I haven’t been to this bar in years but it has the same welcoming atmosphere as before thankfully! I attended with my partner. I don’t drink anymore but he does. We chatted to a little Irish barmaid who gave us lots of options to choose from alcohol free options as well. I had a Shirley temple and my partner had a Rainbow Pilsner which is great because she said a portion of the proceeds go to stonewall housing! Attended on a Saturday night which was busy but not too packed. Will be returning

Been a few times. Kuba, Is always so friendly and always greets us with a massive smile. Will always choose Compton’s over any other bar in Soho

Disappointing Anniversary Experience Due to Unprofessional Management
My partner and I revisited Compton's Bar to celebrate our 23rd anniversary, as we met 23 years ago upstairs at Compton's. We bought a bottle of Veuve Clicquot to mark our milestone and decided to sit upstairs at the same table where we first met. We had a lovely time for about 90 minutes until we were rudely interrupted by a woman claiming to be the manager.
Her approach was unprofessional at best. We were told we couldn't sit upstairs because the upstairs bar was still closed, even though there were no signs indicating this. When we explained our special reason for sitting upstairs, she was dismissive and unwilling to listen. Her insistence that we leave, despite us having already been there for almost two hours, was very frustrating.
The manager's excuses about potential wine theft and her lack of trust because "it's Soho" were directed at us in an accusatory manner. This small-minded attitude and lack of training in politeness were evident. Her behavior lacked class and empathy, which is particularly disappointing in a gay establishment where one might expect more understanding and professionalism.
I would suggest that Compton's Bar reconsider the suitability of this manager for their establishment. A manager should exhibit discretion, direction, and above all, respect for their guests. This experience left a sour taste on what should have been a joyous occasion.

Hi there Ismail, and thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. After going through the CCTV, I can in fact see that you were sitting in the closed upstairs bar for only 47mins before our manager approached you and kindly informed that the area you were seated in was currently closed. I can also confirm that, despite your momentous occasion, you did not make any reservation for you and your party. You and your party chose to ignore the lack of a server behind the bar, the lack of other customers, and the ongoing free HIV testing that we host in the privacy of our closed upstairs bar quite regularly.
That you felt so unfairly treated being asked to leave a section of the bar not yet open to the public is a huge regret of ours. While all of our managers would have celebrated the joyous occasion of 23 years of love, that does not grant you or your partner access to any part of the venue as you see fit. I hope this helps clear things up for you and that we might see and your companions for future anniversaries, within permissible parts of the bar. And, Happy Pride!

I’ve never known a more chaotic bar service. Watching the bar staff, they go working in what ever end of the bar they wish, when they wish. When it’s busy, this makes it hard to know who comes to the bar when. You could be stood there for hours!

This bar is/was a gay icon with friendly competent staff. Now you're lucky to get a drink as the staff prefer to chat at the end of the bar. As poor as they are the fault must lie with the management as there is no guidance, direction or oversight. I've been a customer for 25 years and it's changed from being a thriving bar during the week and packed at the week end to being empty during the week and somewhat busy at the week end until the dreadful service drives people away. Who's at fault? The staff up to a point. The manager definitely. Stonegate for not pulling the manager up?

Very rude rasict barman. We paid for the drinks and they left the drink on the sorbet side of the bar and on investigation they saw us on camera we paid but could not see who took the drinks the bar man told us to F off and called us get out you Asians.

Hi Najam M, we are sorry to hear that your experience in Comptons was anything less than satisfactory. Customer welfare is our top priority, so drinks that are left unattended for long periods of time are generally cleared from tables or the bar. We understand that you brought this issue to our attention and that they were in the process of looking into it for you when you became increasingly aggressive. Whilst we appreciate that a situation like this can be frustrating, we do not tolerate guests throwing the contents of their glass at our team members under any circumstances.
Going forward, should you insist on leaving your drinks unattended for long periods of time, I would recommended requesting a "stop topp" from behind the bar to protect your drinks and indicate to staff that they are still in consumption.

Visited Thursday afternoon around 13.15 waited at the bar for the bar person to get off his phone and asked for the 0% alcohol and was offered Heineken or Brew Dog I chose Brewdog and it should come with a financial heath warning. £6.10 for a bottle is a absolutely disgusting price you should be ashamed of yourselves even worse I had to ask for a glass anyone would have thought I’d ruined the bar persons day the only thing it could have ruined was my lips as it was filthy and chipped. I suggest you look at your prices and invest in a new glass washer.

My friends and I have been going to Compton several times a year for about thirty years. It was extremely disappointing - and ultimately distressing - to be denied entry by an over-zealous, straight, doorman from overseas and of a different cultural background last night. He deemed one of us to be too drunk to enter. Genuinely my friend had had two pints and wasn't drunk. Absolutely, his behaviour was normal and he posed no threat. But the doorman's word was final. The fact that we were a group of gay men who've been customers for decades made no difference. We were shut out of one of our sacred spaces in what felt like a homophonic insult. Even if my friend had been a little drunk - which he wasn't - since when did it become a crime to pub-crawl around Soho, getting tipsy in the process? The manager came to the door but was obnoxious and flippant and 100% supported the straight doorman. No wonder gay venues are closing when they treat loyal, gay customers with such disdain, contempt and disrespect. For years we've fought for acceptance, only to be abused by the doorman and manager of a gay institution. This morning I feel really belittled, saddened, depressed and disrespected. I'm of an age when I can remember these feelings from the bad old days of the homophobic days of the 1980s. Shame on Comptoms.

Biptydollar, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am very regretful to hear that your experience with us was less than satisfactory. However, I am also struggling to see the relevance of the country of origin of our security team in being able to discern sober from intoxicated. The same goes for your repeated assumptions that their and sexuality or yours has anything to do with this situation.
At Comptons safety is one of our top priorities and we have a duty of care to all of our customers. One of the roles of our doorstaff is to quickly assess the intoxication of guests as they approach the venue and to decide then and there if their entry poses a risk to themselves, other guests or our staff. While you are correct that it is not a crime to pub-crawl around Soho, it would be a crime for us to serve you or members of your party if you are intoxicated. This contradicts our duty of care to you should anything happen as a result of your intoxication.

The staff were incredibly welcoming, making us feel right at home despite the bustling environment. Their attentiveness and friendly demeanor added a personal touch to our visit, making us feel valued and well taken care of.

Do you have disabled access?
Do you allow well behaved dogs?
Do you have free wifi?

Hi there.
I am a customer of Compton's so I'll answer as much as I know...
-They are open every day from about midday until late.
-Disabled access is OK to the ground floor but not upstairs.
-I've never seen dogs in there.
-There is no free wifi that I know of.
-I've paid recently with credit/debit/contactless.
-There is some parking outside in Old Compton Street. I never drive to Central London so I don't know what the restrictions are.
-There is no happy hour that I know of.
