I didn't plan to watch a movie at the Prince Charles; I was walking through Chinatown one morning last October, when I saw the cinema's daily lineup posted outside. Not only were they screening a nonstop marathon of some of the best horror movies of the 80s and 90s, they also had a 12PM showing for Perfect Blue, one of Satoshi Kon's finest films.
My partner and I put aside our afternoon plans to attend, and I'm thrilled we did. We got to see a great movie at an excellent venue that isn't afraid to screen cult favorites over modern blockbusters. I will be looking for every excuse to return to the Charles next time I have an open schedule in London.

Went for the first time to see LOTR's extended film marathon. Tickets were great price. The cinema was adorable! Like they used to be. Traditional. All the staff we met were lovely. Very friendly. Drinks were a good price. Will definately go again now we tried it. They have such a good selection of films. Only thing is they need vegan sweets.

Murder She Solved is just a great night out, fun and interactive. Looking forward to the next event. The cinema is a great old school venue with friendly staff.

I love this cinema. The people here LOVE movies. Their movie marathons are a lot of fun, they host special events, and the last one we went to was Sing Along Muppets Christmas Carol. Will be making this an annual trip, the audience was full and fantastic, quoting and singing along. The atmosphere was fantastic and the staff were fully involved and encouraging the festive cheer. Long live the Prince Charles cinema!

Really love this cinema a little gem, cheap considering its location being so central. I love the fact it screens old classic films and it has movie night marathons based on various sequal/musical/horror etc themes . Also a bar at the back, fun vibe. Not to be missed!

I have been here twice, and unfortunately both times the experience was ruined by a terrible disrespectful audience. I shared the same problems as another reviewer when I went to see Nosferatu with a live orchestra: the movie was completely ruined by people laughing all the way through: even the end when it got more serious (as I know the beginning of the film was comedic).
I decided to write that off as a weird experience and booked tickets to see Halloween (1978) on Halloween night 2023. I was really excited for that one, did not think I'd have the same problems. I for sure expected audience interaction, but in a way that respects the movie and heightens the appreciation for it. However that was not the case, and Halloween was also completely ruined in exactly the same way as Nosferatu: very very disrespectful audience who didn't take the movie seriously at all, completely ruined all the suspense and atmosphere: even laughing throughout the whole final act which has absolutely zero jokes!!! Ruined the movie for me and many others I'm sure. It's a real shame because I can't fault the venue itself; the services offered are all fine and the range of movies shown is really broad: definitely does its job as a unique cinema to see classic films.
Just a real shame that on both occasions the audience behaved in this way: quite surprised really as I thought this kind of cinema would attract fans of the movies who would want to enjoy them etc. Really can't stress how both viewings the movie was completely ruined for me and those I went with. So if you are the kind of person who likes a quiet cinema to take a movie seriously, I would strongly recommend you think twice before booking tickets here. Perhaps the cinema could look into ways to discourage this kind of behaviour for certain films.
Sorry I couldn't be more positive but that's just how it went. From now on I will be avoiding seeing any kind of serious/suspenseful movie here.

London Cinema Trip - 20-10-23
Been looking forward to this for months after my booking, I thought the staff would be more chatty but nope, waited downstairs and went in, the downstairs theatre for 'Christine' was impressive, watched the film but a woman a few rows behind me kept laughing at everything and commenting on so much, did get annoying, the second film later 'The Hills Have Eyes' (1977) was upstairs and a much smaller theatre with a screen that was way to low, a couple sat in front of me and there heads kept blocking the view of the screen!!! Plus If you seat on the Isle seats the screen is a terrible angle, once again people kept laughing again so not the film serious film fans I expected

I've been going to the Prince Charles cinema for over 10 years now and it's my favorite cinema. I don't live in London, but won't hesitate to travel if they're showing something I want to see. I love to see the 35mm and 70mm screenings, as well as the marathons. It's always a fun place to hang out with friends too. You'll always end up meeting like-minded people at most of the screenings, which you won't get anywhere else.

Cinema specialising in cult, old, and cutting edge films. Went to take my film enthusiast teen to see Chungking Express and fallen angels double bill. Tickets are expensive, but there is a membership that would be worth it if you live in London.

It had been so long since my husband and I been to a movie. At home (Oregon and New York) the movie theaters are empty. This theater was almost completely full, and we loved seeing so many people getting out post-Covid. The film was a terrific Scorsese one from 1986 that neither of us had seen. And I don't recall having to sit thru 30 minutes of previews of other movies. It was very easy to book our tickets ahead, choose our seats, and find our seats. Since we had been walking around all day sightseeing, it was wonderful to just sit. And the theater is in a very busy part of London, so just seeing everyone out having fun was great.

I'm sorry, Liv, I don't really know, to be honest. Only thing I can suggest is googling some images to get a feel for the layout (might even be luck enough to find pictures with children in). Good luck.

Yes. Young people actively encouraged to see film and theatre now. Worth asking if there are any ticket deals. Unless they can get tickets through their mobile phone provider. Easy to check the film certificates.
Might be worth them taking drinks and snacks along in a backpack

A question about the seating, where is best place to sit? It looks like the ceiling is low so if you sit at the back that might be a problem? And the seats look high so would there be people's heads in the way in front? Especially for a shorter person?
