Really attractive area to visit and easily accessible via tube ( South Kensington stop )
The museums even if no time to visit are magnificent buildings . Variety of restaurants so whatever you fancy to eat you will be able to find it . The thin house at Thurloe square is good to photo .

Wonderful, established neighbourhood. Great place to wander safely. Also a great central location for lots of tourist attractions and excellent transport links to go anywhere.

“I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… when I walked to those three incredible fantastic breathtaking museums (see my subsequent upcoming reviews and amazing “helpful” photos there).
WAS IT WORTH THE COST
It is free to be in the neighborhood
WOULD I GO THERE AGAIN
I certainly absolutely intend to visit so three museums again, along with adding the Royal Museum of Music and the Royal Albert Hall, so the answer is yes- I’ll return.
ADVICE
One needs to be in this neighborhood to visit those the Victoria and Albert, Natural History and Science Museums which should be in every tourist itinerary.

South Kensington is an excellent location in London to stay while visiting. Close to large parks, right on the main Piccadilly line and full of pubs, restaurants, and things to do.
We enjoyed the walkability and the general liveliness of the area. There are a number of nice parks close-by and the Victoria and Albert is an awesome museum.

Le quartier de South Kensington est l’un des plus chics de Londres. On y trouve plusieurs musées populaires dont l’accès est gratuit (musée d’histoire naturelle, le musée des sciences, le musée Victoria et Albert) ainsi que plusieurs institutions culturelles dont le magnifique Royal Albert Hall et collèges. Beaucoup de commerces également. Plusieurs parcs pour se détendre après la visite de musées : Kensington Gardens et Hyde Park. Quartier préféré des français expatriés au Royaume-Uni.

The ‘Little Paris’ - a moniker given to South Kensington with its quaint boutiques, pavements studded with restaurant chairs, French language, French embassy, French Institute, and most importantly, French patisseries! It was also the abode of William Makepeace Thackeray - author of Vanity Fair and The Luck of Barry Lyndon. For all bookish people, there is enough to make us happy there - a plethora of charming bookshops and cafes.
But this was not where we headed to…
We took another road - the Kensington Subway. I could swear I felt static electricity in the air.
Something was afoot.
Or I read too many Wellsian time travel stories.
Before us - a vaulting tunnel glazed with yellow-brown bricks and heavily riveted wrought-iron beams, top-lit by lightwells giving it a nostalgic feeling of the XIX century.
This Grade II listed building*, a relic of the great and indomitable engineering minds, has been almost unchanged since it was built in 1885.
Running east from the station, it turns northwards - underneath Exhibition Road, named after the 1851 Great Exhibition, whose Royal Commissioner, Prince Albert himself, used its profits to purchase lands now known as South Kensington to create a centre of arts, culture, and sciences.
The subway, thus, takes you back in time and to the Albertopolis - home to, as per Prince Albert's wishes, free museums, galleries and cultural institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Science Museum, the Royal Geographical Society, as well as, of course, the Royal Albert Hall
But this was not where we headed to…

I recommend South Kensington for those who go to London for the 3 museums on Cromwell Road and Exhibition Road. I stayed at Ibis Styles London Gloucester Road and it was perfect. Staff, location, room, breakfast, even the balcony above the entrance of the place with a beautiful view of Gloucester Road. 5' walk to Natural History Museum, V&A Museum and Science Museum, 15' walk to Hyde Park, 1' walk to the tube station.

Una dei miei quartiero preferiti di Londra. Elegante, pulito, tranquillo, molta scelta di locali di ogni tipo (pub, pasticcerie, ristoranti). Si respira una bella atmosfera e ci sono dei bellissimi palazzi.

Spent a week in this area in early September firstly at 54 Queens Gate Hotel (see separate review) and then an Airbnb in Stanford Road. We really enjoyed the area with its stately town homes, quiet streets, convenient transport options, pubs & restaurants. A little more expensive than our normal haunts but worth the upgrade. Especially good area to stay if you enjoy museums.

Hi, where would be the best park and ride from the M40/A40 (visiting from Midlands) to South Kensington tube please? Hillingdon takes 48 minutes which I’m not too keen on with 3 children on top of the car journey. Trains are working out way too expensive. Thank you.

Estuvimos 3 días el pasado mes de septiembre y es un barrio fenomenal, tranquilo, bien comunicado con el metro de "South Kensington", perfecto!!!

Bonjour, nous sejournons dans ce quartier au moment de noël, je recherche une salle de spectacle ou de cinéma pour le 25 décembre, car aucun transport ne fonctionne ce jour là à Londres, et si vous avez un bon pub à nous recommander.
