Crystal Palace park and the Triangle A great park to walk through at the top is the remains of the old Crystal Palace which comes out onto the triangle which has some great Antiaue Shops as well as great restaurants, Pubs, Cafes and Bars. A cute little Ice cream Parlour that also has a sweet counter great for the children. Hayes Lane has a good Vintage market on the weekends. A couple of Art Gallery’s. There is somthing for everyone around here.

Crystal Palace Park is a 200 acre park in South East London. It is a huge expanse and ideal for long walks. There are sculptures, walking trails, a lake and an open air concert as wel as a maze.
Been several times in the past and on our latest visit it was an overcast day and was fairly busy. We had a leisurely couple of hours wandering around.
There are chargeable car parks and Crystal Palace bus station is at the south western part of the park, the raikway station is near the southern entrance making it very accessible

Highlights include the Dinosaur Court—those quirky, old-fashioned sculptures might not be scientifically accurate, but that just adds to their charm.
The park itself is huge, with lots of open space to relax or have a picnic. I loved wandering around the lake and exploring the woodland trails. There’s even a maze, which was a nice little challenge.

This park has been run into the ground by the new management (crystal palace park trust) .In the summer large areas are fenced off and closed to the public for private events,to raise money for the new "charity" . The park is rundown as the money raised by the charity is not being reinvested into the park ..If you are not a local, carpark fees have now been added to all carparks .. Footpaths are over run by cycling and park run events at weekends..Poor upkeep, dinosaurs not visible over overgrown shrubs and trees ..Terrible management..

Enjoyed a lovely stroll around the park with family. Briefly explored the lake that is surrounded by dinosaurs as they were believed to appear when produced - not that accurate. Plenty of space to stop and sit and watch the world go by. Visited the sight of the former Crystal Palace, which looks slightly run down though easy to visually imagine what the Palace looked like. Plenty of paths to follow and explore through woods and well maintained fields. Worth a visit.

I took my two grandchildren to Crystal Palace Park in the expectation of enjoying a varied and active day out with the opportunity for them to learn a little local history. Much buoyed by the Internet reviews and pictures, the reality proved a considerable disappointment. My lasting impression is that this historic site has been left to go to seed. The vital remains of the old Crystal Palace are, apart from the two sphinxes, weed strewn and derelict, without identification or description. The actual site of the Palace itself seems to have become home for a nondescript office block. I found this both surprising and unacceptable for a Grade II Listed site.
As to the Park itself, Joseph Paxton’s imposing memorial surveys a wilderness punctuated by car parks and something described as a Sports Centre, the former ornamental gardens having been long lost to history. For the newcomer leaving the Low Level station, the only directional signage shows the site of the park in its wider geographic setting but without any precise indication of facilities within the Park – hence we found ourselves walking blindly for what seemed miles before finally stumbling across the children’s playground and café. More decent directional signage within the Park is urgently required, together with more information displays describing the Park’s history and that of the Palace itself.
The Children’s playground is a disgrace – and far from the “well-maintained and equipped” facility advertised. Looking as if first created in the 1970s and abandoned ever since, it offers nothing like the standard, range or condition of play equipment that is now commonplace in nearly all local authority public playgrounds. I suggest that this facility should be made a priority for complete replacement with an upgraded and expanded range of modern play equipment.
Owing to the inadequate signage, we never did find the Farm or the Dinosaurs – and the Maze was entirely barricaded off behind hideous hoardings that can only be described as a “blot on the landscape”.
The only two positives from our visit were the small café (which, even so, was rather over-priced) and the boating lake, on which the two grandchildren and I spent an eventful – if exhausting – hour attempting to navigate the pedalos. All great fun – and the one feature of the Park that we really enjoyed.
Frankly, Crystal Palace Park – a Grade II Listed Park - is far from being as advertised, and gives the appearance of having been abandoned by the Local Authority that purports to be responsible for it. Much of the newer building now sited within the Park is entirely out-of-keeping with its period character; its vital history is almost entirely ignored. Information displays are absent; directional signage is inadequate. Walkways are largely unkempt. A serious injection of capital investment designed to intelligently and sympathetically restore the whole Park and highlight its historic past is obviously required, while updating to modern standards those facilities which presently exist. At present – disappointing and, in heritage terms, depressing.

There is so much to see in Crystal Palace Park. The history of the area is so interesting. When you are walking around the old ruins you can just imagine the well dressed people going these on day trips in their fancy garb.
Highlights include; The Dinosaurs, the boating lake, the Farm Park, The Sports Centre, Museum, Flower Gardens, Crystal Palace Subway, The Bowl, The fishing lake, the maze, skate park, graffiti wall, play park, information centre and the amazing Brown & Green cafe, ( the BRAT is so yummy!) the Italian Terraces and the duck pond.
There is something for everyone in the park and it’s so easy to get to. Crystal Palace station is pretty much in the park!

Large large with a great array of options for a stroll. Lots to do:
- A maze
- Pedalo lake
- Lakes for ducks
- Skatepark
- The dinosaurs
- Historical palace remnants (being upgraded soon)
- Bob Marley tribute
- Local market (on a Sunday)
- The cafe
It is also a well maintained park with wardens and rangers unlike parks in neighbouring Boroughs.

Large and pleasant south London Park. The most interesting area to explore is in the South Eastern part - entry on Crystal Palace Park Road/ Thicket Road. Arranged around a series of interconnected lakes is one of the first every dinosaur parks - opened in 1853! Most of the dinosaurs are still there, although many are in urgent need of repair. After many false starts, hopefully that work will start soon. The dinosaurs reflect what Victorians new about them and the level of scientific knowledge at the time. The dinosaurs at Crystal Place pre-dates the discovery of some iconic species like T Rex and Stegosaurus by decades. Some of the information boards contrast this with what we know now, often showing more agile creatures than the Victorians imagined.
You can easily spend an hour strolling around the lakes. It is also a good place to watch birds, and without any effort managed to see herons, shovlers, tufted ducks, cormorants, grebe, and gadwall. There are attractive trees, including many old willows and alder.
This is also where the cafe is - Brown and Green. They have a pleasant cafe menu with plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices for £8-10. There is lots of outdoor and quite a bit of indoor seating. The public toilets were closed on our visit, but there are facilities available at the cafe, which is open daily.
If you follow the main avenue of trees towards the sports centre, you come to an intriguing memorial Crystal Palace was used as a training ground for the Royal Navy, and was referred to as H.M.S. Victory VI. The bell is a reminder of those times. This is also where the modern play area is, which has a dinosaur theme.

Planning a walk for a U3A group I had a lovely stroll around the park. The maps are not too bad but there are lots of things which don't have information about them. The heritage trail looks interesting but there is nowhere to pick up a leaflet.
I was interested in when the subway would reopen so emailed the new trust, no response after several weeks.
The information centre was closed (mid week) and the toilets were being refurbished, again an email asking when they would be open, has not been responded to.
This really has the potential to be a great location, just needs a bit of attention to detail.
