They don’t do Pre-bookings. Especially if you’re in a wheelchair. They’ll take your booking, make promises and not show up. Rude phone operator puts phone down after calling you ‘hun’ 100 times. Family 80th birthday ruined. Not the 1st time we’ve been let down. They get business in town so don’t care about residents, especially the vulnerable who rely on cabs.

Back in Liverpool and you can always flag down a cab, day or night, plenty around.
Set tariff and this is monitored by the calibrated taximeter. Basic fee £2.60 and £0.72 - £1.00 per kilometre between 6am and 11pm.
Hailed a cab at Anfield and was soon at our destination in town £6.60.
Driver didn't engage us in conversation but that was fine.

The car I booked for an early flight to the airport broke. Early Sunday morning did not look promising, but lady on the other side of a line was a star. The cab arrived within five minutes, and I was at the airport in no time. I give them five stars.

At 6am on 6th August a hackney that my daughter booked 1 week earlier plus 2 phone calls (including the night before) to confirm, did not turn up. She phoned at 6.05 to check and the awful girl said it would not be arriving as they didn't have one available. My daughter explained she had a flight to catch at 8am (Lark Lane to Lpool airport) plus 2 small children. There was no hint of apology etc. We had no time to argue. A neighbour in her road heard her distress and as he had a large car (large fold up disabled buggy for her 3 year old) was willing to rush her to airport. Was it not for his intervention, she would have missed her flight. Imagine the disappointment to her 7 year old son? What is the point of pre-booking a taxi if this company does not do this despite saying at the time of booking that it is booked? Our family will never use Mersey Cabs again. I have lived in Liverpool all of my 65 years and proud to be a Scouser, but we are ashamed of this company that represents Liverpool.

Was visiting Liverpool and needed a reliable taxi company. Rang them before hand and they said just ring 10 to 15 minutes before you need the taxi, and true to their word the taxi arrived on time every time.

Tourists who want to learn about the "real" Liverpool could do worse than take a ride in one of these traditional Hackney cabs. They all used to be black, but nowadays the colours more often allude to the footballing affiliation of the owner; but the familiar shape - similar to the famous London Taxis - is unmistakable. Visitors should note that, unlike other radio cabs, which are pre-booked, you can pick these up at ranks around the city, or catch one elsewhere, if they are free for hire. But you need to be aware that, unlike their "private hire" cousins, waiting time - eg at traffic lights, or in rush hour queues, is chargeable and the standard tariff is expensive too.
That said, these taxis are strictly regulated and all drivers have to pass a rigorous "knowledge" test. You are also likely to enjoy a good slice of Scouse humour, local history and often some passionate political views en route.

Not the cheapest way of getting from A to B, but pretty good value, especially if you are travelling with several others.
Mersey Cabs are black (Hackney) cabs and their cars can be seen on the city's taxi ranks. They can also be pre-booked and I have always found them to be punctual and reliable. The taxis are clean and well maintained and drivers seem to know their routes very well.
