Went to an open garden afternoon and paid £5. Gardens in a terrible state. Over grown and full of weeds. Has the structure but can’t have had any gardeners for a couple of years. Had someone cutting the grass. Must have looked amazing in the past. I would be too embarrassed to let people see it in this state

Dear James,
Thank you for taking the time to visit Lambeth Palace and for sharing your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience of our gardens did not meet your expectations on this occasion.
The gardens at Lambeth Palace have a rich history and play an important role as a quiet sanctuary within London. Like many historic gardens, they require constant care and attention. Our woodland glade garden is also a sanctuary for all different types of wildlife, and we encourage wilding in areas to support that biodiversity. In this way, some areas may not always appear as well-kept as one may expect in an entirely formal garden.
Please be assured that our gardening team are constantly working on keeping the gardens in the best possible state whilst also encouraging wildlife. We value your input, as it helps us improve the experience for all visitors.
We hope you will visit again in the future to see how we continue to nurture and restore this special space.
Thank you again for your feedback

Visiting the garden on one of the open days, we also booked a visit to the library.
I'll split the visit into two, starting with the library.
We first visited the reading room, which is, well, a reading room, nothing more. Next we visited the conservation workshops, this was fine; but would have been better if greater detail had been covered, say on one of the projects in hand, rather than a very general introduction. The best bit, by far for us, was the chance to see some of the very old books they have in their collection, and also listen to an excellent explanation of their history and importance.
The garden was very disappointing. Without suggesting it should be pristine, it was all but totally overgrown, weeds everywhere, I would sum it up by saying if that if they applied to the National Gardens Scheme, we feel they would be rejected !!
(Lambeth Palace is itself shut to the public because of the major restoration scheme on going – we were told it reopens early next year , and is very well worth visiting for the tour).

We had a visit to the gardens as part of the National Garden Scheme. The gardens are surprisingly extensive and laid out with a large lawn and beds. There is some road and train noise. Pleasant but not particularly remarkable. There was a band and drinks available. No access to the buildings. An opportunity to see inside the palace gates so worthwhile.

The exhibition 'A Declaration of Our Hopes for the Future was a considered gesture to provide the context of Christianity in modern Britain through the coronation of King Charles in May 2023 as well as blending in past correspondence between monarchs whose contributions had been documented across the decades as historical keepsakes.
Being surrounded by such unique ephemeron meant that responsibilities have fallen on archivists curators, writers to articulate the narratives of the British monarchy renewing itself as one of regality and luck. Forbearance has been a charm bequeathed to the fortunate souls in the treasure made by these recognisable figures in Royal history. The Royal Family thrive to exhibit British excellence at its best because the presence of them seem to be born out of a fascination with life.
Coronations continue to confirm the relevance of the British monarchy since the middle ages to the present day because their lives have been interwoven into the fabric of society that can be guaranteed by the security provided in they always exist to inhabit the Britain at its best.
The accomplishment to this exhibition has been entitled 'Cantate Domino' which translates in Latin as Music in Services (check). The items and objects have been held to transfix the time through the lesser known and almost unheard of musical pieces that range from the 11th to 20th century as musical traditions incorporated into the Church of England.
The showcased pieces were assembled to present four main thematic concerns which consisted of Hymns, Songs of the Church, Music in Services, Preserved by Chance and Teaching Music.
The strongest aspect of the exhibition focused on making these highly respected objects accessible to the public and for that main reason the Crown and the people do not seem so detached from the varied realities they hold.
The part entitled 'John Newton and Amazing Grace' emboldened the historiography and historicism preservation should be something to be remembered as well as a way to learn not to teach people to behave in such brutally ways. New Year's Day of 1773 had been the first time Amazing Grace' had been performed and Newton used the sermon from that day to provide a basis for the hymn. The direct inspiration came as a belief that anything negative can be turned into a positive understanding of humankind.
In retrospect the exhibition focused on thinking and making time held by others not seem so inaccessible to most individuals regardless of race, gender, class etc. Each item was concentrated to evoke new feelings about things that had been documented and witnessed in the past and present. This sense of awareness encourage a wider feel for emotional inclusion for what had been experienced as national events since the 11th to 20th century in the United Kingdom.

On my walk between the two Tate museums, I felt it appropriate to see the formal residence of the leader of the Anglican (Episcopalian) Church, the Archbishop of Canterbury. There was a museum but I did not go in. I just enjoyed from the exterior.

We saw this as we whizzed by on our hop on hop off bus tour. Tudor style, only the gardens are open, it's the residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

We walked past here to enjoy a riverside walk in New Year’s Day. We saw lots of the palace and the gardens from the riverside. It was really interesting to see the residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

We booked the Old Study for a staff lunch. Arranging this was straightforward as the staff were very helpful in the booking process. That warmth and helpfulness continued even as we had to make last minute changes. On the day, we were greeted with happiness and treated as if we were royalty! The food was incredible. The staff were happy. The presentation was very good. If you fancy a treat at the heart of London - do make a booking here.
