Just wanted to say the 9am Saturday Caving Experience was excellent!
Our guide was superb! Very experienced, knowledgeable and patient…this guy is ace!

My family and I went to the Yorkshire Dales for a week holiday. We live just outside the Dales and so not a huge trip but a lovely change all the same. Asking the kids what they wanted to do received the answer 'adventure!'. We have always been active and been happy to push the children outside their comfort zone and I have wanted to go caving for years so we contacted Yorkshire Dales Guides via their online form.
Mike got back to me really quickly asking for some detail of what we would like to do and any thoughts as to which caves we wanted to visit. Not knowing what there was on offer I explained that we wanted an adventure, wanted some vertical and some horizontal caving experiences and left it to him. Mike was attentive on email, replied quickly, was reassuring that they could cater for our needs and gave perfect instructions for location to meet and what to bring.
We arrived at their bunkhouse premises and found it to be well equipped with climbing gear of all sizes, harnesses which showed little sign of wear, under-suits that were clean and warm, and over-suits to fit us all. At the bunkhouse, we met our guide John. John is the kind of guide that I wanted. Clearly very experienced and knowledgeable. Calm but with good humour. Confident but understated and someone who has great stories to tell but doesn't brag or push them in your face. I instantly liked him! I have been a technical diver for a number of years and always found the people with John's quiet understated attitude to be far more competent than those who try to show off. This character is what I would expect of a cave explorer! Quite and inwardly a little crazy! ;)
We followed John to Alum Pot and then walked up to the first cave entrance. John led us in after the initial briefing and we set off to explore the Lower Churns and Alum Pot. It was AMAZING!! John was fantastic and we all loved it.
We spent the full day exploring with John, with big caves, tight tummy crawl squeezes, abseiling, rope ladder climbs, cheese presses and climbing. There were alternative routes for most of the sections and John constantly monitored us and my kids for their enjoyment, pushing them and supporting them for times when they were not so sure, and allowing them freedom when they felt confident. Perfect guiding.
My daughter had in her head she didn't like tight spaces. After many hours of enjoying caves, John took us to rest by the exit to Wilsons cave. A water filled squeeze with approx 6" air space between the water line and the cave roof! I laughed and said maybe we should wait until next time, but our daughter had transformed from being scared of a small dry squeeze to a child who was loving the experience and wanted to try it. So she and I followed John through the cave and to the exit from the cave side. Into the water we squeezed, on tummies with heads turned to breath from the narrow air gap and through this brilliant small exit! We got soaked and scared but loved it! This was our choice to do and certainly there was not pressure (just reassurance!) from John to do it. My wife and son sat out as didn't fancy this bit.
John had been in no hurry with us all day. He was not in a rush to finish, dedicated as much or little time as we wanted to our day and appeared to love his job. He showed superb flexibility in his approach and good knowledge in SRT rope work, rigging safety lines for us so we could take a closer look down Alum Pot and managing us well as an inexperienced family. We had simply the best day out with John, who insisted on taking our gear from us at the end rather than us going back and helping him pack away. True gent dedicated to our enjoyment.
Thank you to Yorkshire Dales Guides and to John our guide for the most amazing day. We will be back as soon as we can to do some more cave exploring and I do hope we get to experience that again with John.

What a day - an absolutely unforgettable experience for our day of caving. Our guide, Sean, was so reassuring and made us feel at ease and safe the whole day. Thanks so much, we will be back!

A brilliant 'explore caving' experience led by Mark. The exploring was exciting in and of itself, but Mark's commentary on the history and geology of the caves enhanced the whole experience. Thoroughly recommended.

The guides facilitated an orienteering activity and caving trip for our company with a group of around 30 individuals. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable time, the guides gave us the right amount of help during orienteering whilst not giving away too much! They were full of fun and humour throughout the day. The caving trip was an amazing experience. The guides were encouraging and provided lots of interesting information throughout the trip. Shout out to Slug!

My two younger brothers and I were on a road trip and I had booked this adventure.
I am very nervous of right spaces but the instructor Sean made us feel very much at ease.
Kit and equipment was supplied and very adequate for the trip.
The caves were situated 5 mins drive and a 10 min walk away from the Yorkshire dale guide centre.
It started with a trek down a low cave with a couple of inches of water. After about an hour, a number of beautiful caverns and couple of drops where we were safely lowered down, we ended up in a spectacular cavern where we got a few photos in front of a cascade of water with the sun beaming behind.
On the way back we were offered the chance to do the cheese press. There was no pressure but we all decided to give it a go.
Well in 6’ and weigh 88kg and all I can say is, it was very tight and I honestly believed I would get stuck.
The instructor was great and guided me slightly left and slightly right enabling me, after 15 mins to manage to get through the 10” high 15’ long cheese press allowing me to achieve something that I always had nightmares about. No more 😁
The way out was great, through a low narrow passageway that was half filled with water and although was a challenge, had nothing on the cheese press
Thanks for a great 4 hr plus of caving/pot holing

We are a family of 5 (2 x 8 year olds and a 10 year old) who went with Steph on the explore caving trip. It was absolutely brilliant! Steph is amazing with the children and highly experienced and knowledge. She created a real sense of adventure and we felt totally safe. We learned a lot about the geography and geology of the area and it was really enjoyable. 100% recommend.

Amazing team, support and team building activity! We were staying at HighTren House in Malham to develop our leadership team and needed an event that the team could draw on their strengths and capabilities alongside learning about each other. The Yorkshire Dales Guides stepped right up to the challenge and offered an afternoon of mountain rescue with all of the equipment, comms gear and training needed to successfully rescue 2 dummy casualties from the hills. Not only did the event completely hit the mark in terms of what we were trying to achieve, the team were completely buzzing and engaged in the experience and I have a feeling will be talking about this for a very very long time! I highly recommend the YD Guides for an experience that you rarely find elsewhere, thankyou!

Fantastic mornings climbing expertly led by our guide Sean who tailored our session for our specific abilities/needs.
