it be better value. This can take an hour.
You can view one of the four remaining Magna Carta's. So an historic document. That is worth seeing. They give you a map of what you can view.

I am saddened to read that you lost interest in your visit to Lincoln Castle. Unfortunately not everything in your review is accurate, for example the tour is only free when you purchase a day ticket and we do not have two members of staff in the shop - it could have been a volunteer not qualifies to use the till? I'm sure the staff member would have been happy to give you as much attention as the visitor ahead and would only have been trying to be helpful. I will have a word to remind them to be aware of people waiting in the queue. With best wishes Lincoln Castle.

I'm so glad we chose the guided your option. Our guide Laura Holmes was simply amazing: enthusiastic, extremely knowledgeable and very engaging. She brought Lincoln Castle's history to life in great detail and in a most interesting manner. Following the tour, we enjoyed visiting the Victorian jail and prison chapel. And to cap it all, one of the few surviving original copies of Magna Carta. We spent a couple of hours here and could have done more. We'll worth a visit.

Thank you all for such a lovely day out, and making our Weimaraner so welcome, he goes everywhere with us. I have been coming since I was a toddler in the 70s. And am so pleased you've started welcoming dogs. We love the cafe too and has a good range of food and even wine and beer if you want a treat. Making it the same weekend as the farmers market is great too.

We visited the castle as part of a 3 day break in Lincoln. It is fascinating with lots to see and learn about that we were there much longer than planned. We arrived at 10.15 and didn't leave until 3.30. We saw the Magna Carta, toured the Victorian prison and did the Wall Walk with the audio tour. Whilst on the highest point of the walls, we were treated to a low level flypast from the Red Arrows!!. Highlight of the day was the Guided Tour led by Paul Scott. It lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes and was fascinating. Paul is very knowledgeable and explained everything in a clear, concise, friendly manner. He was also happy to answer questions about other things in Lincoln that were not part of the castle. Also, the cafe is excellent with great food and very friendly staff. All in all - a great day out.

Had a great visit to the castle, our tour guide Ken said he’d pay everyone who left him a positive review so here we go (I ll send you my bank dets privately Kenneth), just kidding, he brought to life the history of the gaff, and our trip was certainly enhanced by his enthusiasm for Lincoln castle. He certainly educated us on the importance of Lincoln castle both locally and nationally. Our day here started much better than it ended, after watching England being beaten by the French at rugby, which not even they could do at the second battle of Lincoln in 1217 (I was listening Ken).

We visited the castle and joined the tour with tour guide Ken Moore, he was very informative, knowledgeable with fantastic humour and kept us all entertained. We came away knowing so much more about Lincoln, the castle and the history surrounding it all, a brilliant tour which we would highly recommend.

If you have a restriction on when you can visit the castle then it may be better to pre-book to ensure you get the time slot you are looking for.
Hi does the entry fee include all 3 attractions? Or do they have to be bought separately? Thank you.

Entry into the grounds is free.
If you want to walk the battlements,visit the Magna Carta exhibition and the chapel/prison and have a guided tour buy a day ticket .
Well worth it and very good value.

A lot depends on how much of the information you read and how many of the films you watch - also how fast you walk! I would say 3 hours is a fair amount of time.

Wheelchair users can access the Magna Carta Vault and all levels of the prison. With regards to the wall there is a lift to take you up to the walls but only the East Wall is accessible (the one over looking the Cathedral). Hope that helps.

I would say 2-3 hours. It really depends how many of the films you watch and whether you down load the audio guide on the wall walk.

Well I can now confirm that the castle day pass includes everything but I suppose if you want to do just part of the experience you can, for example we may go back later in the year and just do the walked wall for the views. However I think the website should explain it better

Yes indeed all included and make sure you allow plenty of time for the wall wall. The free audio guide available At the start adds great value. Make sure you visit the loo before starting! There are none on the way round!
